Title: Silverlake paddle tire suggestion
Post by: croat1 on December 11, 2013, 03:21:47 AM
need some suggestions on what paddle tires to purchase for next years trips.  first bike is a Laeger framed 250r (stock length swingarm and I'm running a Duncan 275PV).  second bike is a 08 trx450er that is currently stock.  so what tires should I get?  has to be either for 8" or 9" wheels.

thanks
Joe

I run 7 paddle extreames on a well ported oem cyl and I can't hold the front end down   It's an 88 I always wanted to try some gliders. On my 450 I ran 8 paddle extreames and it was more then enough.  All these tires were on 8" rims and 21" tall

I think 8 paddles extremes would be good, Haulers would work, but probably wont last too long. My heavily ported stock cylinder beats up my haulers pretty bad. I have always run 20x10x8's. And i have rode Johaans R, those 7 paddles extremes hook good!

Never had an issue with Haulers wearing faster than Extremes or Taller Haulers but I avoid pavement as much as possible and go very slow over it.  Depends on what kind of riding you like to do.. I always enjoyed a little more traction and sidewall that a 22x11x8 setup offers.  7-8 paddles should be good with that motor.

You guys aint s**t, I have 16 paddles on my stock 250R!
HaHa I really do have 16 paddle Old Vintage Di*k Cepec 21" tires but the paddles are only 1/2" tall and are pretty flimsy but they really work pretty good on my stock 88 bike.

8 paddle haulers IMO 21-22 tall 8" rim

You're lucky. I have thrown so many paddles of haulers, and the only cement i ride is crossing the 10' wide strip to the gravel parking lot. I never had issues with my R eating paddles when it was fairly stock, but Haulers IMO are not nearly as durable or strong as extremes.

Interesting. I have 2 sets of Extremes and 2 sets of Haulers.  One set of Haulers is the original SLS triple buff carcass (8+ years old now) and no issues with the tips of the paddles.

Maybe the sand is different in OR, or maybe you just need a faster bike :quad::untroubled:

I run 20/10/10 extremes with 8 paddles and a lot of psi. I have to much traction with a 370 mx. There was a period of time 5 years ago or so when we got some warranty from skat trak for their haulers, the paddle would crack and fall off.  This happened when ridding lots more sand than just Michigan.

You guys do know if you have the aftermarket adjustable link you can lower the rear of the bike and not wheelie as much. The more level the swing arm the less wheel lift. I have always ran the adj link and use to run 10 paddle haulers with a plus 2 swing arm

Jesse, I actually will have a spare set of 20x10 haulers, they aren't the pretty(some chunks missing from 2 paddles on each tire) but its an option if no one else steps up. On rims ready to go!

Sorry I'm being to vague,  paddles cracking is different than the paddles coming off the tire. They would warranty tires that the paddle would separate from the tire (as in a glue/attachment problem) . If you are cracking the paddle (in between where it's glued and the tip)  then the tire is to old or you have to much hp. Personally my tires weren't to old so I decided to switch to extremes and have had no problems.

I can't guarantee I'll be there but I have a spare set of 10 paddle haulers that are fun to run backwards. You can go anywhere and drift like crazy but not holeshot. The banshees seemed to be the hardest on paddles. They spin more.

I'd go with a 7-8 paddle Hauler, 20x10x8, on a DWT A5 wheel. Nice traction, super light.

This is what I was running in Michigan when we met up Joe. I also ran them in Lil Sahara. No probs and I love em.
