Why didn't LRD build more of these frames?  Did they come out right before the 450s took over the race scene?

I'm not sure why LRD didn't build more of these frames? I know there's a few fitment issues. Plus they've been known to crack and break. Still even with these issues its a helleva frame! I know that some of the last ones came out in 2004! Anyway heres a fresh pic. I was installing my Cr250 ignition today!! Plus my ASV levers showed up!!!

Decent? Well its when you've got a pucker factor of about 7 or 8, but you still manage to spot your drawers with a "DECENT" amount of leakage! lol. Hows that?

Pipe problems!! Here's what I've been dealing with for the last couple of hours! Just doesn't wanna bolt up! I'm thinking of going to an exhaust shop to see if they can use a tube bender or a die on it? Its off just enough so it hits the shock mount when its bolted up. Check it out!

Nice build man, hey get with Jerry white he can take care of you pipe issue and not hurt the chrome at all. He will cut it and re angle it and all and tight it up for you bud. I think having it bent will mess up the chrome on the pipe bad man.

Yeah, I think that its something that needs to seen in person on the bike before you can make the bends/cuts! I'm not sure where jerry is, but its not too far off, just needs alittle tweeking!

Those pipes were made for stock frames, just like everything else on this bike its a struggle, but it will be worth it in the end, and I'm gettin closer everyday!! I was gonna call Arlan today, but just got carried away and the pipe is like one of the last things that you put on your bike anyway. Plus I thought I might have more questions by the end of today anyway!

So I got some more work done today, I won the 1st round and Honda won the 2nd. I got my carb and intake bolted up! The carb was tight, but it didn't hit. The rubber intake boot that connects to the carb hits the shock just a little! Then I switched to some Fast Flexx bars and hooked up the throttle cable and the Baldwin cable guide. Got my ASV front brake lever on then the shifter & Kickstarter. Tore my brake calipers apart for rebuilding and polishing and managed to break off a bolt on the rear brake mount, so tired drilling it out, but it might be a no go. We'll see tomarrow?? I may be buying a new one? Well here my 1st video I've ever taken of a build so its a little shaky, but check it out!http://s979.photobucket.com/user/543215196/media/LRD%2011/LRD11017.mp4.html

Whats up Dirtman? Yeah, I should have done my homework alittle better. It does however give me a good excuse to buy and new LED pipe, lol! Its already in the works! As for the tank mounts, I'm using the the stock tank mounts just turning them around backwards and bolting them up to the headstay mount. I'll post some pics of it soon. I think thats how its suppose to be mounted up??

Sam,
I have a temp gauge its just to big to fit, there wouldn't be any room for the actual hose, LOL!! So I need a smaller Temp Gauge like the ESR one that I have on my LOBO.  Yeah, I'm always open to ideas/options??

Sam,
I think that the fittings that I'm using are -12an for the 3/4 hose. So i don't know if that would work. I played hell getting my hoses on today, but they're on!!! I'm gonna post some pics next.

 Thanks Higgy

I added gas tank mounts to the frame. I would think the stock tank brackets will have to be modified or new ones fabed. On mine the seat pan to tank clearance was to tight so I slid my tank forward and seet back. You may want to check this before finalizing tank location. Also I lowered my rear plastic and raised the front plastic where they come together to get a clean line of alignment.

I do see some differences in your frame compared to mine so who knows.....

I'm pretty sure that my tank will bolt up now!  I'll post pics later on. However everything is a little tight. I've already had fitment issues with the plastic, tank and seat locations. As is the rear plastic and seat are super tight on the tank and the alignmnet of the plastic is a little off. I trimmed the plastic to fit better, but its still not perfect. I havent really changed any of the plastic mounting locations. I'm sure it would probably help though!! I'm curious to see the differences between your frame and mine??
 Thanks Higgy

Your build looks very good.  I just purchased a new lrd frame and nerf bars and I will start mine in the near future.  I'm not excited about all of the mods I get to do in order to use the frame but it will be good when it is done.  Great pictures.  Thanks

Ok so I don't want to be a downer but those head stays are quick to crack. I would seriously advise mounting the tank mounts to the headstay bolt holes on the outside of the frame. The added weight of the tank is not going to be good for the already undersized head stay. I reinforced my head stay and have had no issues since.

