Title: ct 330 porting
Post by: hickwheeler on February 05, 2014, 10:35:18 PM
I just got a 88 250r with a ct330 motor. Is there a way to tell from the outside if they did anything special on the porting. Like markings they might of done. Thanks in advance

Most cylinders have engravings under the intake/reed valve. Other than that there wouldn't me a way to tell other than taking the cylinder off and measuring stuff.

This is a long shot but may be worth the effort.  Call up CT Racing and ask them if they have any record of that cylinder (and how it was build) based on the previous owners name.

I already tried that. they didn't have records of the build. just showed when it was sent back for new piston and bore.

is the cylinder off the bike right now? You can measure the port heights and some of the guys on here can tell you what it's ported for. CT is usually known for "cookie cutter" port jobs, another builder would likely be able to improve on it

no still on the bike. probably going to pull the head off in the next couple off days. just to see how things are looking inside.

I'm not real worried about if it is ported or not. wanting to pull head off to see condition of it to somewhat know were I'm at with it.

If it is CT porting, it will have a good amount of texture to all of the walls, not smooth & go on up into the reed chamber as well.
It will look as if some type of small round carbide was used, with points on it instead of sharp blades & maybe rotated backwards to just scar the surface instead of cutting.
You should be able to tell, that a good amount of metal has been removed to change angle flows & then the round carbide used to finish the surface off.

The cylinder doesn't seem to be ported. I took of the carb and reed cage and had a look. Was wondering if you guys could tell me what style reed cage this is. I'm thinking cr250. it had this and the intake boot swapped out. I have the stock setup also. Sorry for bothering you guys. Just get tired of trying to get a hold of original owner and builder.

The reed looks like a OEM Honda cage with Boysen reed petals
