Title: .ORG Weekend - Silver Lake
Post by: dlunn on February 01, 2014, 09:39:32 AM
Just wondering if there are any dates set that guys are planning to meet at Silver Lake this summer, I'm trying to plan vacation ahead and would love to be there with a bunch of other 250R riders?

Right now the tentative date was for July 12-13 weekend. I plan on making a 5 day out of it.

Joel, you let me know when and I can most likely make it work. I make my own schedule at work, and can take off mid day if needed!

Does everybody know where they're staying? Are the campgrounds fairly close together so we can all meet up at night at one spot?

Yes the campgrounds are all fairly close, and I know where I am staying I hope. May be coming up early Thursday night now..

I'm going to try and make it. as far as campgrounds go some Val Du Lakes seems to be the cheapest if I remember and were not to strict on the rules. We stayed there last year, decent place and they have a bar at the top of the hill. I have heard horror stories about others. Pretty much all of them have a curfue but some are stricter than others as far as lights out and no campfires after 10 or 11 pm. I wouldn't stay at the Jellstone though, more of a family oriented place. A buddy's group  almost got kicked out because they were sitting around talking (supposedly not drunk or loud) but they wanted them in bed and lights out.

What's the process for being able to ride at silver lake?  Is there an out of state pass or something of that nature? If it's anything like the north east they love to take your money for any sort of fun activity....is this a sort of thing I'm going to need to get a tittle for

Thanks!

Need title and insurance
Title: .ORG Weekend - Silver Lake
Post by: supernutt on March 23, 2014, 08:57:18 PM
I am not aware of any insurance that we need to have.  We are supposed to be able to provide proof of ownership if requested to do so and the only way to do that is to carry a copy of the title with you.  But I have never had to do that.

Post by: jamieg45 on March 24, 2014, 10:02:52 AM
Title and all if you get hurt , other than that you will just have to purchase a state park pass which they will sell daily ones and you will need a Michigan Orv sticker to ride as well and a tall flag ( the flags are sold outside the parking lot) so you can park and go get a flag and ride. And you will need a spark arrestor too.

Morse250r, johann did you need to provide proof of title when you were in your wreck? This is new news to me. As far as everyday riding goes, no title or insurance needed. Marc silverlake250r was asked for it one time, im not really sure what happened and how he proved it was his, but maybe he can chime in.

SPARK ARRESTOR IS A MUST!!!! Have one prior to coming, because you wont be able to get what you need there(on a normal day). Im trying to snatch up a few sparkeys with the rubber boot connector for extras incase people dont have them.

$26.50 for ORV sticker and State park pass(instate residents) and a flag is $15-25.

Title: .ORG Weekend - Silver Lake
Post by: pinned250r on March 24, 2014, 11:47:29 AM
sameltoe, Sam this is a sparky http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Cobra-Sparky-Spark-Arrestor-KTM-/360794370162?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5401053072&vxp=mtr but they obviously come in all sorts of different styles and whatnot. Back when i had my Shee with toomeys, i ran these instead of the spark arrestor inside the silencer. I used a high temp rubber boot with hose clamps to attach to the sparky, and then to the silencer.

Using the boot and hose clamps avoids wrecking your silencer with scratches or permanent instal, some weld on sparkys. There are some sparkeys that you literally just crush and bend to fit your silencer, 1 it looks like shit, and 2 it ruins both parts.

You guys rock the campgrounds this guy is staying at a hotel. I hate camping since I don't have a trailer

I guess I should've been more specific. All depends on the situation.

Needless to say...I've booked a room for my cousin and myself at the Sands, next door to Marc's place. Thurs through Sunday!!

So they let you reserve a room at the sands, I talked to them late last year and they told me I couldn't do that. I will be calling them this weekend and reserving a room then for Thursday thru Sunday then.

Jamie, there is plenty of room, people come in there with their goosnecks and have plenty of room. Also, Sands probably wouldnt let you reserve a room until the first of the year, much like the state parks and stuff. Now get that room!!!!
Fear250r, Jesse, i will take friday off to ride with you and Jamie! Shoot i may even come down thursday night to ride and have a brewski.

are you driving through the lakes needing a passport or staying south? either way it looks to be a little less the 14 hours, if you make this trip next year me and my son might join the convoy across to there

Haven't really mapped it out. Just did a quick search as far as how long it'll take to get there. I'm seeing 15 hours. Plus I figure another hour for who knows what.

Colin (pinned) is right, it's not too late! I know you're right over the border from us. Be easy to hook up and get a mini convoy heading out there! Be part of the first ever ORGy get together!

I hope to find out if we are going on our Harley trip within a week.  If we are not I am going to have to come over.  Just trying to see which is better to drive around the bottom or top or take the boat across to get there.  Anyone know what the boat ride across is all about?

Im guessing you're talking about the SS badger right? if so that comes to my town, and is about a 30 minute drive to the dunes. I havent checked rates on the badger, but if you had your R in your truck bed, that'd obviously be the most affordable way. Im sure someone will have empty space in their enclosed trailer to park it when youre at the hotel for the night or something.

I am pretty sure that is what it's called.  Either in the back of my truck and stay at a hotel or in a 6x12 trailer and camp in that.

Yeah your ferry coast would be a little more with the trailer, but who knows, maybe it would be overall less, compared to getting a hotel or campsite!

Made my reservations last week. My group and I are staying at Val-du-Lakes campground. We stayed there last year and had a great time and its hard to beat the price $15 a night.

I have taken the ferry accross to go to silverlake many times, but has gotten more and more expensive.Id call and ask if i were you. Night rates are cheaper and trailer rates go by footage from tongue to back. Putting it in the back of the truck is definetly cheaper. I think the next time i go im just going to drive around. The ferry ride is 4 hours but you have to get there like an hour early and then wait for unload then drive to silverlake. So all and all you save maybe an hour or so with the boat. The boat ride is alot more relaxing than driving though!!!!
