Title: Piston Preference
Post by: zarathos on October 07, 2013, 06:25:36 PM
Just curious what brand of piston everyone prefers and why. Wiseco? Pro-x? Is there a brand I should definitely stay away from? I've always ran Wiseco in snowmobiles with good luck. The guy that built my Scrambler engine put a Namura piston in it, so I guess I'll find out if that's any good. Anyway, let's hear what you like, or don't.

Yeah, I figured as much. He's a very good, meticulous builder, however he mostly does stock stuff. I guess he's had good luck with Namura, but I don't think he's ever put one in anything with real power. We'll see how it goes, he stands behind his work, if there's a problem he'll take care of me.

i prefer wossner.  they are a lil heavier than weisco, but they are moly coated which aids in the break-in process.  plus, they cost less than weisco.

I prefer Wiseco pistons. I have always had great performance from them.

For some additional info, this article has alot of good info on the pros and cons of cast and forged pistons:

I've used oem & weisco pistons in my bike with no issues. The 86 I recently got has a pro-x piston in it, I haven't ran it yet but I'm sure it will work fine. I would think that a person would be safe using any one of the known piston manufacturer's but as with anything mechanical, every now & than you get a dud.
