Post by: jamieg45 on September 08, 2013, 11:12:10 AM
I was wondering who all is gonna come up to silver lake that weekend, I have been checking on cabins for the weekend and rooms at silver sands resort. So we all can be close to marc and the other guys that are at his place. I would like to get a # of who all is coming so we all can get things set in stone. I know I am for sure, zcarlson +1 maybe, Emullen mite be flying in and riding one of my R's, Eric 05450r is gonna try + family, duece hopefully, chad Quinn, fear250r and rough250r also. Who else wants to chime in, here is my cell 269-362-2458 contact me and let me know and how many rooms we will need. I would say to stay at the state park or yogi, but I don't want to walk that far either way to and the resort rooms are rife next to Marc's place. His place just isn't big enough to acomadate us all and my trailer is very big too. So lets see how many .org fellas we can get and have a nice big R/Hybrid weekend fellas.

If all vets there early enough, we just need to get in line by 6:30pm if its still the same. I'm not sure its been 2yrs since I've been up there, since I started building the walsh to. So the time for the line to get vouchers could be different now.

[h=4]ORV VOUCHER SYSTEM[/h]The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) developed a voucher system as a tool to manage the long lines of Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) users waiting to enter Silver Lake State Park on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.
There are two types of vouchers: Dune Ready Vouchers and Parking Lot Vouchers. Dune Ready Vehicles are those that enter the Silver Lake State Park ORV Area from public highways and go straight into the sand dune off-road area without the need for the parking lot/ staging area. Parking Lot Vouchers are for those who require a staging or parking area for their tow vehicle and/or trailer. Both types of vouchers are free to park visitors and are distributed from the Off-Road Vehicle Voucher Center located at the corner of Fox and Ridge Roads, about 1/4 mile east of the ORV Area entrance. The purpose of the voucher is, simply, to "hold the ORV users place in line", while staggering arrival times to avoid excessive lines.
THE VOUCHER SYSTEM SEASON:
Vouchers will be handed out starting mid-May, at 12 noon on Friday, two weeks prior to the Memorial Day weekend and then continuously through the summer on weekends/holidays until the Sunday following Labor Day weekend.
VOUCHER DISTRIBUTION TIMES:
The voucher distribution point on Fox Road will open at 12 noon on Fridays for Dune Ready Vouchers and at 9 p.m. for Parking Lot Vouchers. The Voucher Center will be open as traffic and use require until at least 11 p.m. Fridays and re-open at 7 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. You may also purchase your State Park and ORV permits at the same location, which will help speed up entry into the ORV Area.
VOUCHER TIME PERIODS:
Parking Lot Vouchers will be for two periods: 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. or 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Parking Lot Stand-by Vouchers will be distributed once parking spaces for those periods are exhausted. There are five Dune Ready Voucher periods: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. No Dune Ready Vouchers are required after 7 p.m. Dune Ready Vouchers for both Saturdays and Sundays, and/or the Holidays will be given out at the same time. In order to give people the opportunity for the limited parking spaces, Parking Lot Vouchers will be available at 9 p.m. the day before they are to be used.
Once the days Parking Lot Vouchers are all given out, visitors may choose to be placed on the Parking Lot Stand-by Voucher list for the following day. There may be times when Parking Lot Vouchers will be required, but Dune Ready Vouchers are not, such as on some Holiday weekends.
LATE ARRIVALS:
