Ok I'll start posting some Pics of my LRD/LED attitude build. I just got my CR250r ignition and the adapeter plate showed up in the mail yesterday! So after about 17 months of storage I'm gonna get going on this project again!!
Heres a link as well: http://s979.photobucket.com/user/543215196/library/LRD%208

Holy hell that thing is sick!!

Engine size/specs? I don't know why but I love the color of that frame lol. Keep this thread updated I look forward to seeing the progress
-
Wow, just wow!!
-
Tbone07, the engine is an LED built 350 sphynx, ported and polished, piston mod, Yukon gears, trued & welded crank, 41.50mm PWK carb, lockup clutch, hinson clutch kit and basket 89 updates, V-force 3 reeds, LED intake w/K&N, Cr250r ignition, LRD Bigbore Pipe!! Should make some decent HP!
Thanks Higgy
-
I want that motor! Nice build higgy
-
Really nice man
-
Why didn't LRD build more of these frames? Did they come out right before the 450s took over the race scene?

I'm not sure why LRD didn't build more of these frames? I know there's a few fitment issues. Plus they've been known to crack and break. Still even with these issues its a helleva frame! I know that some of the last ones came out in 2004! Anyway heres a fresh pic. I was installing my Cr250 ignition today!! Plus my ASV levers showed up!!!

Decent? Well its when you've got a pucker factor of about 7 or 8, but you still manage to spot your drawers with a "DECENT" amount of leakage! lol. Hows that?
Thanks Higgy

LMAO! Very well spoken Professor Higgins!

Pipe problems!! Here's what I've been dealing with for the last couple of hours! Just doesn't wanna bolt up! I'm thinking of going to an exhaust shop to see if they can use a tube bender or a die on it? Its off just enough so it hits the shock mount when its bolted up. Check it out!

So on another note Tony's coil mount ended working great!!!! So I got my coil mounted today! I'm still wondering if I should run that ground to the Radiator mount as reccomended last night??

Sure, I'll just need an LRD or LED cover to replace it with!
Thanks Higgy!

Nice build man, hey get with Jerry white he can take care of you pipe issue and not hurt the chrome at all. He will cut it and re angle it and all and tight it up for you bud. I think having it bent will mess up the chrome on the pipe bad man.

Yeah, I think that its something that needs to seen in person on the bike before you can make the bends/cuts! I'm not sure where jerry is, but its not too far off, just needs alittle tweeking!
Thanks Higgy!

that grab bar is sweet! is it carbon fiber?

Yep, custom made RED Weave Carbonfiber. A guy on the forum made it for me about 2 1/2 yrs ago! Can't remember who did it??
Thanks Higgy!

That's really wierd. Maybe talk to Arlan about it before you go cutting up that beautiful pipe? Hard to imagine an LRD pipe not fitting the LRD frame lol

Those pipes were made for stock frames, just like everything else on this bike its a struggle, but it will be worth it in the end, and I'm gettin closer everyday!! I was gonna call Arlan today, but just got carried away and the pipe is like one of the last things that you put on your bike anyway. Plus I thought I might have more questions by the end of today anyway!
Thanks Higgy

So I got some more work done today, I won the 1st round and Honda won the 2nd. I got my carb and intake bolted up! The carb was tight, but it didn't hit. The rubber intake boot that connects to the carb hits the shock just a little! Then I switched to some Fast Flexx bars and hooked up the throttle cable and the Baldwin cable guide. Got my ASV front brake lever on then the shifter & Kickstarter. Tore my brake calipers apart for rebuilding and polishing and managed to break off a bolt on the rear brake mount, so tired drilling it out, but it might be a no go. We'll see tomarrow?? I may be buying a new one? Well here my 1st video I've ever taken of a build so its a little shaky, but check it out!http://s979.photobucket.com/user/543215196/media/LRD%2011/LRD11017.mp4.html

Looking good and so much closer man to a finished product.
-
Well, I'm to the point now where all I can do is some polishing and then buy some parts to finish things up. I've bolted up everything I had. So now I'm taking things back apart to do some more polshing, lol!
Its never ending!

