Title: Is this a Hybrid too? (Updated)
Post by: mrtwidster1 on October 19, 2013, 07:10:41 AM
Does this qualify as a HYBRID? If it does, then I'm building one and did not even know it!! How KOOL is that. I will call it a TTT That's pronounced... Teeee Teeee Teeee!!
(Just want any potential Sponsors to know along with any potential team riders... Hmmm... I wonder if PEE WEE would be interested? I will also need a excellent mechanic with winning credentials. Been reading about one but a'lass, that person already has a job.)

TRX 450r Swinger, Inverted forks. Tires, wheels, handle bars, fenders, headlight, motor (with no kicker??) CC seat, Red lug nuts (KASEY and Fire1's are SOOO MUCH NICER) etc...
OH YEAH.. And the Money Keeps FALLING OFF THE TREE'S

HOPE THIS MADE YOU SMILE!! I'm Just not ready for the Group hug yet!!:sign0144:

Thanks Kasey for the Compliment ! Means a lot coming from you! If most folks only knew and appreciated what Guys like you have contributed to our passion over the years. Thanks again! Great Tip on the Silencer clamp. I like it and will use it!!!!
I'm good on the kicker. Thanks for the offer. (This what our community and country are all about!)

Just a little off subject but if anyone here has not seen Kasey's work, You are missing a lot.

Thanks for the compliments Tim! Great to hear from you!

I still have several small detail things. The pipe will come back off and somthing done with it as far as the finish.
I am going to completly dis assemble and clean and re-polish some things. I will add some more anodized red pcs also.
It makes it tough to give something like this the attention it needs when you do not have a reasonably controlled enviroment. My better half is not to keen on the idea of me bringing this in the house!!! Ha HA!

I am not even expecting to finish this until the spring. I still have the CR Jug I am going to use.
I need to machine a few more parts also. I have the tanks coated but not painted. Going to paint the stock tank and the desert like we talked about. The caswell coating looks to be a great product was very easy to use.
Thanks for all your input.

Note to all... If you get the chance look at Fire1's work.. Like Kasey's, you will be amazed.

What switch did you use? Is that an e-start, hot start, or aaooogahh horn?

Sweet trike btw.

LOL all the above!
Switch off a 200e the bottom switch is removable. I went with this switch because it gave me more room on the bars. The grips are longer than OEM. The 82 R switch is like this without the bottom start button. I wanted some old school, plus this switch is in excellent condition.

A 200e switch eh. I can appreciate room on the bars. I've been compromising going with a cr kill and low beam hard wired on.
Title: Is this a Hybrid too?
Post by: mrtwidster1 on February 01, 2014, 08:10:10 AM
The average person will never know where the switch came from. Like I said before, the grips are longer. I wanted to stay with something honda and also put some old school items on it. I have a 85 CR jug that will go on this, it has a Jemco pipe and Richter silencer. I have a complete cr 2001 ignition set up for this also. But as can be seen it still has a headlight. If i get the lighting coil option the I will use the light switch. If not... Well it is in my opinion a hybrid. LOL
I machined and fabbed the front tripples, stretched the swinger along with other one off stuff. It has some PUMASHINE products as well.
This build is kinda like HIP HOP IN A HONKY TONK. Never in my 55 years did I ever think that I would see Country and Rap mixed together, but Colt Ford pulls it off, so all I can say is God bless America, and Rock on!!! Peace out dudes!
Title: Is this a Hybrid too?
Post by: mrtwidster1 on February 01, 2014, 08:31:30 AM
If I was not for wanting to go with the trx 450r swinger and brake set up I would have put my Westcoast swing arm on this build.
The 10" front rim with the 21 tire and the 18" rear tires help change the appearance some. The desert tank and seat will probably never see the desert! Ha Ha. But Mrs Mosh at cosmic quads made the cover and sold me the foam and fixed me up good.
I also have some one off stainless parts for this build that I made, Skid plates, brake petal that is a quicker style to remove. I will also have some style of quick change cover. I have anodized as well as powder coated parts that I done myself. The pegs I made and coated myself.
I could have put a good payment in a TPC with what I have in this build. I am building this for the experience, not the return on investment. Never ran any machine shop equipment before this build. I have access to it now. Never Tigged welded before either, never powdercoated or anodized anything either, until now. Oh yeah I polished all my own stuff.
Not blowing my own horn here. These things are just what I wanted to do for the fun and experience.

Ha Ha. May look bad when I fire it up and get it muddy, but it's mine and I like it.
ROCK ON!!!!

I also Have an 86 Trx rear shock I will put on. The ressie on the stock 450r gets in the way of the Jemco stinger.
I will also fab me a custom air box in the next month or so. So much still to do. Not having a good controlled area to work does hinder, but it can't all be good. HA HA HA

Title: Hand fabricated air box
Post by: mrtwidster1 on February 14, 2014, 09:35:23 AM
Here is the airbox I am working on. 16 ga. stainless. Went with the TRX style, but may also make one of the ATC style for my Stock ATC 250r that I will rework when this build is done. This stainless polishes up real nice.
All "FUSION" welded. Thought I would throw that BIG BUZ WORD in there! " FUSION WELDED".