Dune Ready Voucher holders that arrive late for their entry time frame will need to secure a new voucher for a later time period during the day. Parking Lot Voucher holders are guaranteed entry for either the 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. or the 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. time frame, but not both. If you arrive after your voucher entry time frame, you will need to secure a Parking Lot Stand-by Voucher for later in the day. No parking lot spaces will be guaranteed after 9 a.m. nor can space be held for someone to arrive later. Persons may not use their validated/punched Parking Lot Voucher to trailer-in additional or new off-road vehicles after they originally gain entry at the ORV Area Entrance Gate unless prior arrangements are made with Park Officials and noted on the validated Voucher.
LEAVING AND RE-ENTERING THE STATE PARK:
Once you have entered the park, you may stay as long as you like until the normal closing time. The vouchers only specify the arrival time. Dune Ready and Parking Lot Voucher holders that leave the sand dunes and/or the State Park will be required to go to the end of the waiting line to re-enter. Those attempting to "cut" in ahead of other visitors waiting to enter will be turned away. Vehicles leaving the parking lot will not be guaranteed space upon returning. Be sure your voucher slip is validated (HOLE-TYPE PUNCHED) when you arrive at the ORV Area Entrance Gate for the first time, on any particular day.
THE NUMBER OF VOUCHERS THAT ARE GIVEN OUT EACH DAY:
Over two thousand Dune Ready Vouchers are distributed each day or between 300 and 500 per two-hour time frame. The number of available spaces in the lot controls the number of Parking Lot Vouchers. Inclement weather, no-shows, early or unplanned departures, space sharing, and similar actions allow for additional room on occasion. Parking Lot Stand-by Vouchers are used for these unexpected events.
PICKING UP A VOUCHER FOR SOMEONE ELSE:
Two Dune Ready Vouchers or one Parking Lot Voucher can be obtained by an individual adult park visitor. These voucher slips will require the addition of the user's name and main vehicle license number, in ink, prior to validation. The person picking up the Vouchers will need to know the names, license plate numbers and the intended time frame for entry. The voucher forms must be completed, in ink, prior to embossed or stamped validation at the time of application at the Voucher Center Office. Voucher slips will again be validated with a distinctive hole-type punch upon arrival at the ORV Area Entrance Gate. This hole-type punch will be required if re-entry is requested later during the day.
VOUCHER CENTER PARKING LOT:
The Voucher Center Parking Lot will be used for Parking Lot Stand-by Voucher stacking or cueing line purposes during regular business hours. There will still be a wait with a Parking Lot Stand-by Voucher, since there is no guarantee when parking spaces may occur, but the visitor will be better able to make the best use of their time. Dune Ready Vehicles will need to check back during the day for the possibility of entry prior to 7 p.m. Owners of vehicles in the Voucher Center Parking Lot must be in attendance, trailers or extra vehicles may not be stored or parked there, and there is no overnight parking allowed. The Voucher Center Parking Lot is used as a landing zone for emergency medical helicopters and may need to be cleared within minutes, at any time.
ORV AREA PARKING LOT:
Parking lot spaces are approximately 12 feet x 60 feet in size. Park visitors use of side awnings on trailers, motorhomes, etc., takes up space that others may be waiting to use. No side awnings are allowed on voucher days. Please make efficient use of the limited space and keep your vehicles and gear within your parking spot.
USE OF TRAILERS IN THE ORV AREA AND ORV PARKING LOT:
Trailers are not allowed into the ORV Area beyond the Safety Check Station. Check with Park Rangers regarding use of trailers to remove disabled vehicles or for emergency situations. Within the ORV Parking Lot, semi trailers with tractor/trucks that are over 60 feet in length, will need to unhook trailers and use a small portion of the adjacent space on weekends and busy days. The spaces on the ends of the parking-bays afford this opportunity and semi users are encouraged to use these spaces in which to park their tractor/truck. After 9 a.m. on voucher days, no vehicles may be trailered past the ORV Area Entrance Gate unless prior arrangements are made with Park Officials and noted on the validated Voucher.