Headed in to LED today to see Arlan, I'm gonna get a new pipe made that better suits by motor!!!! I got a few parts in the mail today I'll post some pics tomarrow! I'm gonna polish my radiator up and get my steel braided lines and chrome hose clamps all mounted up hopefully this weekend!!! Got all my parts mailed off to Dave @ Race-Reflections yesterday so I'll get those on the bike here soon! Just trying to get this beast together!

The pipe fits fine on pro-x cylinders. What are you going to do for gas tank mounts?

Great, you just had to mention that! Now there's something else I'm gonna want! I had forgotten all about titanium hardware, lol!

Whats up Dirtman? Yeah, I should have done my homework alittle better. It does however give me a good excuse to buy and new LED pipe, lol! Its already in the works! As for the tank mounts, I'm using the the stock tank mounts just turning them around backwards and bolting them up to the headstay mount. I'll post some pics of it soon. I think thats how its suppose to be mounted up??
Thanks Higgy
-
So got the radiator polished up today. I forgot how much work it was polishing!! So I'm pretty happy with it, but its not perfect. I'll be able to get my radiator hoses on tomarrow I think. I might have to order a new tempurature gage though?

Higgy, where did you purchase that hose from?
Looks good by the way!
-
Higgy let me look...I might have an areoquip fitting for -8 with a 1/8" pipe fitting. It was for a fuel gauge...
Looks freaking amazing man!!

Sam,
I have a temp gauge its just to big to fit, there wouldn't be any room for the actual hose, LOL!! So I need a smaller Temp Gauge like the ESR one that I have on my LOBO. Yeah, I'm always open to ideas/options??
Thanks Higgy
-
Could just use this and get 2 more AN fittings and use that gauge you have.(http://i1347.photobucket.com/albums/p701/samw450r/20131229_132711_zps73ef57cf.jpg)

Sam,
I think that the fittings that I'm using are -12an for the 3/4 hose. So i don't know if that would work. I played hell getting my hoses on today, but they're on!!! I'm gonna post some pics next.
Thanks Higgy

So I finally got my radiator hoses on, what a pain in the ass!!! Nothing on this bike goes togeher easily!! There's always an issue! I've been learning patience this whole build, lol! So I also got my killswitch mounted and my igniton wiring, coil and Cdi mounted up pretty cleanly. I think it will work. Link http://s979.photobucket.com/user/543215196/library/LRD%2013

I added gas tank mounts to the frame. I would think the stock tank brackets will have to be modified or new ones fabed. On mine the seat pan to tank clearance was to tight so I slid my tank forward and seet back. You may want to check this before finalizing tank location. Also I lowered my rear plastic and raised the front plastic where they come together to get a clean line of alignment.
-
I do see some differences in your frame compared to mine so who knows.....

I'm pretty sure that my tank will bolt up now! I'll post pics later on. However everything is a little tight. I've already had fitment issues with the plastic, tank and seat locations. As is the rear plastic and seat are super tight on the tank and the alignmnet of the plastic is a little off. I trimmed the plastic to fit better, but its still not perfect. I havent really changed any of the plastic mounting locations. I'm sure it would probably help though!! I'm curious to see the differences between your frame and mine??

Alright more parts for the Chromer and for me to Polish up!!! I also have to get new Heim joints and a new bushing for one of my spindles. I should probably just do both now while they're apart!

Your build looks very good. I just purchased a new lrd frame and nerf bars and I will start mine in the near future. I'm not excited about all of the mods I get to do in order to use the frame but it will be good when it is done. Great pictures. Thanks
-
Looking good man, to many mods for the parts to fit the frame doesn't sound like much fun to me.
-
Ok so I don't want to be a downer but those head stays are quick to crack. I would seriously advise mounting the tank mounts to the headstay bolt holes on the outside of the frame. The added weight of the tank is not going to be good for the already undersized head stay. I reinforced my head stay and have had no issues since.

Dirtman,
I like to see how yours is setup! It would be great if you could possibly snap a few photos for me????
Thanks Higgy
-
Give me some time. I'm gone on vacation for the next week.
-
Ok, so I'm in the process of rebuilding my Laeger t-pin!! Another battle, I won the 1st round, but I'm gonna have to take the spindles into the shop to have the bearings pulled becuase I've already damaged one internal spindle bearings because I don't have the correct puller. I was thinking of buying a blind hole bearing puller, but I didn't want to fight it anymore so off to the shop it goes! They can deal with it at $75 an hr!

this is going to be the ultimate machine.

