I got a cheap kit off ebay with light strips and a controller. Last year I ran it on my 350x and just plugged it in to the tail light socket.  I have them on my R this year and put led headlights so I put a battery in the airbox.

I used a 7L-BS. it came off a kfx450. I think they are about $20 on ebay

If you just want the colored leds I just ran them off my tailight on my 350x. I had to use the battery for my led headlights.