Ok, so I'm in the process of rebuilding my Laeger t-pin!! Another battle, I won the 1st round, but I'm gonna have to take the spindles into the shop to have the bearings pulled becuase I've already damaged one internal spindle bearings because I don't have the correct puller. I was thinking of buying a blind hole bearing puller, but I didn't want to fight it anymore so off to the shop it goes! They can deal with it at $75 an hr!

Ok, went to the shop and talked with the guy he had a blind hole bearing puller, not the correct size. So I went to Habor Freight and bought the this one http://www.harborfreight.com/blind-hole-bearing-puller-95987.html hopefully it works!

Well, the tool worked like it was suppose to, but I still didn't have any luck with removing the bearings. I just managed to beat up my spindles a bit. I even tried using the spreading part of the tool in the press and pushing on it with a punch and still got no love!! I think its beyond me and my abilities:fatigue:!!!

Are the spindles aluminum? Try warming them up in an oven to 200-250 F that should help loosen their grip on the bearings.

Well I finally suceeded!!! Leager spindle bearing removed I used the oven at 250 degrees for 20min and then the Blindhole bearing puller. It seemed to work better if I turned the vise facing down, so I could a little gravity and then slammed the hell out of that sliding slam hammer!! I ended up grinding out one of the bearings about 3/4 of the way and then used the puller again and it came right out!! Thanks for all the tips guys!!! Heres a few pics.

Higgy, are you aware that LRD made bumpers to match this Chassis?
I was reading a Dirt Wheels Mag from 03 and saw it advertised along with the Chassis.
I have never seen an LRD bumper before!

Duncan bumpers look the best in my opinion.

very nice work higgy! What are you using to polish them?

I'm sanding them to 400 grit, then I'm using black compound on the hard wheel and then, green compound on the soft wheel. Then when I'm satisfied with how they look, I'll wax them with Glanol.

I'm not sure I never even thought about it??? Maybe 340lbs??? Dry weight of a stock 87-89 is 324lbs . So its probably a little lighter then stock. Gas weighs 4.7 to 6.5lbs per gallon so that puts me around 340lbs, plus your other fuilds.

Higgy - here's another option if you're looking for carbon..
Dave Moore used to make the "legalizer" which was billet and carbon fiber.  I got stopped on the dunes in Florence once and passed that sound check but my buddy received a ticket with the standard ESR silencer.  He's not around anymore but you could give Modquad (http://www.modquad.com/) or DTR Racing (https://www.facebook.com/dtrsalem) as they picked up some of that stock and/or may know where to get one.  If you wanted red carbon weave, you'd just need to find the right diameter tube (since his is just a cylindrical tube).  Here's a pic on the bike:

Yeah buddy, I have one of those from Dave Moore on my Lobo, I've been down this road before about 2 years ago. The one on my Lobo is ok, but not exactly what I'm looking for. It looks a bit different then the one you've shown me. I like the mounting brackets on the one you've shown me better. Looks a little bit cleaner then mine. I appreciate the tip!!

No I don't think so. That pic is a little deceiving! I haven't measured it yet, but I'm guessing its 3/4 or 1" And the mount was already on there I just had my stem lengthened! And rechromed! Way Cheaper!!!

Do me a HUGE favour and measure those O-rings for the Monoballs & the bushings - PLEASE!!!!

I need to replace mine and it would be silly for me to Order them from LAEGER & have them shipped to CANADA.

Also, I can UPDATE these sizes in the "How to rebuild a T-pin Spindle" in the Technical Section of this site.

Thank you

Your quad is coming along very nice.  I hoping to start my Attitude build soon.  I've got the new attitude frame/never used and the never used nerf bars.  I have a great starter quad to begin the build.  I may ride the quad as is in St. Anthony before I begin the build. I may ask you a few questions along the way.  Keep up the good work.  Good looking quad.

What's that master cylinder setup from? Cool build!
Its from a CRF 450. I think they're the same from like 2003-2013, but don't quote me on that.