Ok, went to the shop and talked with the guy he had a blind hole bearing puller, not the correct size. So I went to Habor Freight and bought the this one http://www.harborfreight.com/blind-hole-bearing-puller-95987.html hopefully it works!

That thing looks sweet! great price too....you shouldn't have a problem using that.....just make sure the housing is securely mounted in the vise before you start sliding that hammer :)
Good Luck

I've have one of those and use the crap out of it.
-
Well, the tool worked like it was suppose to, but I still didn't have any luck with removing the bearings. I just managed to beat up my spindles a bit. I even tried using the spreading part of the tool in the press and pushing on it with a punch and still got no love!! I think its beyond me and my abilities:fatigue:!!!
Thanks Higgy

Are the spindles aluminum? Try warming them up in an oven to 200-250 F that should help loosen their grip on the bearings.

Thanks, I'm gonna give it another shot this weekend, I may end up grinding them out if the heat doesn't work. We'll see wish me luck!!!

Well I finally suceeded!!! Leager spindle bearing removed I used the oven at 250 degrees for 20min and then the Blindhole bearing puller. It seemed to work better if I turned the vise facing down, so I could a little gravity and then slammed the hell out of that sliding slam hammer!! I ended up grinding out one of the bearings about 3/4 of the way and then used the puller again and it came right out!! Thanks for all the tips guys!!! Heres a few pics.

looks real nice Higgy...
you need a protrax clamp!!!!
-
Higgy, are you aware that LRD made bumpers to match this Chassis?
I was reading a Dirt Wheels Mag from 03 and saw it advertised along with the Chassis.
I have never seen an LRD bumper before!
Duncan bumpers look the best in my opinion.
This build is awesome, keep the pics coming!
Thanks, Blake

I remember when I did mine.. it really completes the look. I was surprised at how little re-polishing they needed at the end of the season.
-
very nice work higgy! What are you using to polish them?
I'm sanding them to 400 grit, then I'm using black compound on the hard wheel and then, green compound on the soft wheel. Then when I'm satisfied with how they look, I'll wax them with Glanol.
Thanks Higgy

Looking good man, where did you say you picked up your buffing machine and wheels bud. Text me and let me know please. Thanks and keep up the polishing being baby bling.

Realistically I've probably got about 5hrs into the spindles. It was suppose to be a duner, but I won't be able to ride it legally in the dunes until I have a Drivers license again!

what do you speculate the wet weight to be?
john
I'm not sure I never even thought about it??? Maybe 340lbs??? Dry weight of a stock 87-89 is 324lbs . So its probably a little lighter then stock. Gas weighs 4.7 to 6.5lbs per gallon so that puts me around 340lbs, plus your other fuilds.
Thanks Higgy

Higgy - here's another option if you're looking for carbon..
Dave Moore used to make the "legalizer" which was billet and carbon fiber. I got stopped on the dunes in Florence once and passed that sound check but my buddy received a ticket with the standard ESR silencer. He's not around anymore but you could give Modquad (http://www.modquad.com/) or DTR Racing (https://www.facebook.com/dtrsalem) as they picked up some of that stock and/or may know where to get one. If you wanted red carbon weave, you'd just need to find the right diameter tube (since his is just a cylindrical tube). Here's a pic on the bike:

Yeah buddy, I have one of those from Dave Moore on my Lobo, I've been down this road before about 2 years ago. The one on my Lobo is ok, but not exactly what I'm looking for. It looks a bit different then the one you've shown me. I like the mounting brackets on the one you've shown me better. Looks a little bit cleaner then mine. I appreciate the tip!!

Nice, I should've asked for the stabilizer mount also. Is your stem more than the 3/4-1" forward?

No I don't think so. That pic is a little deceiving! I haven't measured it yet, but I'm guessing its 3/4 or 1" And the mount was already on there I just had my stem lengthened! And rechromed! Way Cheaper!!!
Thanks Higgy

Higgy
Do me a HUGE favour and measure those O-rings for the Monoballs & the bushings - PLEASE!!!!
I need to replace mine and it would be silly for me to Order them from LAEGER & have them shipped to CANADA.
Also, I can UPDATE these sizes in the "How to rebuild a T-pin Spindle" in the Technical Section of this site.
Thank you
:)

What's that master cylinder setup from? Cool build!
-
Your quad is coming along very nice. I hoping to start my Attitude build soon. I've got the new attitude frame/never used and the never used nerf bars. I have a great starter quad to begin the build. I may ride the quad as is in St. Anthony before I begin the build. I may ask you a few questions along the way. Keep up the good work. Good looking quad.