[h=3]VEHICLE TOWING OUTSIDE THE STATE PARK[/h]The Michigan Motor Vehicle Code and Michigan Compiled Laws state that: vehicles may only be towed using a ridged towing bar that includes safety chains - MCL 257.721 (3); a vehicle operator may tow only one vehicle or trailer at any time - MCL 257.721(5); vehicle operators must have the proper operator's or chauffeur's license - MCL 257.301(1); and in some cases reflectors or stop light are required on the towed trailer or vehicle - MCL 257.688(1)(f).
These rules apply to all Oceana County and State of Michigan roadways and are in effect inside the State Park until one passes the main entrance/fee collection booth.
For additional details please contact the Michigan State Police - Hart Post or the Oceana County Sheriff's Office - Hart , Michigan.

[h=3]DRIVER AND/OR RIDER TIPS[/h]There are a number of other considerations each vehicle operator should be aware of and keep in mind while enjoying the dunes:

Top of Page (http://trx250r.org/#top)
[h=3]EXHAUST SYSTEM RULES AND TESTING[/h]
Vehicle muffler noise and the use of spark arresters has been a matter of concern regarding the operation of Off-Road Vehicles (ORV) for many years. The State of Michigan ?s ORV Law has required them since 1975. At Silver Lake State Park a static or stationary test for this equipment is used on all types of vehicles. Noise levels will be checked at a twenty-inch distance from the exhaust pipe at half the vehicle's rated revolutions per minute (RPM) or as detailed in the automotive specifications SAE J1169, March 92 or SAE J1287, June 86. The maximum noise level permitted under these testing conditions will be 94 dBa which is the current limit set by the Off-Road Recreation Vehicles Act of Part 811 of 1994 PA 451 (MCL 324.811). All vehicles are required to have a muffler and spark arrester containing baffles meeting established United States Forest Service (USFS) specifications.
Generally speaking, the guidelines for testing at "half the rate RPM" will be based on some vehicle similarities. In most cases, full-sized vehicles with "V" configured engines will be tested at 2,500 RPM and all others at 2,000 RPM, which was a method developed and used while testing these vehicles at Silver Lake in 1997. Diesel powered, full-sized vehicles are tested at 1,500 RPM. Most reverse flow mufflers will meet the spark arrester requirements, as will most turbochargers. However, straight-through mufflers, such as glass-pack designs without baffles and mechanically driven superchargers, do not qualify as adequate spark arresters.
Motorcycles and ATVs will be tested like the full-sized vehicles by placing a sound meter at a twenty inch distance from the muffler exhaust pipe. In most cases, 80 cc engines will be tested at 6,000 RPM, 125 cc at 5,000 RPM, 250 cc at 4,000 RPM and 500 + cc at 3,000 - 3,500 RPM. Annually, the Motorcycle Industry Council produces a manual detailing the standards ATVs and motorcycles must meet. A muffler that meets the Environmental Acoustic Reduction (E.A.R.) standards may be considered as a viable solution for motorcycles. Many ATV and motorcycle mufflers are stamped as being USFS approved and will meet Silver Lake State Park standards, if they have not been altered. Those vehicles that have been manufactured for "closed track" use only, such as many motocross or "dirt-bike" motorcycles and competition style ATVs, will most likely not meet the requirements. This is also often true where after market installations have altered the original exhaust system in attempts to gain additional horsepower.
Testing for compliance with these regulations will be done in a random fashion either within the ORV Area Parking Lot, at the base of the ORV Area entrance ramp roadway by the Safety Check Station, or within the ORV Area sand dune complex itself. Park Rangers or other Law Enforcement Officials may insert a plastic rod into the vehicle's exhaust pipe to determine whether there is a spark arrester or baffle present. Most often home-made baffling devices, such as steel wool or metal door screen material, do not meet the USFS requirements

Basicly for the Saturday parking lot voucher you need to get your voucher at 9:00pm on friday when they start handing them out, if its going to be a busy weekend then we should put a vehicle or 2 in line at least a few hours before 9:00PM if not earlier if we can. 6:30AM friday is the earliest that you can put a vehicle in line for a voucher. but if you get a vehicle in line by 5:00 PM on a non holiday weekend then you almost never have to many vehicles ahead of you.
Allot of people come up friday after work so by 6-7pm the line starts getting longer.
We will be OK since its a non holiday weekend
If you can drive in the dunes with your quad in the back of your 4 wheel drive truck you have no worries at all, the trailer guys are the ones that will have to jump thru some hoops

You will need a spark arrestor on your quad, and factory exhaust is good for your vehicle, the only items you will need to purchase is a flag if you don't have one thats tall enough to touch there hight bar, a state park sticker and a orb sticker for Michigan.

Well the last 2-3 years they have not been testing sound levels, so that should not be a issue.

Biggest thing just make sure you have a spark arrestor and you will not have any issues.

The stickers for you quad are about 30.00 if you drive your truck into the dunes (not the parking lot) then its a little bit more about 40-45.00

You will need a rectangle flag on a 10 foot pole, those are probably 20.00 if you need one at places everywhere in silverlake.

Parking Lot Vouchers are for those who require a staging or parking area for their tow vehicles and/or trailers. Both types of vouchers are free to park visitors and are distributed from the Off-Road Vehicle Voucher Center located at the corner of Fox and Ridge Roads, to the east of the ORV entrance gate. The purpose of the voucher is simply to hold the ORV user's place in line, while staggering arrival times to avoid excessive lines.

Q: When will the Voucher System go into effect this year?

A:  Vouchers will be handed out starting mid-May, at noon on Friday, two weeks prior to the Memorial Day weekend and will be continuously distributed through the summer on weekends and holidays until the Sunday following Labor Day.

Q: Where will I get my voucher?

A: They are obtained at the Off-Road Vehicle Voucher Center on Fox Road located about ¼ mile east of the ORV Area entrance. You may also purchase your State Park and ORV permits at the same location, which will continue to help speed up entry into the ORV Area.

Q: How soon on Friday can I get my voucher?

A: The voucher distribution point on Fox Road will open at 12 noon on Fridays for Dune Ready Vouchers and at 9 p.m. for Parking Lot Vouchers. The Voucher Center will remain open until at least 11 p.m. and re-open at 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and holidays. To reduce traffic congestion as much as possible, traffic should follow the ORV Voucher Center directional signage, posted throughout the community.

Q: What are the various voucher time periods?

Parking Lot Vouchers will be from 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. or 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. only. Stand-by Parking Lot Vouchers will be distributed once parking spaces for those periods are exhausted. There will be five Dune Ready Voucher periods: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., 3 p.m. – 5 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Arrivals after 7 p.m. may not require a voucher.