Does the master Cylinder bolt onto the frame in the stock location? And the plunger needs to be swapped out for the stock trx  correct?

No it won't bolt up to the stock holes. You have to either build an adapter plate or weld new mounting tabs onto your frame! As for the plunger, when you relocate the mastercylinder that should make the plunger long enough, hopefully. All this is from research I've done and people that I've talked to. I haven't actually mounted one of these yet. However I'll know first hand here real soon.
 Thanks Higgy

Not that I know of? Its just a cool mod. they do this on some aftermarket frames. It also eliminates the need for the external rez and makes for a cleaner look. plus you can buy some cool billet accessories, lol!

Build is coming along nicely! I'm sure you've thought of this or even tried it but if you turn the master cylinder 180*, does it fit behind that m/c guard? Just looking at it, it looks like the bracket you made would still work. Just a thought.

Lol, good call!! I guess I didn't think of mounting it backwards? I'll have to make a new mount, but it will look way cleaner!! Sometimes it just takes an extra eye to point out the obvious!! Check it out!

This thing fought me all day today!!! I got my front brakes bled, no luck with the rears so far?? I got my hyd. clutch lever mounted and the cable on, but I need a new slave cylinder before I can finish the clutch. I tried to put my chain on and adjust it, but it hit the front chain guard, then I didn't have the right masterlink, and then its right inbetween on the length so it looks like a half link is needed, which I won't use, because they're weak!! SO I may need a new sprocket, in the rear?

From the looks of it the rear hipers are 8"? Would you be interested In trading for 9" hipers red ring also. And I have 19" holeshot tires on them. Barely used, they actually came off Jason Moore's black and red 250r. Getting into racing and been looking for 18" tires on 8" wheels. Let me know if your interested

Higgy is having me make a new grill for this build. Had to do some revese engineering and build the grill backwards. Old grill on top and new one below. The steering stem was hitting the grill. So there is a notch at the very top in the middle.

Not that I know of? Its just a cool mod. they do this on some aftermarket frames. It also eliminates the need for the external rez and makes for a cleaner look. plus you can buy some cool billet accessories, lol!
 Thanks Higgy

Has anyone done this CRF Mod using a Stock OEM frame by chance??

It would be the same set up. The mounts are in the same place as a stock frame, so you just have to build an adapter, which is pretty easy. However I can't seem to get my brakes to work very well. They work, but they're real spongy!! So I'm gonna switch back to the stock setup. I have a new custom mount comming from Jermey Nelson at NPM!!

Bike is so clean!  Super nice build higgy!  Ridiculous is a better word and anyone who remotely likes these bikes should be insanely jealous.  All you need now is a decent frame.  That "LRD" cough cough cough cough bicycle company ahhhchew excuse me built frame cough cough should fetch a pretty penny at the recyclers. ;). Again, super sick bike and I hope that I can get penned in your will for that lobo. Lol

Good for you man, that is dedication and not letting "the man" take anything from you.

At silver there is a paralyzed rider, literally rides with one hand on bars and the other on an extended shifter. Crazy

Click on most of these and they'll enlarge so you can get a great look at this beast, lol! She needs a longer swingarm next. That front end is all over the place, lol!! It just wants to be airborne and that was with wornout old Skat-TRAK Wedges!! Keeps ya on your toes though!! Helleva pucker factor, probabaly about a solid 7 until I extend that swinger about another 4". Then it should be perfect for the treeshots and the trails. Not sure if it will be long enough for serious drag racing, but we've got Puma for that with a 6" over already. Is that gonna be enough for the Puma? Who knows we shall see. Gnight R Fanatics!!!