Its from a CRF 450. I think they're the same from like 2003-2013, but don't quote me on that.
Thanks Higgy
-
dude, I cant wait to see this thing done! its gonna :band:
-
Does the master Cylinder bolt onto the frame in the stock location? And the plunger needs to be swapped out for the stock trx correct?

Does the master Cylinder bolt onto the frame in the stock location? And the plunger needs to be swapped out for the stock trx correct?
No it won't bolt up to the stock holes. You have to either build an adapter plate or weld new mounting tabs onto your frame! As for the plunger, when you relocate the mastercylinder that should make the plunger long enough, hopefully. All this is from research I've done and people that I've talked to. I haven't actually mounted one of these yet. However I'll know first hand here real soon.
Thanks Higgy

Is this for better pressure?
-
Is this for better pressure?
Not that I know of? Its just a cool mod. they do this on some aftermarket frames. It also eliminates the need for the external rez and makes for a cleaner look. plus you can buy some cool billet accessories, lol!
Thanks Higgy

Build is coming along nicely! I'm sure you've thought of this or even tried it but if you turn the master cylinder 180*, does it fit behind that m/c guard? Just looking at it, it looks like the bracket you made would still work. Just a thought.

Lol, good call!! I guess I didn't think of mounting it backwards? I'll have to make a new mount, but it will look way cleaner!! Sometimes it just takes an extra eye to point out the obvious!! Check it out!

I really like that rear master cylinder. Its so clean. I don't know how I feel about using it for MX or TT. I much rather have that extra fluid.
-
ive been waiting for more pics man.. this bike is unbelievable!! cant wait to see it in the end
-
WOW, this build is absolutely insane man! I need to start checking this site more. I knew you had something going on but had no idea that it was this cool.
-
That thing is NICE! Do. you plan on riding it?
-
Thanks guys! Yes I plan on ridding this, but it always stays much cleaner in the garage, lol! I'll ride the chit outta of it when its done! I can always rebuild and repolish it!!
Thanks Higgy

now that's ^^ the spirit! Hig, they do make resi extenders for that rear master if the need ever arises, although Im not sure it will
-
So I had a little luck with my rear bearing carrier today and I was able to get the rear caliper on.

Higgy87trx425 What kind of caliper is that?

Its a ATV innovation rear caliper. Pretty hard to find now days. And when you do find them get ready to dish out some dough. I haven't seen one for sale in awhile

Old School. It looks like a good fit for Higgy's build though.

Higgs is old school for sure! Check out that double tape deck radio!

I might race it at a local track once or twice, but she's basically a dunner!
Thanks Higgy
-
man i wana see a video of this thing ridin around. unbelievable bike bro
-
This thing fought me all day today!!! I got my front brakes bled, no luck with the rears so far?? I got my hyd. clutch lever mounted and the cable on, but I need a new slave cylinder before I can finish the clutch. I tried to put my chain on and adjust it, but it hit the front chain guard, then I didn't have the right masterlink, and then its right inbetween on the length so it looks like a half link is needed, which I won't use, because they're weak!! SO I may need a new sprocket, in the rear?

Sweet! I tell you what those damn TM chain sliders always mess up my gearing and chain adjustment. They are nice but are too tall when new.

From the looks of it the rear hipers are 8"? Would you be interested In trading for 9" hipers red ring also. And I have 19" holeshot tires on them. Barely used, they actually came off Jason Moore's black and red 250r. Getting into racing and been looking for 18" tires on 8" wheels. Let me know if your interested

Higgy is having me make a new grill for this build. Had to do some revese engineering and build the grill backwards. Old grill on top and new one below. The steering stem was hitting the grill. So there is a notch at the very top in the middle.

She's looking good Puma!!! I may actually ride this bike sometime this summer! With any luck I'll have both builds come together at the same time!!!