Q: What if I arrive after the time my voucher says? Am I allowed to enter?
A: No, late arrivals with Dune Ready Vouchers will need to secure a new voucher for a later time period during the day. Parking Lot Vouchers will guarantee entry for either the 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. or the 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. period, but not both. If you arrive after your voucher time period, you will need to secure a Stand-by Voucher for later in the day. No parking lot spaces will be guaranteed after 9 a.m.

Q. What happens if I want to leave the park after entering?

A: Once you have entered the park, you can stay as long as you like until the normal closing time. The vouchers only specify the arrival time. Dune Ready vehicles that leave the sand dunes and the State Park will be required to go to the end of the line when re-entering. Vehicles leaving the parking lot will not be guaranteed space when returning. Those attempting to “cut” in ahead of other visitors waiting in line, will be turned away. Be sure your voucher slip is validated (HOLE-TYPE PUNCHED) when you arrive at the ORV Area Entrance Gate for the first time, on any particular day.

Q: How many Parking Lot and Dune Ready Vouchers will be given out daily?

A: Over 2,000 Dune Ready Vouchers are distributed each day or between 300 and 500 per two-hour time period over the last two years. This may change in the future because of the stricter enforcement and monitoring requirements associated with the sound level testing or other inspection requirements. The number of available spaces in the lot controls the number of Parking Lot Vouchers. Inclement weather, no-shows, early or unplanned departures, space-sharing and similar actions allow for additional room on occasion. Stand-by Vouchers are used for these unexpected events.

Q: Can I obtain a voucher for someone else?

A: Yes. Two Dune Ready or one Parking Lot Voucher can be obtained by an individual, adult park visitor. These voucher slips will require the addition of the user’s name and main vehicle license number, in ink, prior to validation. Due to the limited number of parking spaces, only one Parking Lot voucher will be given per customer at the appointed times. Two Dune Ready Vouchers can be obtained by one person at the Voucher Center Office, but you will need to know the names and license plate numbers and the intended time period wanted. The voucher forms must be completed, in ink, prior to embossed validation at the time of application at the Voucher Center Office.  Voucher slips will again be validated with a distinctive hole-type punch upon arrival at the ORV Area Entrance Gate.  This hole-type punch will be required if re-entry is requested later during the day. Commercial ORV ride vendors will need to register rental vehicles in advance.

Q: Can I obtain vouchers for the whole weekend at once?

A: You can get Dune Ready Vouchers for both Saturday and Sunday and/or the Holiday at the same time. They will become available at noon on the day prior to the voucher period. In order to give people the opportunity for limited parking spaces, Parking Lot Vouchers will be available at 9 p.m. the day before they are to be used.Saturday Parking Lot Vouchers will be distributed at 9 p.m. each Friday; Sunday's will be distributed at 9 p.m. Saturday and Holiday periods will begin at 9 p.m. the day prior. Once the day’s Parking Lot Vouchers are all given out, visitors may choose to be placed on the Stand-by List for the following day.

Q: When all of the vouchers have been given out for the day, is a user just out of luck?

A: If space opens up in the parking lot, more vehicles will be allowed to enter. Vehicles requiring the use of the parking lot, that do not have a valid voucher for that day will not be allowed to wait in line outside the park, as in years past. The Voucher Center Parking Lot will be used for these Stand-by stacking or cueing line purposes during regular business hours. There will still be a wait with a Stand-by Voucher of course, since there is no guarantee when parking spaces may occur, but the visitor will be better able to make the best use of their time. Dune Ready Vehicles will need to check back during the day for the possibility of entry prior to 7 p.m.

Its really not as complicated as it seams, once you know the rules.

Hope you and troy get a chance to make it, while it does not have the area of Little Sahara it still a fun place.

Lots of people drive trucks in the dunes which I did not see much of a L.S. Drivig a truck in the Dunes is nice because you can setup "camp" and have everything right there while in the dunes.

Agreed Dave. The key is the night before. Getting a good spot in line b4 9pm. Dropping a vehicle or timing it just right is best. We were 100th vehicle in line Friday night a few weeks ago. Got the 8am voucher. Sat morning we were there at 7:55 and there were only 20 in line to get in. Plenty of room at that time to get a good spot in the parking lot without having to worry about swinging trailers around tight spots. Hurts a hangover so early but once you set up in the lot you can take a nap before 9.  Or not

Dave seems to have a handle on all the questions, Glad i dont have to answer them. But i will confirm, getting a voucher is not much of a hassle at all, We park a vehicle or 2 in line, and as long as we have 4 guys in each vehicle, we can get 4 parking lot vouchers per vehicle. It is simple. Flags you can get for $15-$25 depending where you go. ORV is $16.50, state park pass is $10 for instate residents, im not sure what it is for out of state...
Spark arrestors are a must, theyve really cracked down on this.
Noise is not an issue, i mean there's always a couple handfuls of drag bikes out there and we know how loud they are.
I hope you can all make it! it'd be cool to get a bunch of us together and ride PINNED!

