Title: Trx 150 r
Post by: Iceracer on February 25, 2014, 02:26:28 PM
Figured I would show what I've been working on as of late.  This started as a spare machine for my friends boy who races Xc kind of.... then the other one converted from dirt bikes and the last one is riding both.
Take one long travel trx 90(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_869_2017-04-18_3164.jpg)

add one crf150r engine (http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_870_2017-04-18_4648.jpg)
end up with horrible chain line due to engine position(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_871_2017-04-18_1378.jpg)  and no room for a real radiator due to chassis limitations.

So I am designing a new chassis around the engine so the fuel tank will clear the head and I can remove the valve cover for maintenance.
This is the actual render of where Im at rite now. I have to bend up some conduit so I can be sure everything clears correctly but It looks pretty good from the dimensions.

Frame will be all hand bent 1" 4130 tube, not sure on gauge yet but leaning towards  .065 to keep weight down since Its for my girl friend now. Will probably be a no link rear, and undecided on the front end at this point but probably trx 450 front a-arms with 300ex spindles, hubs etc since I have all that laying around.  Could end up with YFZ 450 front components though.

Ill to this thread add as I make progress.

(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_1040_2017-04-18_6078.jpg)Well here goes attempt # 1, half way through I realized I shorted myself @ 1" to be able to grab the next bend..... So I had to pull the tube remark from the opposite end and start in from that side.
This was the first time with this bender its a Woodward Fab unit, I recommend going with a little higher quality unit. It works and Is ok but the dies are not as nice as some others I have used. Over the summer Ill geek it out with air push and a Digital bend indicator as well as a better rotation unit. That really speeds up how fast you can bend a complicated piece. I have to get the engine and lower part all situated before I can finalize the upper tubes.
(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_1041_2017-04-18_3208.jpg)end result after tweaking top two bends of the tube, acceptable.  Time to make the easy pieces....... lol    Note to self re configure top two bends into one bend if possible.

Just tweaking the drawing now, waiting on some tube to get here. Have to decide what axle to use has a kart axle now but one wheel hub is loose and there a weird pattern if I could get blank hubs I'll consider keeping it for now. Getting really close to liking the layout . Just don't like the tank engine carb issue.
I'd like to move the fuel bung in the tank not sure how that will work out though.

Depends who you talk to I believe rite @ 22 HP. But I'll take it to the dyno at some point. This eng is pretty much stock except for a hot cam as for as I know.  All this one is meant for is a play bike in the woods with my buddies boys who race.  Be a little to learn and iron out  I'm sure.

Ya I heard about that. Good Idea, I cant believe Yamaha isn't putting the liquid WR 125 engine in them already.

Made a little progress last night. The tubing showed up so I went rite after it, got the lower rail and upper a- arm tubes bent and mocked up. I need more magnets....

should be ready to weld by the weekend, not that Ill be able to get to the welding shop, but I will be ready for the fist nice sunny day. Have to rely on solar heat rite now, Dark steel roof and mother nature do a pretty good job when the sun shines.

It will support its own weight now and a 120 lb rider is looking decent as far as the springs and shocks go. Getting closer and it weighs 210 lbs so far only missing a couple items few supportsradiator and brake calipers.

The 90 swingarm upside down seems close, frame height is a little low but the 18" long one I will build will probably be really close. May have to reposition the lower pivot, be nice if I can keep it above the swingarm be less work than going through it.

Thanks, strangely enough it's going as planned from my final cad drawing. There's deffinatly some adjustments needed to get a perfectly square frame. But this one is pretty good for working with no jigs and a piece of 1/2 plate steel with a crown.
Next project will be building a frame jig even if itS only for the front suspension. That took a lot of time positioning.

(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_1994_2017-04-18_6980.jpg)  Front end all welded with the exception of a upper bumper mount .  I haven't decided on the bumper I am going to use yet could be a Honda, could be a Yamaha.

I will hopefully get the rear shock mount on the swingarm all set tonight, just double checking the travel rite now.

Specs as of rite now:
Bartlett Racing 4130 cromo Frame and swingarm, set up for trx90r seat, tank cover, rear fenders and trx450 front plastic
07 CRF 150r engine Stock head pipe with Modified HMF comp series silencer
Lonestar trx450r xc lt front a-arms, Trx 450r steering stem, lower mount and lonestar upper bushing mounts.
300ex? Front spindles and brakes(as near as I can tell)

(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_2143_2017-04-18_5966.jpg) How low can you go, checking shock travel and frame out, have a little work to do to get extended and compressed to be Ideal but it will work for now.
(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_2146_2017-04-18_6416.jpg)450 plastics all mated up, going to order the mx maier fronts then make radiator scoops but thats for the winter time.......   Next stop Running and Rideable

(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_2145_2017-04-18_9565.jpg) A shot of it before the maiden voyage. Pretty happy with it, engine runs ok quite Idle hangs a little and it dont like to stay running if you walk away, needs some carb tuning to be 100%. But the first ride around the yard was good, nothing fell off.
(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_2204_2017-04-18_4169.jpg) I had to modify the silencer to fit, trimmed the head pipe and had to get a couple mandrel bent 45 s  to get the two lined up. Came out good I was a little worried initially with it, but got it moved to clear everything.
(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/501_2203_2017-04-18_6387.jpg) New radiator should be here next week. Had a trx 450 one shortened 38mm and spigots changed to 5/8 to match the engine. also had bungs added to front for a screen if needed. so far the louver from the 450 fits in.

Its actually quite a bit bigger than a trx90, similar size to a raptor 125 same seat height but more ground clearance.
I already have a few changes for the next frame. With a two stroke engine it could be a lower chassis but This one was but with yh intention of putting a 250 x  in later down the road. But it was so much fun building I will do a whole new frame when I find a organ donor.

Almost all done need to build airbox, nerf's and a brake disk guard. It is now a running, rideable machine.
I did a poly Skid plate for it
Tested on sunday and Chassis handles like a dream a little odd at first, but once you get over the feeling of sitting on the front wheels its all good.
I do have to make a change to the front shocks the body's are too long and the shaft travel is short. Once that's done it should be pretty sweet, rite now when you catch rock or root it sends it rite through the wheel to the handlebars. Everything else seems to be good, I was able to run it flat out through our practice track, no excessive body roll or any strange traits.  All 3 mini riders kept wanting to ride this over there machines and My Girl friend who I built it for is very happy with it.
Time to start the next one, Im looking for a CRF250X engine.

Thanks ,  I Just happened to have a 47 tooth rear kicking around I know I'll never use it again so it made sense.
The 450 plastic makes it so a rider over 5'2 is not cramped on it, and it looks cool. It weighs less than a raptor 125, has a lower seat height, and more power. Its much closer to a 250 raptor.
