Title: '85 Lorettas
Post by: zcarlson12 on February 14, 2014, 09:22:06 AM
I found this today and thought I'd share in case anyone hasn't seen it yet. It looks like there's some pics of Marty Hart, Jackie Meadows, Jimmy White and maybe one of Curtis Sparks on the #43. I think towards the end there's even a Tiger.

Thanks for posting this. I've been to Loretta's every year since 95 and it still looks just like that. I would have loved to seen those atc races there.

Ol Team Green in full force in the lower pics.
Number 7 was Steve Mendenhall running the Pro class & if I remember right, Jimmy White on the 31 & probably in the A class. I dont remember Donny Banks running Kawas, but he was in a few of those pics in the Kawa camp. That last pic, that might be Curtis up in the truck bent over doing something. Quite a few years ago, he came to a national TT race at Elizabeth City & still had dark hair then.
Any of you looking through the pics see Eddie.
Are all the pic on just that one page, or I'm not seeing them all.

1986 was the last year for Team Green, 3 wheeler ban screwed up everything up for Kawa, but Yamaha didnt quit, gave Mendenhall 2 Tri Zs & 2 Banshees to run the Pro class.
I just love all those idiots we have in the White House, making up rules that everybody has to live by. Why if you took any one of them & figured up what they call a days work, if you figured it up like a normal person working, you wouldnt owe then but like 50 or 75 cent, because thats about how much work they really do. Them folks filthy rich & all they do is move their arm & run their mouths.
I wish I could be persident, cause by the time I put my hand on that bible & took it off would FIRE the whole lot, wouldnt give them time to clean out their desk, just git gone, maybe even run them out of this country. Maybe send them to the back woods of Africa or Mongolia with no shoes.

Through everything I have seen it just seems like 3 wheeler racing was huge in the early 80s. It also seems like quad racing got off on one hell of a start seen so many televised races from the 80s yet nothing from the 90s and even now. What happened?

Most likely because of $. This years events will be televised on MAVTV and most of the GNCC's have been on for a couple years. I've even caught some of the EDT's on some show on speed before. It's all about $ and they can make more by televising the dirtbike nationals and supercross. I enjoy watching the bikes but would rather watch the quads any day of the week.

To answer sangheraent's question: it was becasue of the ruling of the class action law suit against 3-wheeler makers. One of the many rules/laws that came out of that suit was a manufacture ban on sponsoring any ATV racing for 10 years. This was from 1989 ~ 1999. Becasue of the lack of factory sponsorship, the quad racing kind of lost advertising dollars and fell from the "main stream" media coverage. Also why our machines became so popular, no race quads from the factories, aftermarket support was huge for 205R's, so if you wanted to race quads, it had to be a aftermarket 250R to be competitive.
