Well after my ktm/cr500 build turned out to be a big mistake I sold the engine and started a ktm/trx250r build, after fitting the engine swingarm mount and bottom mounts I had my local mod shop fab the front engine mounts and a fatty pipe made to fit the chassis, after putting 10 hours on it and not being able to take the smile off my face when riding it I decided its time for some more horsepower :) I contacted arlan at led preformance about building a 431 puma engine and custom exhaust and intake and he was excited to take on the build :) I found a good engine that has only been opened up once and a low hour 525xc rolling chassis to start this build fresh, arlan should be starting to work on the engine this month and then I have to ship him the chassis.
Plans for build
Engine:
-431cc CPI puma big bore kit
-led custom porting
-welded and balanced crank with ktm rod
-sling shot clutch
-cyroed and back cut tranny
-Ricky stator ignition to run lights/fan
-led exhaust and intake
-40mm billit smart carb
Chassis:
-plus 4 swing arm
-shocks ?
-all black plastics
-custom rad decals
-carbon fiber steering stem/bars/tie rods
-sx a-arms/seat/fuel tank
-presision steering damper/antivibe bar clamp
Here's some pics of the swingarm mount and front mount, I'm gonna let arlan do the bottom mounts, more pics to come

Neto! I like !

sounds cool! tell us more about the carbon fiber stem, bars and tie rods.

Holy crap this is going to be sweet. I've seen a few two-stroke KTM motors being put in their quad frames but never a 250R motor.
Don't you be giving Arlan too much work...he is supposed to be working on my Sphynx lol
-
The 431cc with the +4 swinger will still be a hand full to ride. Pretty much a dream bike for anyone. Keep us posted!!!

What size swinger do you guys run on duner pumas?
-
Very cool, always like the look of the Ktm's, and a Led Puma should make it that much better!!
-
Is this a duner bike or play/mx bike? Sick build... I was running a stock length swinger with my Saber, but its not the typical build. I was going for an MX bike with a detuned Saber.

A +4 on a puma duner feels just right. No matter what the length you will still pull wheelies in all gears. I'm runnin stock, +2 and +4 on the 400's

Thanks :) I'm gonna try to keep it for just dunes

I'm thinking the pipe is going to be the biggest challenge, i.e., routing it through a frame built for a 4 stroke.

I've had it done twice already in ktm chassis, the biggest challenge with the exhaust is coming off the cylinder their is limited space, through the frame there's lots of room

Some how someone else's pics ended up in my first post ^^^^^^^^^^^^ :s
I got some updates and pics from arlan at led, the frame is gonna have to be modified to fit the smart carb
-
i have been seeing progress pics posted on led facebook page on this build. that pipe is dead sexy! that bike is going to be sweet.
-
Looks like Arlan fixed the Puma in frame length dilemma. Mat Shearer explained to me there was to enough length on an inframe Puma pipe to let it preform the way it needs to. Arlan has added the length up front to the left side. Looks a little different than what were used to but should be a good runner

Any updates on this build?

Any updates on this build?
Last time I talked arlan he said he would need to relocate the top rear shock mount for the smart carb to fit due to having to raise the front engine mounts to better clear the chain from rubbing the swingarm, this was about 3 weeks ago

Brad Loomis is xstreamcomposites and the man that you'll be dealing with on the custom Carbon fiber parts. Great guy and loves doing custom ATV/Dirtbike etc.. Great guy and awesome to deal with he's the one that did some of my custom CF work and it turned out great!!!!!! You can't go wrong with Brad. Tell him that Keith Higginson (aka Higgy) sent ya!!!
Thanks Higgy
