Bolted up the JD+2 front end. Put OEM shocks on for now but have a set of TCS waiting on the springs to come back with fresh powder.

This is the original 86' engine that's never been opened up and needs a refresh for sure. Not sure if I want to tackle this or have someone else rebuild it. I have a nice 88 engine that I'll use for now.

Dressed her up a bit. This is how she sits as I have some odds and ends that I'm waiting on.

That sure is a beauty bnau. The white and blue was always my favorite. Probably because that's the colors Maybe it's because those are the colors Marty Hart race back in the day or because it's the least common, I'm not really sure. Yours is coming along just perfect. Definitely something to be proud of.
-
Nice build man and it looks like you have a few more 250rs there also. But I love the white and blue for the plastics and all else just looks great as well.
-
Bike looks awesome! Nice work. If your ever thinking about selling the 86 engine I'd be interested.
-
Thanks for the positive feedback. I can't seem to stray from the standard OEM scheme - just looks clean to me. It will be nice to get this thing on wheels! My current stumbling block is whether or not to use these wheels (below) or find some nice used ITP T9's (non-beadlock). I'd like to get a 4/1 to help narrow it up. If I knew then what I know now I would have searched harder for +1 A-arms! Oh well.....

Nice restoration, you have going there! I dig the shamrock look. I have a set of Douglas A5's on a 450R. :love-struck:
-
That looks awesome so far. I have always loved the blue and white ones!
-
nice bike.....
in the middle of a build now

What frame is that yellow one ( is that a lsr frame ) and I need another set of white fullbores too. Lol
-
Arens frame I believe Jamie.
-
It's an Arens XC frame that I picked up from a guy in KY....
John Arens confirmed for me that it was a Custom Configuration setup that he built for a XC racer.
(http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Bnau267/86%20r/ArensFrame_zps650c81c3.jpg) (http://s1004.photobucket.com/user/Bnau267/media/86%20r/ArensFrame_zps650c81c3.jpg.html)
-
Wish I knew more of the history behind the frame. I bought it from a guy in KY who said it belonged to a friend of his who received support from Arens Bros in the GNCC or some XC series. I believe him because the welds are a work of ART! Jamie - the fenders are mint. If/when I let these go...I'll reach out to you. Honestly, Western PA (mud pit) is not the place for these fenders and this bike needs to have mud on it to justify the garage space (per the boss). I can't bring myself to get those fenders muddy...
Ok just let me know and if you need anything let me know also, be glad to help ya with whatever.
-
Ow I forgot to mention do you need rear wheels bud I have a set of reinforced 8in rears if your interested pm me and let me know

Third time is the charm! Finally figured out the correct OCAP tie rods and these look to be a perfect match. Lessons learned - I bought 4 Moogs (16mm), 4 OCAPs (14mm LH), and the same OCAPs but with the RH thread. Moogs are easy because PN's ending in R means Right and L means Left. OCAP part numbers end in 1 = LH and 2 = RH. Just figured I'd throw it out there for those of you who may order direct from a distributor. I paid the same amount for 12 tie rods as what JD performance was going to charge for 4+shipping. If you need 14mm JB racing has the best price $25 unless you go direct from an auto parts store. I'll still save $50 after all the returns. Having fun though....

The end is near! Need to get tires/wheels squared away and tie up a couple loose ends like lighting. Picked up some some wheels and a duncan bumper. Bumper has some rough spots so I'm just gonna have it pc'd satin black to match the stem, handlebars, and grab bar. Will need some new rings for the wheels. Anyone ever try to anodizing wheels? I like the old 86 look but haven't seen gold wheels other than the OEMs.
(http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Bnau267/86%20r/image_zpsec699a39.jpg) (http://s1004.photobucket.com/user/Bnau267/media/86%20r/image_zpsec699a39.jpg.html)
-
Looks good! I did gold powder on these, pic makes them look darker than they were, and you cant see the metallic. Sommer Set Gold, wasnt meant as an oem match, but it was the best gold choice for the look.
-
That looks pretty cool. Thanks for posting. Gold, black, polished....I'm thinking I may just leave them as "weathered" aluminum and get new white rings.
-
Good idea,I've seen them in black and honestly I didnt like it,it hid the details of the Shamrock's and made them look like a cheap beadlock.
-
Got some parts back from powder today. OEM bumper in a satin black, duncan starting a new life in textured black, and some springs off my TCS standard travel powdered in blue to replace the OEMs but keep that 86 theme alive. Got the rear brake on as well as the a new airbox boot. I bought one of those OEM remakes...not great but not too bad. Stretched over the carb real easy. I'll get some progress pics up in the next day or so. The Blue is a little more Blue than I thought it would be. Honda colors are tough to match....