Not that I know of? Its just a cool mod. they do this on some aftermarket frames. It also eliminates the need for the external rez and makes for a cleaner look. plus you can buy some cool billet accessories, lol!
Thanks Higgy
Has anyone done this CRF Mod using a Stock OEM frame by chance??
-
heel guards are cool. i would ditch the nerfs and keep the heel guards.
john
-
Higgy is having me make a new grill for this build. Had to do some revese engineering and build the grill backwards. Old grill on top and new one below. The steering stem was hitting the grill. So there is a notch at the very top in the middle.
Looking great Higgy!!
Tony will you be making more of the grills?
-
You'll love those pegs. I never thought that 4 rows would be needed. I had the typical roll pegs and switched to the lrd pegs and like them a lot more.
-
Higgerson, Your bike is a work of art. Those heel guards don't go with those nerf bars. That's my opinion.
-
Thanks guys, my chrome should be in next week, this bike should be running within the next month!! A few odds and ends and I'll be doin some heat cycles and then putting her on Arlan's dyno!!! Stay tuned for more pics!!
Thanks Higgy
-
Has anyone done this CRF Mod using a Stock OEM frame by chance??
It would be the same set up. The mounts are in the same place as a stock frame, so you just have to build an adapter, which is pretty easy. However I can't seem to get my brakes to work very well. They work, but they're real spongy!! So I'm gonna switch back to the stock setup. I have a new custom mount comming from Jermey Nelson at NPM!!
Thanks Higgy
-
Bike is so clean! Super nice build higgy! Ridiculous is a better word and anyone who remotely likes these bikes should be insanely jealous. All you need now is a decent frame. That "LRD" cough cough cough cough bicycle company ahhhchew excuse me built frame cough cough should fetch a pretty penny at the recyclers. ;). Again, super sick bike and I hope that I can get penned in your will for that lobo. Lol
-
So sweet Higgy! You have gone above and beyond on every little detail. Definitely one of the nicest R builds I have seen.
I am with ytman on the heel guards tho. Oh and that carbon silencer turned out great!
-
Thanks guys, I saw how these frames crack and break first hand it the dunes last weekend! So I think that Imma ride it this summer and pull it apart this winter to make the nessesary gussets to strengthen the frame.
Thanks Higgy.
-
Here's a before pic of my Puma cylinder after platting.
-
I got t-boned by a truck in my LRD and the only thing that broke on the frame was the front fender bolt snapped off taking a pice of the frame with it
-
Damm I'd say you got pretty lucky! I saw how they crack and break next to the rear shock mount and on the down tubes next to the rear shock mount. Then the head stay mount is garbage as well and needs to be reinforced.
-
well not so lucky as i had half my leg amputated but oh well im not going to let that stop me from riding lol
-
well not so lucky as i had half my leg amputated but oh well im not going to let that stop me from riding lol
Good for you man, that is dedication and not letting "the man" take anything from you.
At silver there is a paralyzed rider, literally rides with one hand on bars and the other on an extended shifter. Crazy
-
First off gotta say, that's awesome Mandom!! Good for you man!!
Next, is this guy at Silver paralyzed due to the EMT's response time? A few will understand...
-
Thanks guys 250Rs are my life therapy lol
-
Lol, Silverlake EMT's all badddd!
-
mandom250r that's awesome that you keep at it and don't give up what you love doin!!!
-
Yea i love them and the best thing is that almost no one here in El Paso knows what a 250r is lol. Im buying parts to fix it so when i have my surgery in august and get to wear my prosthetic again i can be ready to ride. hey higgy is there a reason why you powdered your frame? Im thinking of powdering mine but i kinda like the original aluminum look.
-
My frame actually came powder coated this color. The guy that I bought it from had this done and it was fresh so I just stuck with it! I still woulda either powder coated it anyway! Well that is if I didn't polish it, lol!
Thanks Higgy
-
ha ha, guess who came across some more rare LRD parts!!
Thanks Higgy!!
-
I told ya those bumpers existed! Lol
-
All the rumors are true!!
Thanks Higgy

All the rumors are true!!

Why isn't that cylinder polished yet?

Ok gentlemen first off I gotta send a BIG SHOUT OUT to ESR and Eddie Sanders personally!!! He sold me a part that he doesn't normally sell and charged me less then what we had discussed!! Thanks Eddie!! Its people like this that are keeping our old dinosaurs alive!