The real loud drag bikes are all hauled in in the back of trucks, if someone tried riding past the DNR shack it might get you some hassle.
Just drive in with engine rpms low while going past the DNR shack or even try leaving the choke on making the bike kind of blubber past the officer.

But start looking for old no longer made "sparky" spark arrestors that clamp on to your silencer or buy a fmf turbine core silencer.
If you can make a real profesional looking spark arrestor then that will work also just dont show up with a window screen half assed over the end of the silencer, it will NOT pass.

Its not that big of a deal to run a spark arrestor so no pissing and moaning :)

George, i replaced every electrical compenent possible and all wiring. I talked with Dave Labor Day weekend, we think my float bowl is just running out of fuel, doing a petcock mod so both reserve and on flow into the carb, and playing with the float. Hopefully that fixes it. running outta ride time! Its wedding crunch time so riding isnt really an option, my fiance's carb has been an issue for a about a month now, and ive been playing with my R all year. just never seem to have enough time in the day.

Well guys, i was the last quad in the dunes this year before they closed up, It was raining the whole day. I took the day off work, called up a buddy to ride the wifes bike, and we had a blast. We were the only ones not in a vehicle out there all day, and the majority of the time we had the dunes to ourselves. Of course, the last ride of the year was the best my quad ran all season, but i was happy. Definitely put the R away wet that day. Cant wait for this shindig next summer!

Anyone who is considering (dan & Troy) should really try to go.  It'd be great to finally meet and put faces with the names of so many I already consider friends and have known for many years now. Let's ride and drink some beers and make this one hell of an ORGy!!

Unfortunately not Sam. They are down the road outside the state park and parking lot. You have to trailer in every day which is the parking lot voucher challenge. Unless... you have a ride on (dune ready) which could be a licensed street vehicle that can actually go right on the dunes. Many will put their quad in the bed of their truck and drive right on eliminating the parking lot.

Hey Joe, it is never too early! I would actually suggest booking. The state park is nice, Yogi Bear is better, then if you really want to step your game up and stay at a resort, silver creek rv resort. There is also SIlver lake Resort and Campground. Here are some links.

Just a heads up, they changed the ORV prices this year.

ORV Sticker is now $26.25
State park is $11
New ORV Trail is $10

All vehicles going in to the dunes need all three stickers. If you leave your truck in the parking lot, it only needs a state park.

Michigan's new ORV licenses create better opportunities for ORV riders

Michigan's nearly 3,700 miles of designated off-road vehicle (ORV) trails provide hours of fun for riders, and a $300 million economic impact to gas stations, restaurants, shops and hotels located near the trails.

Trends indicate ORV riding is growing, with Michigan riders spending an average of $1,839 annually on ORV equipment-related expenses - everything from repairs to new equipment.

As of March 1, 2014, ORV licenses and permits in Michigan have changed, and include two levels depending on the type of riding you are doing. There is a $26.25 license that is required on eligible county roads, state forest roads in the Upper Peninsula and eligible national forest roads as well as on the frozen surface of public waters. This license is required to operate anywhere off of private lands.

In addition to the ORV License, an ORV Trail Permit (an additional $10, for a total of $36.25) is required when operating on designated and signed ORV trails, routes and scramble areas.

To capitalize on this growing sport, the Department of Natural Resources wants to take revenue generated from license sales and do many things to provide a better experience for ORV riders. These improvements include:

Acquiring an additional 300 miles for the state's designated ORV trail system.
Providing sufficient trail grant funding to stakeholders to develop, groom and brush trails and add signage.
Providing local law enforcement grants and grants for trail expansion areas.
Ensuring a safer environment for ORV trail users by increasing the number of conservation officers in Michigan, thereby boosting opportunities for education contacts and public safety through trail patrols.
Replacing and renovating failing or aging infrastructure, including bridges and culverts to address safety and environmental issues.
Creating destination places by adding trail connections to communities through easements and acquisitions.
Improving the ORV license-buying experience both online and in retail stores by enhancing the retail sales system.
Creating a southern Michigan ORV area closer to local population centers.
Better promoting Michigan's extensive network of trails and boost our reputation as the nation's Trails State.
With this additional revenue, Michigan intends to roar to the top as the destination state for ORV enthusiasts, benefiting thousands of small businesses around the state and providing a fun and exciting way to connect with our natural resources.

