Title: 1st. Gear Sputter, Pop
Post by: F-Red on September 27, 2013, 07:25:54 PM
Got the fresh top end 330 running. Took a little ride in the yard.
Taking off in first, giving her throttle, she stumbles As I feather
the throttle, she picks up slightly, then a carb sounding pop, then
she freaking takes off like the Devil. Hit second gear, feels great
then I run out of yard. Running. 52 pilot DGH needle. What you
guys think?

Think you should see if its consistent or just something unexpected, take it easy!!!! I have taken the bike to the dunes for break in and seems like the carb had not been used in awhile. Dying unexpectedly.

It's such a weird feel. I would take it down the road, don't won't damage anything. Anyone run a pilot, bigger than 52?

That just seems like a lot of fuel. Pulled the plug, very wet.

It's consistent, same throttle position every time. It did the same with a 48 pilot, maybe to rich?

Gap is .025 timing is stock setting ESR adapter plate. Main 190, Sunoco Supreme, 32:1 Supertechni-Plate. I just put in a 45 pilot. Watching the Canes football game.
Will test ride soon.

If the motor Idles best at 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 turns out on the air mixture screw ,the pilot should be good. the pilots effect tappers off pretty quick as the throttle is opened.the slide cutaway and needle come into play.

Would a DGH needle be sufficient?

I'd try a different needle. Change the H to a J, K, or L.

Cr or stock ignition
What dome
I know your running 112 for clean fuel purpose
But ive noticed on my bike if I dump 112 in it gets lazy on the rev up
110 runs crisp
Remember too much octane well effect jetting
Also what size carb

ESR pump gas dome. 38mm Airstryker.
This is the fourth piston, with this cylinder. Ran non-ethanol mixed with 110. This straight Sunoco Supreme, woke this motor up! Quick throttle responds.

As you guys stated, she was too rich. Need to get more seat time for WOT plug chops. But very happy with the results, thus far. Thanks for the help.

Cool, Arlan has some good advice on needles in another thread.
