Title: New maier fittment issue
Post by: Grande huevos on November 21, 2013, 11:13:48 PM
I just picked up some brand new maiers last week and overall I'm happy with them. They are very shiny they seem to fit up great where the fronts meet the rears, however they don't fit so well around my tank! There is a noticeable gap on the sides of the tank and you can see straight through.. Any ideas on how to fix this?? Maybe a cloth over them and throw a ratchet strap or somthing around them??? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Huh? I just put ones over an ims 3.6 and I raised the front mounts for a better fit. What if you lower yours?

If you squeeze the front brackets together would the hood fit better or worse?

Do you have the strap holding it together under the seat?

Did the rears come with mounts, like the little L brackets and the bar that goes in the L's from one side to the other. Im ordering mine and couldnt remember if they came with it, thank you.

Pretty much yeah. I knew they came with the L brackets (small ones) that bolt to the bottom of the fenders for the bars that runs across but I didnt know if it used a stock one or a supplied one.

Yes they came with a Velcro strap for under the seat and yes it is on and tight.

the front and rears did come with some brackets but not a support bar. I have never had uncut fronts and ive never ran a suport on any of my rear plastics before and these new ones seem to be pretty stiff and shouldnt flop around.

As for the hood in that first picture the bolts are not tightend down so yes it does pull the sides in a little for a better fit, but the hood is still a tad longer then the sides. I'm going to try and mess with the brackets this weekend and see if I can't get everything to line up better.

And no the plastics are not hitting the tank.... I will try to take some better pics to post up do you guys can see a little better. But as of now you can see the ground by looking between my plastics and the tank, it's off by quiet a bit and it will really bother me if I can't find a fix for it!!!

After thoroughly washing out your tank with soap and water, pressurize your tank with air and use a heat gun on the sides to expand the tank. You can use thick foam tape for the rest. Or you can just use foam tape by itself and forget expanding the tank. I actually can get 4 1/2 gallons in mine.

i know this isnt a fix for the issue, but a c/f tank cover would fill those gaps

Maybe install the fenders without the tank and pull them inward with duct tape over night might help?

Do you still have the OEM tank to compare the fit.  My new Maiers fit pretty snug (same as stock) with both my Clarke and OEM tanks.  Maybe the tank needs a little air and heat to push it out as suggested.