Another way to make some $ on growing activity. It's ok in my opinion if they use more of the funds for improvements (maybe larger parking lot at SL) and grooming trails rather than rent a Yogi's running around with decibel meters and rods to stick in your pipe.
I always felt at SL they needed to add an access road from the state park campground and expand the campground. Then you could ride on instead of packing the parking lot.

Jon you have no choice. You will be there.

George i think that'd be a super cool idea, only issue would be fueling up for us 2 strokers haha. But regardless, trucks, rxrs, buggies etc could all just drive in no problem. I too have thought it'd be wise to open up a few roads for those on the way to dunes or home from dunes. But again, hard to regulate. It'd be nice to have a second entrance and larger parking lot.

Well shit and i want to ride the forbiden dunes too!!

Jeremy Here's what I found out when I called:

Thanks alot!  I wish the guys would say yeh or ney on our bike trip out west.  Then I could commit on this.  Really don't want to miss this one.

@Sam.....parking lot in a trailer or 4 guys splitting a room looks like a plan.

Didn't hear anything about your bike trip You can always hit the road on the hog! This could be an epic event. (or not)  Let me know if you nay think about camping with the trailer. I can get you the info on the campground.

Great joe. Was thinking Thursday too but don't know if brad or tickle can get off till Friday night. If you go Thursday I may come up early. We will talk more in a few weeks when I drop the motor off.
Are you planning on camping or did u decide to hotel it?

Well guys, it looks like you can count me in on this. We're moving back to MI next month and the ole lady gave me the go ahead. My buddy wants to come also (he rides a 400EX) and my bro-in-law might come and ride my Scrambler 400. We are planning on staying at Jellystone campground.

Yogi Bear aka Jellystone is the closest to Marcs place. With the no fun park(state park) coming in second about 1/4 mile farther away.

It's not like anybody needs to be partying there anyway, we can party as much as we want at my place with no issues. I guess I'll stop giving advice since Colin seems to own Silver Lake and know everything there is about it. There's a difference between partying and having fun in the campground, and being a complete idiot and yelling things at the top of your lungs at 2am.

You are highly mistaken on what actually happened. But to clarify, we were kicked out of the campground sitting around a fire, after curfew, and not staying on the campsite not partying. And we left appropriately and respectfully. The DNR had called the cops before we left. And as we were leaving, Brad yelled(and that was the first yelling of any kind there was). So who knows everything? I have actually camped in the parks.

You and Brad were YELLING "Happy Canada day F*ckers" And I have camped there too, probably at least a half dozen times in the state park, and we have never gotten kicked out, even in the summer, with Sam, who can get kicked out of anywhere. Did I say you can be loud, NO! I said, you would be better off getting a site there, cheap, and partying at my place, a short walk away. I would not post about stuff when I don't know what I am talking about. Probably my biggest pet peeve ever. Either post when you know an answer, or shut the FUCK up! And It's not this post, its many. Why would you need to be corrected on stuff. There should NEVER be a correction made. I have seen MULTIPLE times when you post about a lobo, or something you don't own, and have been corrected. Thats just fucking stupid! Wrong info is TEN TIMES WORSE than no info. I will not post again on this subject, just realize what you're saying before it comes out of your mouth, and makes you look like an idiot later.

Let's just go up there and have a good time. If anybody really wants to know, probably the rowdiest of the campgrounds is Val-du, but it is about a mile away, and even there, we have gotten yelled at for doing keg stands at 2am ;)

Ok boys its a draw. It will all about fun and riding. Soooo as long as we have the gracious Marc to allow us all to be in one place to hang, drink, have a fire and talk about life in person instead of typing to each other for 9 months, I would assume it doesn't matter where the hell we actually stay. What I will say is I personally do not know nearly as much as all of you know about the R's but I do have a passion and love to learn from those who have that same passion. Its how I roll in life. See ya all soon and we can tip one or 5 together.

When at the dunes where are you guys hanging out at (parking lot, beach)? Our group we always take a truck out with coolers, BBq, etc.. and set up by the beach near the small drag strip.

most likely both. we usually go back to in the lot. Our trailer has a major sound system that we rock to parking lot with.
Sometimes bringing everything out on the sand is a pain. Fuel/coolers/quad tent ……

There is a place right next to the dune entrance that sells it, I believe it's $7.60/gal... No need to stock up.

That's awesome to hear!  I'm gonna have to stock up before I go home just paid 80 bucks for 5 gallons at the local shop

Type 9 as in trx9? The trx9 would definitely be a better fit. And wow, I wouldn't run 110 if it cost me $80 for every 4 hrs of riding! Hello bigger squish I'd say

Coming soon boyz!!! I leave for Sin City today till July 4th on Business (and some partying with the UFC boys). Then party weekend for the fourth to get ready for yet another party weekend in the sand. My kind of summer. I think I will shoot for early Thursday morning to hit it up with Joe Croat.