I'm running the elusive LRD Dogbone if I remember there's a little difference between the 2 dogbones one is just a little longer then the other, but I figured if its an LRD DogBone it should probably be ran on this LRD Bike!!  I'm running the elusive LRD Dogbone if I remember there's a little difference between the 2 dogbones one is just a little longer then the other, but I figured if its an LRD DogBone it should probably be ran on this LRD Bike!! Coincidentally I just might know where to find I just might know where to get you one brand new LRD Dogbone if ur interested?
Thanks Higgy

Ya,i already have the dog bone, but thinks anyway. It turns out the 88`89 dog bone is 6in eye to eye.The lrd is 6.5 and i think the 86`87 is 6 and three quarters.Ive been running the 88`89 on a pep zps and its never been right. It turns out theres a discrepensie in in my frame compared to my brothers stock 89 frame.Ive been doing some measurements to get a rear shock built fro Andy,i was half an inch longer from my linkage mount to the dogbone mount than my bros frame.Which in turn wouldnt allow my frame sit an inch and half off the ground. The bolts from the linkage would come up and hit the bottom of the swingarm. So i just tried putting on the lrd one to see if it would help and it did.Anyway the bike looks forkin awesome. Will have to meet up down there at winchester or spinreel sometime soon.

Ohhh yeah she runs!! She runs strong, hella fun to ride. In 4th gear just cruzing I can grab a handful of throttle and she'll stand straight up on ya! You'll luv going for a rip on this bike! I'll probably have to peel ya off of her you'll like it so much!!! I'll see if I can make it to Silverlake next year, we'll see? I'm gonna have to find a trailer and a ride out there if I'm gonna come out, this next year?
Thanks Higgy

I was asking you Tony whatta you think would be the ideal length of the swingarm on this bike. Between 2 and 4" will work, but which is gonna be the best bang for my buck? 2" would help but would still wheelie a lot comming outta the tree shots or any place else for that matter. +4" may be to much I wanna be able to keep that power to the ground, but I also like to wheelie to. Its just finding that perfect length. So whatta you think do I go in the middle with a plus 3" or just put that +4 on there???
Thanks Higgy

Hey Higgy I been following your build and it's quite a work of art you've put together there!  I'm sure the pictures do the bike no justice, it probably looks 100x better in person!

With that kind of power plant, I would run the +4 swingarm, I don't think a +2 is going to keep your nose down.  I run a +4 on my 420BB and my front end barely stays down and I'm 290lbs..

Big_Mike,
Yeah you got 100 lbs on me to. 420cc is quite a bit more motor too though. I'm thinking that you're right though. I still wanna be able to actually turn around at the bottom of the treeshots and ride the trails. The longer you go the harder it is to get that thang to dance around the trees and in and outta the whoop sections and banked trails. if its too long it just wants to go straight and thats about it!!, lol! Hopefully +4 is the sweetspot!!
 Thanks HIggy

+4 is perfect +6 would would be nice also. All depends if you have the room on your trailer. Does not matter what length of swinger you use, the front end will always be in the air.

Come on somebody else chime in on the length of a swing arm that I should run? Its an LED 350 and I weigth about 195 lbs. I'm running at 14/38 gearing and I have the LRD dogbone which is 6 1/2" long.
 Thanks Higgy

JohnnyFive,
I just went out and measured my dogbones and I too was running the 6 3/4 dogbone before I switched to the LRD dogbone. If your linkage was hitting the swingarm then you obviously had the wrong dogbone on there. What year is your frame, because the LRD dogbones were made for the 88/89 bikes. When you say that you were a half inch longer from the linkage mount to the dogbone mount then your bros bike. Do you mean the dogbone mount on your swingarm? Could you guys possibly have different swingarms or you may have just been running the wrong dogbone. If the LRD Dogbone fixed all your problems then I'd just run that dogbone!!!
 Thanks Higgy

I've ran +4 to +8's on dune bikes.  And always liked the +4's the best.  The bike still feels agile and comfortable catching a little air.  I wouldn't rule out a +6 but I'm still more comfortable on a +4.  +8 just feels too long for a dune bike.

I think you'll be okay with 86-87 length. I run my LED 350 sphynx with 88-89 length, this is mostly in the woods of course. Maybe if you had a Puma you could go +4

I run a plus 3 over 86-87 length on 363 sphinx.  Still handles well but has a little extra length when you want to drag or hit the tree hills

I was running the 88 89 dogbone which is 6in
.That's when the linkage bolts hit.So I put the lrd dog bone on tonight and now it doesn't.So ya I think that's what I need to run.It turns out that the linkage mount on the sits back a half an inch further toward the motor than the oem frame.