-
Yes this such a awesome build!
-
Ok so we're getttin down to the nitty gritty now. Only a few lings left on the check list! Heres an update and some fresh pics. The bike runs hard and I took her on her virgin ride down at Sandlake about 3 weeks ago, and after a few minor coolant leaks we were in biz!!! This motor pulls super hard and loves being riddin in the powder band!! I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of my standard throttle and just replacing it with a toggle switch?? ha ha!! I think that's probably gonna be my best bet, lol!! Whatta yall think?? Pics comming next!
Thanks Higgy

Check out the translucient red plastic behind the holes on the LRD front bumper!! Pretty trick huh, thats a Higgy original, lol. I hope you enjoy these pics as much as I did building this bike!! We only have a few more parts to go and this baby will technically be considered completed!!!
Thanks Higgy
-
Click on most of these and they'll enlarge so you can get a great look at this beast, lol! She needs a longer swingarm next. That front end is all over the place, lol!! It just wants to be airborne and that was with wornout old Skat-TRAK Wedges!! Keeps ya on your toes though!! Helleva pucker factor, probabaly about a solid 7 until I extend that swinger about another 4". Then it should be perfect for the treeshots and the trails. Not sure if it will be long enough for serious drag racing, but we've got Puma for that with a 6" over already. Is that gonna be enough for the Puma? Who knows we shall see. Gnight R Fanatics!!!
Thanks Higgy
-
Hey Higgy,What's cracking? The builds looking harass! We've talked a few years ago.I'm the guy that was doing a attitude build as well. What are you running for the linkage?86-87 dogbone 88-89 dog bone or the elusive lrd dogbone( lol) ?Curious, because I'm trying to get a rear shock set up and exploring my options?Any hell would be much appreciated.
-
Quad of the moth is cool, but I'm goin for Quad of the year!! QOTM=Cool, QOTY= Notorious!!!
Thanks Higgy
these Pics are badass and show your work off very well......but if you want QOTY, you need better background, take some shots in the dunes or grass, so it can be in a calendar, because its defiantly a calendar cover shot quad, just need the right backdrop
-
Very very nice. I couldn't even imagine what you got into it. I'd be afraid to ride it, but I would.
-

What up Johnny Five,
I'm running the elusive LRD Dogbone if I remember there's a little difference between the 2 dogbones one is just a little longer then the other, but I figured if its an LRD DogBone it should probably be ran on this LRD Bike!! Coincidentally I just might know where to find I just might know where to get you one brand new LRD Dogbone if ur interested?
Thanks Higgy

DnB_Racing,
Yeah these are just garage pics. When its completely done I'll take some pics out in the yard or in the dunes. I'll get some really nice ones, when she's finished!!! These are just update pics. I may even get a photographer out here for the final ones!!
Thanks Higgy
-
ya a photo shoot with a hot model??? LOL
the quad will win a cover spot for sure as long as the background is worthy . I would hire a pro for a few photos if I was you, and then send the pics to magazines

Ya,i already have the dog bone, but thinks anyway. It turns out the 88`89 dog bone is 6in eye to eye.The lrd is 6.5 and i think the 86`87 is 6 and three quarters.Ive been running the 88`89 on a pep zps and its never been right. It turns out theres a discrepensie in in my frame compared to my brothers stock 89 frame.Ive been doing some measurements to get a rear shock built fro Andy,i was half an inch longer from my linkage mount to the dogbone mount than my bros frame.Which in turn wouldnt allow my frame sit an inch and half off the ground. The bolts from the linkage would come up and hit the bottom of the swingarm. So i just tried putting on the lrd one to see if it would help and it did.Anyway the bike looks forkin awesome. Will have to meet up down there at winchester or spinreel sometime soon.
-
Nice higgy. I like the way the graphics blend the color combo. Well done.
-
She needs a longer swingarm next. That front end is all over the place, lol!! Thanks Higgy
What size swinger now? How much for it? I'm looking for +2 or +4
-
But does it run? I'm sure it's pretty slow huh higgy? Lol. Beautiful build man. I expect this and the lobo at silver next yr
-
Ohhh yeah she runs!! She runs strong, hella fun to ride. In 4th gear just cruzing I can grab a handful of throttle and she'll stand straight up on ya! You'll luv going for a rip on this bike! I'll probably have to peel ya off of her you'll like it so much!!! I'll see if I can make it to Silverlake next year, we'll see? I'm gonna have to find a trailer and a ride out there if I'm gonna come out, this next year?
Thanks Higgy
-