FYI: No Hotdog costume for me.  But I should smile

I pick up higgy at the airport at 4:45 pm and then to the house to put his things in the trailer and then we head up and we will stop for food and ice on our way. I hope I have enough fuel for the weekend I think 15+ gallons of race gas should do it for 3 days and 2 R's.  Getting the new awning installed on the 4th and the actual recharged this week as well. The bed in the living quarters isn't done yet but there's always the floor if I have to.
Cleaning the trailer and mopping get the floor and lots to do to the bikes as well still. Truck goes in on Tuesday to get some things fixed on it as well. So busy busy as usual for me. But I am ready I already got the orv stickers and cut me a new number background for the to mount on my grab bar. I am ready to ride now, can't wait to ride eat drink and meet everyone. And we mite as well just make this a annual event if everyone wants to commit and set a date for it for next year. I'm down for sure.

One of my best friends owns a slaughterhouse/meat store, I am going to bring 10lb of hot dogs(about 90). Anyone want to grab the buns or condiments? I am only there Friday night, so dogs for dinner that night. Marc has a grill, another would be welcomed!

I was just thinking about what we were going to eat.  i'll buy the buns and condiments for all of us.  so, is there a local grocery store?  how about restaurant's?  liquor/beverage store?  I am hoping to travel light and purchase everything (well almost) near the dunes.

Also, I have 2 extra dune flags (poles) available for someone to borrow if they choose too.  the actual flags are ripped but the shop at the dune entrance sells a replacement flag ($5).  I will get them replaced thurs morning. once again..i will replace the flags and they are free for someone to borrow for the weekend.  I guess first come first serve...gets them.

Does anything with the DNR or state of michigan make sense? They are saying the dune entrance and exit are trails, requiring the orv trail, then the dunes needing the orv. It is stupid as it requires two ugly stickers on my nice bikes now, but it's the rules. So get them both sir!

Well it used to be $25 for the orv and $25 for the state park pass, then they changed it to $10 for state park and orv was 16.25. Now they're just back to where they used to be. I'd have no problem with it if we could have it all on one sticker.

On the dnr website it states the orv trail permit is needed for state trails and scramble areas. I guess you can consider the dunes a scramble area

If you want to ride off road you need a orv sticker. If you want to ride on state land then you need the both stickers.  It's pretty simple. Silver lake is a state park. And yes two stickers sucks.

Hey guys, I talked to a buddy up there and he is not going to be there next weekend, so we have room to park a few more trucks/trailers. We will make a plan Thursday night about getting vouchers on Friday. Weather looks decent, hope the big storms hold off but overall I think it will be a great time!

If anyone is wondering where to meet up, my family's cottage is located on Silver Lake very close to all the hotels/campgrounds. If you find the roundabout right in the center of town by the gas station, and head west towards the lake, and turn right at the lake, you will see about a half dozen rental cottages, then a small street, and my cottage is next, white with red trim. If you cross a small river/channel, then you are about 6 cottages too far north. I'll get up there Thursday night at about 8. Look for my grey avalanche parked out front with my quad in a small 6x8 trailer. Coordinates: 43.668712, -86.489979

**Parking is going to be an issue for people coming and hanging out all evening, so if you are staying at a campground or hotel right in town, please just walk over**

Another warning for people that are not familiar with the area, the cell phone service SUCKS up there. Texting is usually OK, but this past weekend, I got some texts like 2 days after they were sent...

not bringing the liger, I probably will not get it out until labor day. I am still not 100% if we can make it, I might have to work the weekend and we were just up there for the 4th.
I think my nephew is going to be there with his 363 sphynx, not a full on drag bike but runs pretty good.
He was trading wins with that weird looking hayabusa bike on the Saturday,(http://i.ytimg.com/vi/Vq4kMySijYw/0.jpg)

The bike had a best speed in 300ft of 68mph with a out of frame CPI pipe, but he wants his inframe FTZ pipe back on so the bike looks more stealth to beatup on the built 450 bikes that wont race him when they see the out of frame pipe on it. so we will see how that affects performance.

George you guys will be able to park at the hotel, they have spots large enough for trailers.

But if somehow you can't get a spot there, our buddies cottage (which Marc referenced) is open for parking. That is where I will be parking my rig.

Yes it is different toned red.... Jack off before me did it. I haven't painted it all yet.  I may have a bigger trailer too, we will see.

If there is room in the hotel parking lot I agree that would be best. I never stayed at that hotel so I don't know what the parking is like for guests with trailers.

not bringing the liger, I probably will not get it out until labor day.

