Last weekend duned out at Buttercup down to the US - Mexico border. Rode my ATC and LTR but only have a few boring pics of the wall. Sand was killer though.

Cool! its on my bucket list to go riding out west in the dunes that go for miles and miles

Looks like a good place to ride. Are there any locals out there tearing it up ?
-
That looks like fun but I would pry get lost and run out of gas too.

Ya before the fence you had to be careful to not ride into Mexico but was a nice ride over to a little settlement called "Algoones" park on the US side an walk into town.
"HJ" :ride:

This area is called Buttercup and isn't too big now that its fenced in on the south and hits the freeway north so getting lost isn't a problem. Didn't see any locals on the south side of the fence out there. If you hang too long around the fence the border patrol will visit you. Had some excitement Sunday am when a nice sand rail flipped over (first wreck of the season) and the border patrol, BLM, first aid and others came to the rescue. Only 1 person went to the ER.

It was a lot of fun when you could ride into algodones... Then you had to walk across.
Last I heard that you can no longer go thru that route, but I don't know for sure.

Thats not what I meant. I was not sure if there were riding areas in Mexico that were used for recreation. Not all of them are poor bad boys.

I've rode out at buttercup a few times very cool man!

Before that fence was there, my buddies and I about a group of 5 rode south until we ran into a crop field. After we made it back to camp, US Customs showed up within 20 min and explained to us that we'd ridin about 1.5mi into MX lol. Needles to say they gave us a hard time and contemplated in pounding our bikes, but we played dumb and all was well.
We've also been to Butter Cup on Halloween.....place get insanely packed and very fun...especially Comp Hill. Then you can ride over to Gordon's Well for the drag strip and watch 5 Rails drag at once....VERY FUN!!!

Sometimes when riding along the fence, I see riders on the other side. Once I seen a group of 10, I assumed they were Mexican.

I agree with Dave, this is something I've been wanting to do for a while. Just gotta be careful because of the drug cartels coming in thru the dunes. I saw a story on that on fox a while back.

hey john you lived here and didnt go bro, you were 2 hours way ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Looks fun. I duned Glamis once (Northern section) but never made it down to Buttercup. Have anymore pics from the ride?

yeah yeah yeah........the cartel will kill you woopi do ! I`ve lived here most my life .......i cry for Mexico ! The dunes are known as the Algodones range and theres more square miles of sand on the mexican side then there is in Imperial co. ! You can`t feck with Mexico.......they know how naive you are and they`ll take what you got !........just like Peshi said in casino........dares alot a holes in da desert ! From Gordys to Glamis it`s probably the best riding you`ll find anywhere in the US ! I had some pics of the Star Wars set at Buttercup but i can`t seem to find them .