I was asking you Tony whatta you think would be the ideal length of the swingarm on this bike. Between 2 and 4" will work, but which is gonna be the best bang for my buck? 2" would help but would still wheelie a lot comming outta the tree shots or any place else for that matter. +4" may be to much I wanna be able to keep that power to the ground, but I also like to wheelie to. Its just finding that perfect length. So whatta you think do I go in the middle with a plus 3" or just put that +4 on there???
Thanks Higgy
-
Hey Higgy I been following your build and it's quite a work of art you've put together there! I'm sure the pictures do the bike no justice, it probably looks 100x better in person!
With that kind of power plant, I would run the +4 swingarm, I don't think a +2 is going to keep your nose down. I run a +4 on my 420BB and my front end barely stays down and I'm 290lbs..
-
Big_Mike,
Yeah you got 100 lbs on me to. 420cc is quite a bit more motor too though. I'm thinking that you're right though. I still wanna be able to actually turn around at the bottom of the treeshots and ride the trails. The longer you go the harder it is to get that thang to dance around the trees and in and outta the whoop sections and banked trails. if its too long it just wants to go straight and thats about it!!, lol! Hopefully +4 is the sweetspot!!
Thanks HIggy
-
+4 is perfect +6 would would be nice also. All depends if you have the room on your trailer. Does not matter what length of swinger you use, the front end will always be in the air.
-
Come on somebody else chime in on the length of a swing arm that I should run? Its an LED 350 and I weigth about 195 lbs. I'm running at 14/38 gearing and I have the LRD dogbone which is 6 1/2" long.
Thanks Higgy
-

JohnnyFive,
I just went out and measured my dogbones and I too was running the 6 3/4 dogbone before I switched to the LRD dogbone. If your linkage was hitting the swingarm then you obviously had the wrong dogbone on there. What year is your frame, because the LRD dogbones were made for the 88/89 bikes. When you say that you were a half inch longer from the linkage mount to the dogbone mount then your bros bike. Do you mean the dogbone mount on your swingarm? Could you guys possibly have different swingarms or you may have just been running the wrong dogbone. If the LRD Dogbone fixed all your problems then I'd just run that dogbone!!!
Thanks Higgy

I've ran +4 to +8's on dune bikes. And always liked the +4's the best. The bike still feels agile and comfortable catching a little air. I wouldn't rule out a +6 but I'm still more comfortable on a +4. +8 just feels too long for a dune bike.

I think you'll be okay with 86-87 length. I run my LED 350 sphynx with 88-89 length, this is mostly in the woods of course. Maybe if you had a Puma you could go +4
-
I run a plus 3 over 86-87 length on 363 sphinx. Still handles well but has a little extra length when you want to drag or hit the tree hills
-
Thanks guys, I think I'm gonna go +4 then. That seems to be the consensus!
Thanks Higgy

I was running the 88 89 dogbone which is 6in
.That's when the linkage bolts hit.So I put the lrd dog bone on tonight and now it doesn't.So ya I think that's what I need to run.It turns out that the linkage mount on the sits back a half an inch further toward the motor than the oem frame.

Ok and a few more of the new graphics and Custom LRD Bumper!!

Lighting those up with led's would look trick! What a sick bike! Hopefully we cross path's at the dunes sometime. I'd love to check it out in person. She's beautiful.
-
Well thanks bro, much appreciated! I thought about LED's but that NY be too much.... I don't want the bike getting any busier then it already is ya know. I'll consider it when I set up the LED Headlights.
Thanks Higgy.
-
Higgy +4 is money for your setup you will be very pleased!!! Who's swingarm do you intend to go with?
-
I'm really liking the looks and leaning towards one of those Stellar Swingarms!I think that I'm gonna get ahold of them, and get a quote?
Thanks Higgy
-
Ole Wayne had one of those, Stellar arched swingers! They are nice! :Boobies2:
-
That swinger that Jason (PDX) made was nice. The one that was arched and the owner put a lonestar sticker on it. Anyone have a picture of that swinger?
-
Insane build man! Congrats on the QOTM win, well deserved. I wish I could've competed with you, my build should be done in 2 weeks or so.