I have this test fitted in a mock up frame. I will add the detail work to it next week after My K&n filter comes in. The inlet tube has to be aligned to the correct angle for the filter. I will make a lid for this also. I could have went will Aluminum but this build has several stainless ONE OFF hand fabricated parts so I want to stay with the stainless as much as possible.
I know it adds to the weight, So I guess I will need to Loose some more to offset it. OH the sacrifices we must make!!! HA HA HA!

Not too busy, Taken almost 5 yrs. Trying to keep the cost down as much as I can.

KTM 85sx forks with stiffer springs.
Pegs are made from perforated metal. Came from scrap.
Wish they were stainless, but Oh well.
Thanks

Nice I've always wanted to do the 85 CR cylinder on my 85. Love the look of the big water jacket over the exhaust port. Bet it runs good too! Did you have to make a custom exhaust flange?

The cases were painted white. The paint kept chipping so I stripped and polished. I have a ESR quick change that I may Powder and install. The ign. cover will be powdered as well. When I build a 350 for this bike it will have ESR cases, and then they will be white. This motor is not the final motor.

Added a extra riser spacer (rough cut for this pic) for the dampner n clamp assembly. Also fabricating a new neck ring (one on the right) to replace the original that is the wrong dimensions for my bike. The new one is stainless.
These clamps will get replaced with the precision anti-vibe clamps sometime in the future.

That motor was orig. going in this build, but I am saving it for my current rider.

I had concerns about doing the assembly work on this motor, but I did a lot of research and had already tore another motor down (kept the other tranny all together for reference) so I just decided to give it a try. Mock built the new tranny several time by using the old tranny and the manual as a guide. Watched the posted video several times also. Believe it it will be fine. If not it will still be fine.
Trenched the case's to allow for the "Drop In" Stoker. Froze the crank and heated the cases, crank dropped in. I know I will wish (If I have to tear apart) I had the crank Journal "clearanced"for the one crank bearing like OEM but I did not. I could have done it at work but I did not want to chance messing it up. I like the Idea of the one bearing floating. I have seen this method in other machinery applications.
I Still have the clutch, kicker and the counter balancer to install. I am going going to rebuild my own counter balancer..... OOOOOOOOO.
I really wanted this motor to be white. But the bearings were installed and and I did not want to damage (and buy new) removing them to powder. Could of base coated clear coated but my painter has health Issues. SO..
It is what it is.. HAHAHA
It is getting there.
Thanks for the Comments

Counter balancer rebuilt. Did my leak down. Failed!! :arg:Stator side seal in too far. Pulled it out ordered a new one, should be here tommorrow. I used a metric caliper and misread it. (I will use the lip on the ESR adapter plate to be the depth gauge this time.)

Powder coated carbs. Going with the white the other is eastwoods chrome. i used the reflective chrome and will powder over the chrome (just the bowl and cap) with anodized red  and if i like it I will use it on the white PWK 39mm.Should set it off.

Still have a few items to finish up. The red tank is just temporary until my white desert tank is ready.
Still have to install the skid plates, and some other "thing's". But it fires right up and rides good. Really like the geometry of the USD fork conversion. Gives the bike a better "feel". Of course the modern suspension is nice.

Well I have it broke in but still need to do the plug chop for the jetting.
Here is what I think.
1)Love the inverted forks and the way it changed the handling
2)Love the overall ride
3)Love the low end torque of the stroker
4)Love the steering dapener
5)Love my wife for putting up with me spending the money! I told her I built me a big new gal with BIG HEADLIGHTS and A WIDE BACKSIDE!! She basicaly said it did not matter because I was too old to do the new gal any good either!! OUCH!!!!
I built this bike for the purpose of hauling a 275 lb old man around like it was a big red or a 350x. I called Eddie and told him what I wanted as far as what I wanted the motor to do. He gave me his recommendation and he hit it spot on for me.
Is it real fast? no its not. But is fast enough for me? Yea, plenty and then some. I can lug it around in tight corners in second gear with my 13/38 gearing and 20's no problem. And this is with the cr ignition and believe me this is a very heavy bike without me on it. So i wanted to check and see how it done with 22's. I put a new set on it. Same result lugging it around in tight corners in 2 nd gear. Im happy! Took the 22' off and put the 20's back on going to buy a 14 sprocket for some more top end, just because.

22 on a 10 inch rim
I also have a set of 18's for the back and a 21 for the front for later use.

After riding this for a awhile now i have decided to make a few changes. (as soon as money allows).
Going to go with CR forks. Going to have the shock rebuilt.
2 Tanks, OEM shrouds, fork guards will be painted. New big bore pipe. Functional aux electrics and still use an unmodified CR ignition

Looks good Tony, might try a stock ignition again for lights they aren't bad to start at all on the big bores.

Thanks for the Input
i have a stock ignition, but like the improved response of the CR. I already have the aux. electrics worked out. Just need to putt a battery and and make the wiring harness.