Dave I thought you would make it!  I was really looking forward to meeting you..

well looks like I am coming up Friday night after work and riding Sat and Sun.

probably will set up camp out in the dunes more than likely by the beach area where everyone races since the other 2 spots are flooded. I will just have my stock 88 dune bike, nephew will not have his sphynx out until Sunday because he is working on Saturday.
I will have tools and some minor parts in my truck so if anyone needs assistance swing by.

Not a picture of my truck, but it looks exactly like this.

IS it possible for someone to get a parking lot voucher for someone else if they have the license plate number?  I would LOVE to go for the day on Saturday. But I wouldn't be in town Friday to get a voucher.

It sure is, we do that every holiday weekend. Shoot me a text with your vehicle license plate # 231-907-1099

you dont need a license plate # to get extra vouchers, 4 per vehicle with 4 adults. Then the next day the person filling out the blank voucher goes to the voucher center and has it validated after they fill in their information
Parking lot voucher requires you to show up at 7-8am or 8-9am, you can dump your trailer and go back to your hotel or camp site and come back at a later time

Could be worse Fear... A while back we were on our way to up to Portland (about a 4hr drive) and we came around a corner and this truck with around a 35' toyhauler comes flying by us at 60mph and the left rear wheel and the last 5' of the trailer were on fire.. I felt bad that I couldn't help but there was no place for me to turn around for 3 miles without endangering my wife and kids. At that place in the road that guy would of had to go another 2 miles just to find a place to pull off. I don't think he was even aware of what was going on when we passed. I looked on the way home for signs of a complete melt down on the side of the road but didn't see any thankfully.

Little lake? Man you crazy! Lol. It is a great place, thankful to have it in my backyard. I had a blast meeting everyone! What a fun group of guys. It truly was tight knit, everyone hung out in a huge group the entire day for the most part. All the trailers and trucks in 1 spot, at night we were all together having a blast. It was great meeting everybody and a big shout out to the long distance guys, hope they felt it was worth the time and money for the get together.
Silverlake may not be the biggest and best but it's our home and we are proud of it.
if we do another get together at silverlake then we should also include a day on the trails up at Baldwin just to beak it up.

What did Doug ride? The unreal lobo he has or that secret build he's had going on for awhile?  No clue if it ever finished

Such a sick lineup of R's!!!!!!!!!!

He rode the Lobo!!

It was great to meet Doug. Haven't seen him around in quite sometime. I was completely shocked when Marc brought him over and said this is DTown.

Man looks like a blast.  I just had way too much going on to even consider it as it got closer.  My bike trip and job were throwing a major wrench at me this year.  I will for sure have to make it next time.

I agree dave Baldwin would be great. JoeCroat1 and I were thinking of doing that for this past Thursday, but  the sand was calling. I would just need to place some race gas around strategic places in Baldwin so we could go more than just some small loops.

As far as the out of state guys, I believe they feel it was worth it. It was for me to meet everyone. Some awesome friendships were made.

Once he gets a 286 disc drive computer he will need to learn how to set up his dial up connection.  LMAO.

I nicknamed him tickle because he reminds me of the character on Moonshiners.

Great to meet you. Good thing the Banshee boy didn't mess up your quad even worse. Glad it was only semi-minor damage. Mark was just saying the night before how most accidents happen when there is crossovers like what happened to you.

this would make a badass site banner with the logo over the top of the image somewhere, even if it was just a temporary deal it would be sweet

It's all good Dave this was more about meeting everyone and letting Higgy do some riding. I had a great time and it didn't bother me at all that I didn't get it fixed that night. On Sunday I helped a guy with his clutch on his razor, and I helped a group of kids who had major problems with the front to of there truck breaking. I helped fix all I could and almost got him on the road to home but I didn't have a ball joint press.
So all in all I met some more cool people and did what I like to do and that is help fix things for people. It makes me feel good.

I had a great time hangin out with everyone. Definately worth it!!! The dunes were obviously a lot smaller then I'm used to, but I still had a blast. I gotta give a big shout out to my boy Jamie for everything he did to make this trip happen for me. I really enjoyed meeting everyone and just getting to hang out. From wrenching in the pits to ridding pinned in the dunes what a great group! Also wanted to thank everyone else that let me ride their bikes, Marc ur Lobo was hella fun to ride!! So with this trip in the books, I can't wait to see you guys again on the next one. Ohhh and I'll have my own bike next time!!
Thanks Higgy

So hypotheticly speaking, lets say we are all gazelles quick and nimble!  We must NEVER! stray away from the herd because the lions will find you! They will seek out the slow easy targets with broken machines.. Snatch them take them far away to the parkinglot and eat them for dinner..thus being the one left away from the pack with out a club picture... Don't stray my little gazelles!

Good night ladies