-
Im digging that Duncan in black, and that blue looks good too!! Just leave the lower mount in case you want to switch back, I wouldnt think it would be in the way of anything. If you need any measurements let me know.
-
I really like the black Duncan.....like they say with some Harley's-black is the new chrome.
-
The chrome was beat down so I figured why not try a black wrinkle. It turned out better than I expected and the wrinkle did a great job of hiding most every war wound. Getting closer to completion every day... I'll be starting a build thread as soon as I get my Arens back from the local chassis shop. You'll be able to see the clearance between the linkage mount and swing arm that has me concerned.

Cool, what swingarm are you using?

Got another part checked off the list today. This thing is a bonafide rock crusher!

The plastic looks pretty darn immaculate. Only a few lucky ones have those anymore. Keep up the great work it looks freakin awesome.

They are a blessing and a curse....too risky to run so I'm gonna buy some White Maiers and get a set of 86 graphics. I broke a chain on my YZ and cracked my case which cost $425 for the left side only. Curious about a UPP case saver so I bought one. I can confirm that these things are pure BEEF!!!! Not good for photo shoots but top notch for down and dirty woods riding. This may make it's way onto my next build since this bike won't see a lot of mud.

Nice!! Do you know what shock length that Roll swingarm uses?
-
I can't remember but I'll measure it today after work. I bought the shock from the same guy to eliminate any guessing down the road. He had a pair of Roll frames but wouldn't even consider offers....
-
That makes life easier getting it with the swinger! I cant remember what mine is on the Houser,17.5" I think, and Laegers are 18.5? Whatever it is theres a 1" difference, I was just curious what a Roll would be.
-
How many R's you got man, and the build looks great man. You figure anything out with the white fullbores yet. And if you want to anodize the wheels let me know and I will talk to my buddy and see what it mite cost to do them for you just let me know what color you want to go with.
-
Nice!! Do you know what shock length that Roll swingarm uses?
Finally got around to measuring it today - shock is 15.5" center to center using the standard OEM mounting location.

Cool man just let me know on the white ones then.
-
That makes sense on the rear shock length, mine is 17" but the upper shock mount is probly around 1.5" higher than my stock frames mount
-
I'd really like to switch the entire rear end over to a trx450. Parts are so much cheaper not to mention on every corner....
(http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Bnau267/image_zpsb9f41fb8.jpg) (http://s1004.photobucket.com/user/Bnau267/media/image_zpsb9f41fb8.jpg.html)
-
That was my plan for the Houser..lol
-
Some body just had 450r parts for sale on trx250r owners for life on facebook. Swinger and other rear end parts.
-
This has been a fun build and I've learned a lot along the way. Looks like the data base glitch wiped out the progress pictures! Here is how she sits today. I didn't like the 3 piece brake lines so I ordered a dual setup. Decided to save some money and stick with the original wheels. They aren't perfect but they are free...sort of. I'm probably going to pull the radiator shrouds and have them powder coated black. Gonna have the same PC applied to the OEM front bumper skid. Don't like the look of the grey 400EX hubs so I'll swap them out for some Red R hubs.
Odds and ends...but getting darn close.

Sorry about the pics. The quads looking good
No problem. I'll go back and add them in eventually....LOL.
-
Sorry about the pics. The quads looking good
Updated with all the old pics.
-
Well the engine swap has begun. The 88 engine is out getting a PC2000 treatment and the 86 engine is still in it's original sorry state. I have some nice 87 cases that will be used for the 86 engine rebuild. Going to make it a long rod. Besides exposing my seat hoarding issue, you can see from this pic how everything came together - red hubs (not really visible), the gold wheels, PC black Duncan bumper, shocks, etc. Can't wait to finish this SOB once and for all...LOL.

Wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing part numbers for the replacements you found
-
This is what worked. I bought the left hand threads the first time...LOL. You can google the part # and find a bunch of suppliers.

thanks for the info.

86 is gone! Sold as a roller today. Kept the engine, plastics, tank, and seat.
Gonna start a new thread for this 97' LSR Outlaw.
