Title: The lost stealth shroud thread
Post by: Pumashine on February 25, 2014, 08:40:55 PM
I am guessing I started this thread on the other site and forgot to copy it over here. I hope this is not repetitive of the old thread. The shrouds I am copying came from a shop known as RTC. They are a little on the spendy side as the material was polished and clear plated before it was worked into shape. The side view of the shroud resembles the Stealth aircraft. The main point is to offer a different design than the flat shrouds everyone else makes. But more important is to be at half the price. These will be made with raw aluminum and the customer will paint or PC to match his quad.
I took the program I had and added an extra inch to one side to create the V. RTC uses 2 inches and the V seems a bit steep. So as not to copy the other guys I will stick with these.

The front view shows how wide these will be.

I still have your PM...that was not lost

Went back to see where I left off. The shrouds from a side view have a dip to them. So rev 1 is adding 3/8 of an inch to the center of the V so it will appear straight after bending.

The front view pic was always one on my favorites, those shrouds with the green frame looks like some kind of angry reptile! !!   :ride:

I remember posting pics I got from other members on ATVriders. http://www.atvriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?465221-RTC-Radiator-Shrouds&highlight=Radiator+Shrouds
Sam posted a link in this thread to .Net  which may have been deleted http://www.trx250r.net/forum/body/20327-pumas-stealth-shrouds.html

They are the same size as my originals. Just added an inch for the V

It hurts too much to think. I just have to get back on them. I promised a set to member #300 last August. He is needing them for his dune trip in March. I gotta get these figured out and modified to fit his frame/radiator.

Old shrouds had lots of space between shroud and radiator.

New stealth has less than 1/8" gap

Great, for $200 you can decide how they look on your pink bike. If you don't like the Bling then put them on another one of your spoiled bikes.

Yes, I know you want them. I am still going to make these for $50 a set from .060 aluminum unfinished. When anyone asks about the price of the mirror finish stainless polished on both sides they are usually thinking maybe $100 a set. But you are the 3rd member who needs to have the polished stainless. If you live on the coast or around large bodies of water the polished aluminum fades very quickly.

You will notice there is a hole on each side of your shroud where the apron will attach. The old program made the grill and apron a one piece part and was very time consuming to install. Removal of the steering stem was the norm. Not gonna go there anymore. The grill will attach to the radiator with  4 screws and the apron will attach to the grill and shroud.

Hey Ryan, I will probably send you a new set of shrouds as I do not think those will fit the new apron. What problems did you encounter mounting those up? I think you said the a-arms hit. But these are 1/2" higher than the old ones so I do not think I can fix that.

Mounting them up was no problem. The one hole was about 3/4" off at the top, but you told me that before you sent them. They did hit the a-arms, so I grabbed the bottom front corner and pushed them up which bent everything slightly upward. I also took a hammer and bent the edge/corner up just a little til it cleared. Whatever you end up with, I'm sure I can make it work either way. :friendly_wink:

That was the anodized red color the run we made 15 years ago ended up being. There are just not enough of these made to get them anodized different colors. If I was making a 100 pieces it would be no problem.  It is more economical for you to send them to powder along with your other build parts. It was a $100 minimum for any color 15 years ago. Many parts were damaged in the process also. But back then there were 6 people working here. Now its just me.

Working on the grill and apron. The lip needs to be bent up a few more degrees. To get the correct angle of the apron a strip is placed flat along the plain you want to end up at and bend to meet where you want the flange to start. The white strip is the one I'm working with. The apron will get the same bend.

:stupid: Spring is in the air. I am going to be doing a frame swap on the red bike cause the sub-frame is severely cracked. Screw FB. I will only be building these for my peeps. If you are not part of this site then don't expect me to make these parts for you. The only reason I am building these is cause of the face-lift I will be doing more my rider. If you were to get these shrouds on the open market you could expect to pay $250 a set and $400 with the grill. If you try to order these through FB expect to never get them.

This is awesome.  Mine doesn't even have to be polished.  I know, that will break your heart, Tony, I know how much you love to polish. :character0029:

This is my first ever post here been reading and learning here for two years when I got my 250r ( what was there) in boxes and she finally came to the point of maiden voyage... With that said like many of you I've been patiently waiting to hear I could get me a set of these shrouds from Tony. Count me in Tony and I blame you for setting the bar so high that theres no other shrouds that could compare... Please count my 250r in for a set... Thanks

I'll take a set as well please! I've been wanting these for a long time.

I've been on this site since the beginning, and was banned from the FB group when I asked to join! So I'm 100% .org!

Feel free to take over when ever you get anxious. I am finishing up my frame swap for the 4rth. All shrouds look the same to me. But I think mine just look better. I proly have over 100 hours into these shrouds. If you can slow time down maybee I can make your dead line!

Are they still available or this was a member's special? I could use a set and a few of your other parts on your website Tony. Just no polishing or chrome,  they will be powder coated black.
Thanks

The polished stainless ones are cut. As for colors there are not enough committing to a specific color to get a run anodized aluminum. Seems as if I am always to busy to get these things done.

What about a raw aluminum finish? How many units to make a raw aluminum run? I figure that will help with cost and will keep it all in house. Everyone can get there own desired finish. If u can keep the $ down and make $. Everyone is happy. Lol! What about with a grill? Lol!! Ok ill b happy!! Sorry don't mean to b pushy. But u the man!

Its all about the grill. Never got time to finish the last step. I have 20 sets of the mirror finish 2 sides setting here. Formed up around 8 sets. Some have shipped. Some are waiting for orders. Once I get the grill done I will make a run of aluminum ones cost effective.
