I got this thing out for a ride today. Runs smooth from idle to 3/4 throttle, then it starts to vibrate up top. Not the same vibration as a bike motor solid mounted in a frame, but it still has a vibration. I now need to jet the carb and play with the gearing.

What counter-balancer is used on these?

Those cases are killer!  I tried to build a similar project but went the Saber top end route for an MX platform... :D

What is the weight of it ? I think MART from down under (australia) found that 800grams worked good....Keep up the great work!!

I have not even attemped to play with the weight or re-clocking the balancer yet.  I am going to play with the jetting,  break it in and then it's going to the motorcross track to get abused.

I rode it today. Zero vibration until wound tight. Different powerband than a 250r also acts different than my other
Bike with the bike cr500. You run out of gears and road pretty quick.

looking good, probably have to play with the balance factor of the crank or counter balancer to find what feels best in your chassis dynamics along with crank balance factor/piston weight setup

What year crank is in that motor, I know some year cranks do not have the counterweight exactly 180 degrees from the rod pin.  I have a factory 86 crank that when it sits in it the cases it rolls the crank pin to about the 1:00 position where my other cranks both cr500 and 250r, the cranks will sit at the 12:00 position

The crank and cylinder were just some parts I had on the shelf. It's a 85 rotating assy. I bored it to 90mm. Cylinder is bone stock unported with a 39 pwk carb and the pipe is on CT made me for my first Cr500 conversion back in the late 80's.  I think right now I have two much weight in the balancer.  For now I will run it like it is and see what scatters first. I have about an hour on the bike now. So far no bolts have come loose. That's a first and when you ride it, it doesn't feel like you were holding onto a live 220 line.

Would be interesting how a crank with the counterweight 180degrees from the connecting rod  I would bet that 85 crank is like my 86 which is not exactly 180

they kick reverse, and break your foot if you stomp them like that,

Without the decomp valve I can't kick it over.  It starts pretty easy if a big guy kicks it.

Decomp valves are a life saver i hear, im a big guy and i wont kick my 86 without at least thick soled work boots and even then i have to roll it over to tdc then kick it like im trying to break it. And by roll it over i mean stand on it till the compression seeps the piston over
i cannot imagine the beast of a man that could start it on the side of a muddy hill after a hangup in a race

i forgot you done a bunch of work inside the cases with the balancer and what not and there may be more going on there than meets the eye

This guy is a flake do not buy from him, one of the pictures of a ported cr500 cylinder, is a picture he stole from a for sale ad of mine. I questioned him about the billet cases and he has more lies than the "coc" could not show any pictures of a finished set but has sold and shipped 5 sets already. The air cooled cylinder cut with flat sides was my buddies that sold it to him but he takes all the credit for it. his aircooled 500's make 108hp haha

I DID TRY TO MAKE BILLET CR250 AND CR500 CASES HAHA!!!:respekt: This member is a JOKE. Do not WASTE your time with him. PUNK kid with lots of DADS money.

I just made my first fb a month ago. The person that made the cl ad was my supposed best friend trying to ruin me. He was also the one that Made the facebook account and was verbally abusive, stealing pics. I do My own porting and builds. Air cooled 01 cr500 short (139MM) rod. I machined the deck on the 01 cases down 5MM. I leave the fins around the transfers 4mm so I can completely weld them up and add the 2 intake boost ports plus a top boost feed port. Also machined the complete reed tract off and welded a custom reed tract that takes liger/AC reedcage. Also installed a 98mm wossner piston so its 596cc. I tried the vf3 reedcage first and made 107.8hp I started looking online and seen boyesen makes a reedcage for that pattern as well. I ordered a set and added my billet straight in (no angle) and installed them when they came in and went to the dyno, It made 109.1hp I WAS AMAZED!!!. I tried a different map in my programmable MSD ignition and ended up at 111.4HP
@9,998 RPM

CR250S FROM 265-538CC    CR500S FROM 550-844CC    STROKER CRANKS TO 94MM

I ALSO OFFER CASES WITH HIGHER PRIMARY DRIVE RATIOS FOR DRAG RACERS AND SUPERMOTO GUYS. CASES ARE OFFERED IN VARYING DECK HEIGHTS!

it would be a shame to put in that much effort only to mostly copy a engine from 30yrs ago that wasn't a true high performance design to begin with
