Title: Anyone run a CT pipe / silencer
Post by: bnau267 on January 23, 2014, 12:09:28 AM
Trying to make my mind up on a new pipe.  Low to mid woods riding on a stock 86 engine with boyesen reeds.  Will eventually upgrade with some porting and carb work but sticking to around 250 to 265. Would like some feedback from anyone running a CT system.  I'm looking at a ESR trx7, Paul Turner midrange, and LRD type B as well.

I run ct pipes. National mids tho. Definitely not a low mid pipe.

I'm running the same thing, CT National Mid, stock bore, Boysen reeds, Keihin 35mm PWK.

Yes similar. Not the exact feel tho. I think the esr5  has a wider power band.

A trx7 would work great for that.

I have the ct pv pipe and there silencer. I think it looks very similair to esr trx 5. A friend has the 5 I don't think there would be a big difference between the two in power. The shape and size are very close. But if I was going to buy another I would get led's new pipe. I Bought my ct pipe last year and the chrome is coming off of it already. it was a pain to seal because it splits in the middle and takes 4 springs. The esr is a better looking pipe, no sealing issue,  and seems to hold up better IMO.

I have the CT mid-range pipe on my 310 and it was a night and day over my FMF. I always thought it had lots of low and mid range grunt but I may swap it out for my LRD to see how much of a difference there is.

I have a CT here that I have tried on my XC bikes.  I can honestly say I'm not impressed with the power it makes for the woods.
If you want a true low-mid XC pipe the Paul Turner Type 6 is the way to go.
If the type 6 is too low for your needs, I suggest an LRD/LED for the woods.

Are the type 6 pipes still made?

As stated, the type 6 is unfortunately no longer produced

I hoard pipes and gear boxes like a mad man I just bought my second sparks MX pipe; and stock airboxes for some reason...no idea why

It's a beautiful thing that you don't have attachment issues.

What about Pro Circuit Pipe/Silencer?  Is my Bills pipe junk?  I'm buying one from LED but still curious about the two just mentioned.

You know he's back right?  Was in a debate between Bills and a DRD just before selling my YZ.  Selling it made the decision easy.  Wonder if he can still make his R pipes.  I imagine these are stamped so I guess it depends on where the tooling ended up and why cognition it's in.
