Looking good puma. We needed these knob style seat latches.

Looks good Tony!!! How long will they be tested in the field before they are released to the public?

You are completely right. What the heck was I thinking. Wurks is no ones brand name as I have researched. But the name has already been put through the dirt. I was trying to come about 360 degrees and offer this seat attachment system at a third of the cost of the well known brand name. I have revised the thread and pics to show the new latch with the controversial name removed. And for you ATC fanatics the latch system has been modified to fit the 85 and 86 ATC250R.

Looking good! What do the knobs look like? Any provisions for a retaining spring or clip on the knob body?

I was running late yesterday when I was taking pics. When you are building a system for under $30 provisions for retaining the knobs just increase to cost whether you use it or not. The aluminum knobs are around $5 and the plastic ones are cheaper.

I agree also. Thanks Tony, well done.

as much as i love the look of the alluminum ones, my CM pipe would trash them in a ride lol.

They will be released to the public without field testing. Our high power shop testing procedure with explosives speeds up the process. First explosive only bent the bracket as you can see. This explosion would have put a hole the size of a foot ball in the seat pan

Well that's not guna wurk!

So is that what my cover will look like before it's done
Don't have to stress test factory Honda parts. Just those with words spelled in them. Your cover has to withstand 800 degrees in the oven. Not a problem for the cover just a problem for my gloves.

Hey Tony I noticed that the latch in the first pic is for the 86-87 seat pan what about us folks who have the 88-89 seat pan and it has 2 more studs sticking out for nuts sir.

Tell me how your going to take the plastic posts off the seat pan of the 88 and 89.

I thought I cut mine...

Mine have been cut and so has Jon's. All of my 88-89 pans do not have the pins on them at all.

I was not expecting you to say the unmentionable. I could try to make the 88-89 but my posts are in the way. I will make it up and send for you to try.
-
With OMF you have to cut the posts. .. it's not a big deal

Yeah, kinda like owning a 450

No, it's like owning 10 bikes that you never ride and just polish on them. :)

I will be in the market for an atc latch or 2 real soon. How much for the latch and knobs?

I was not aware the 88 and 89 seat pans have been altered to accept the aftermarket knob type hold down system. I grabbed my 88 fender set and did some measurements. I came up with this fit on the second try.

So these will be available by next week. 85-86 ATC,86-87 TRX and 88-89 TRX. The original plan was to keep them 1/2 the going price of $80. I hope to do these for about $30 with knobs. Will know by next week.

^^^^ Where do the screw on knobs go??

^^^^ Where do the screw on knobs go??
I just had time to get the bolt hole pattern for the 88-89. I cut a hole the same size as the OEM studs to get the rest of the holes in the correct spot without damaging my OEM seat pan. I will post a pick tomorrow of the finished product.
-
Good job tony looks good man. Jon will be happy for sure.
-
I like the new seat stay. Looks great. I would probably drill a small hole through the nut with a piece of cable/wire and secure it so that I didn't loose it. But that could be done at home

Normally the only time you loose the knob or knobs is when you forget to tighten them down for what ever reason. If they are loose then gravity will eventually make them fall off. I have run them for 8 years without loosing any on 3 of my R's. Replacement knobs are only $6 a piece.
-
So what is the final cost on these tony, just curious sir.
-
Bottom is the ATC version. Middle one is the 86-87 version, and the top one is 88-89 version. I still have to do a clear paint on them to protect them from the elements.

They look great!

Dems purdy:)
-
Those "WURKED" out great tony. Nice job and thanks for putting in the time to make them.
-
That's more like it, Tony. Good Job! Amazin' what you can do when you stop polishing your knobs long enough to make some new parts! LOL

:sign0108: ^^^^^ They do look good!

Great job Tony, again another hard to get part for the R.

I got the seat latch today! Thanks
Take a pic when you get it on.

Did you just want 1 set? I was going to cut a couple just for you guys that want them polished.

Very nice! How much for two polished ones?

The knobs are cast and a real pain to level up. Fire1 wanted to polish his latch and I did not have any that did not go through the sander. The waterjet makes some real sand blasted spots unable to be polished. I do not have any polished and was not planning on it. The base plates get run through the sander. and the knobs were not pretty. It is a hidden part so I was not thinking polish. I was going to just shoot them with clear paint to keep the aluminum looking natural. You can request a polish but do not know what the $$$ will be until we get to that point.

Yes , just one set. If its a lot of trouble I'll take one like they are.

I still owe you the calendar badges. I just did not think anyone would want to polish it when I was sanding them. I will make up a couple this weekend and ship it Monday

It would be alot of work for anyone to try and polish it complete and with the 100 grit sanded finish. Here's yours Tim. I took the pic before the locators get loctited in. This is just to show a few that wanted to know how they were assembled. The stud is pressed in with 7 tons of pressure to set it in place. Loctite is then applied onto the threads 3/4 of an inch up from the base plate.

Looks good!
You probably thought of this already but would hood pins work well? Seems like it might reduce costs even more.
Something like this...

Just a thought

Thats what the competition is selling for $40 shipped. I am not sold that those hold tight. I prefer to copy the OMF engineering quality. I thought I would match the $40 shipped price for the 86-87 model, but these will hold down tight. The ATC and 88-89 studs are longer and more heavy duty and cost a $1 each more
85-86 ATC that use the tall rubber cushion $42 shipped (Cushions for display only- not included in purchase)
88-89 TRX that use the tall cushion also $42 shipped (Cushions for display only- not included in purchase)
86-87 that use a short cushion $40 shipped (these are what they were all going to be price wise with the short studs) (Cushions for display only- not included in purchase)
86-87 that use tall cushions $42 shipped -for those who have bought tall cushion replacements (Cushions for display only- not included in purchase)

Replacement Carr-Lane knob with clear coat $7

So when can i get one tony?

So when can i get one tony?
They are ready to ship now! I just learned about the 88-89 needing the taller studs so I wanted to be sure to have everything in stock. I assumed all the TRX had short cushions and only the ATC had tall cushions. The tall cushions that come on the ATC and 88-89 have the little ribs facing up on your frame. (http://i58.tinypic.com/j5i734.jpg)
I also have the 86-87 with the tall studs for those of you that have 88-89 replacement cushions. In time all the latches will have the tall studs. But they were twice the price of the short studs.

The seat latch is a copy of OEM bolt pattern. All you need is the nuts you take off, put the new latch in its place and put your OEM nuts back on.
