I bought a bottom end off a guy in the fall. It had a hot rods crank all new bearings seals and OEM gaskets Yukon gears new counterbalancer good cases etc.. Supposedly just needed a top end and it was good to go. We met up to do the deal and everything looked good from what I could tell (in the dark) and the guy was supposed to send me the water pump impeller that he forgot to bring in the mail.. Never could get ahold of him after that so never got an impeller. After i pulled the stator cover off and seen what kind of mess that was I decided to rebuild it first. Finally just got around to splitting the cases and there's gravel in the crankcase and the gears are stock and chipped up the crank and cases (mismatched set) seem alright but I definetly overpaid for what I ACTUALLY got. I'm very frustrated. Seems like you can't trust anyone these days I've been having this kind of stuff happen a lot lately.

Craigslist?
-
It wasn't a 78mm 330 cylinder was it? I got hosed awhile back buying a 330 with yukon gears that supposedly needed a piston. I got my money back from ebay, but I had already bought a new piston and gaskets to have ready. Hopefully you won't find any other issues.
-
worst mistake is taking anyone on their word. tear the whole motor down if you have to before buying it. sometime its better to buy on thats running so you can test ride it but still that doesnt gaurantee they havent done some half ass repairs inside
-
worst mistake is taking anyone on their word.
Yep, I just assume what I am buying is junk and go from there.
-
Yup it always sucks dealing with dishonest sellers but unfortunately that's the world we live in. Always do your due diligence.
-
Best thing is one taken apart in a bucket, at least you can inspect every part before you hand over the money.

Or buy only from, our friends! ;) :distant::Boobies2:

Nope. It was just a bottom end the guy posted it on .net and he wasn't that far from me so I didn't think I could go wrong with being able to actually check it out. The crank and the cases seem good so far which is everything that I was able to see. Definitely lost some money on it but it's not completely junk.

What seller would allow that??
I see your point, but if somebody I don't know from Adam showed up to look at an engine I am selling and asked to tear it all apart before buying, I would laugh at him and ask him to get off my property! LOL!

Man that sucks pumashine what people do for that buck not right at all

That's not cool. Post up that dick heads user name

X2... Thats not a little misinformation or mistake... That's a lot of difference in money right there.

Yes. If it was a mistake on his end a $$ kickback is in order asap. If it was not a mistake fellow members need to know about this for future protection.

I haven't been able to get ahold of him since the deal went down. Big surprise.. He knows what he did. I think he was just hoping I would be dumb enough to just run the motor and never split the cases. I'm not sure if I want to post his name cause I might lose the element of surprise if I do decide to go knocking on his door. He hasn't been online over there yet this year but he might still be lurking around with a different profile or something. The slimy bastard! Lol

Just a heads up, i pm'd the crap out of a guy who sold me carrier and axle, both supposedly for an R, but the carrier was too short. Pm and Pm(on facebook) so i could see he was reading them, just not responding. So after a couple weeks of this, and sayin "hey dick i can see you reading the message, now respond, i just wand to know what this unit is for, i dont need cash or anything from you" i finally called him out publicily, whatd ya know, that same day he messages and says to call him. Super apologetic and offers $, i said no. Sometimes, embarassment is the best tactic if all else fails. :)

Kjason?

I just got screwed on eBay. I'm debating whether or not to post it here. It was for a quadzilla part I was selling.
Once I bought some TT91 tires off some guy on line. Paid for the tires and shipping. Tires never showed. He never replied to numerous attempts of contact. So I had an idea. I went on every ysr50 forum board and made a tread that said "hi jack still waiting on my tires?" That was all it said. What do you know the tires showed up 2nd day air.
-
Kjason?
No kjason burned me on a arms. Lol this guy was Aintsokoolaid Evan Naber is his name.

It's hard to see in the pics but just about all the gears have stress marks on the teeth. you can see on the one in the upper left some sand or something must of got in between the teeth and left big marks in it.

I thought the cases were in good shape but I just found two cracks in the back from the swingarm

Also having trouble getting the crank out I'm not sure if this has something to do with it. Here's some of the sand and gravel in there too.
(http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt116/Allison55/Mobile%20Uploads/0404142024.jpg) (http://s603.photobucket.com/user/Allison55/media/Mobile%20Uploads/0404142024.jpg.html)

I'm not sure if I want to run this crank it feels alright but I don't know if I'll be able to get all the sand off it. Plus I'm sure it's one of the old style hot rods.
-
Wow...... I'd have trouble sleeping at night if I sold that as a good bottom end.
-
Ohh...... you gotta watch it over there on that .net site. That's where the shady characters hang out and they own it..
Thats a real fair statement.
-
Yeah. He did a pretty good job of hiding everything. Like he threw a nice polished stAtor cover on it to cover up that mess had a rag tucked nicely around the crank rod and it was all taped up so it appeared it had been covered. You really can't see the cracks in the back of the cases that easily from the outside so it appeared like it was a nice bottom end. Opened it up and I'm getting a totally different story. I don't know what to do at this point. I guess I'll just salvage what I can and try not to buy any more used parts from here on out.
-
I agree, you definitely got the shaft!
Maybe I missed it in an earlier post, but have you contacted him to see if he will at least do a partial refund?
My brother bought a 200x engine from a FB group recently that was a "good runner" when pulled a couple years ago. But the seller told him up front that if there was any problems to let him know and he would make it right. The price was right so he pulled the trigger and bought it... 2nd gen 200x engines aren't exactly abundant..
So gets it and takes it apart for inspection. He finds the cam and entire valvetrain smoked, and a worn out max overbore top end.
He contacted the seller and the seller was very good about it and refunded him half of the buying price.
All I'm saying is just give a guy a chance to make it right and see what he does.
I hope it works out for the best for you, because that is certainly not a good mill you bought. Sounds like it should have been sold as a "parts" engine and priced accordingly...
-
I say give him an honest chance...you bought it in person,
if you didn't see any issues maybe he didn't either, the only way you found the problem was taking it apart,
and it sounds like he didn't have it apart right before trying to sell,
don't forget these bottom ends are getting very old, and what you found is very common on a 25 year old race machine,
what you got was the average $400 to $500 bottom end, if you payed more then yes he owes you some coin!!!
but if that's about what you payed, then he probably knew as much about the problem as you when you bought it,
ask yourself if you would have known about the issues if you didn't split the cases, probably not, and he might not of either,
me, I expect thing like this to be wrong if buying low cost parts, but not if spending top dollar,
how much did they cost you?
-
Well I'm glad you let us know his name so the rest of us can be wary of dealing with him at the least. IMO if something is gonna be sold as a good bottom end, then it should have at least been split and inspected by the seller(no way I'd let a buyer come over and let him start tearing a motor apart). Then again, I'm a hoarder and not a seller LOL. Luckily I'm pretty stocked up on R parts(except cases) so I don't really have to worry about this kind of stuff anymore. Those cases do at least look easily repairable, even though they were not sold as needing to be. Good luck!
-
I describe things very accurately on Ebay and usually get less than it's worth because I do so. Almost to the point it's not worth selling.
-
if he bought it used from someone else then how can he claim its in good shape if he didnt pop it open and verify ? im thinking he probly knew it had issues and wanted to dump it on someone else then play stupid and act like he didnt know of any problems. ive bought used crap before and they always play stupid when you confront them about it. it probly sat uncoved for a while outside or in a garage and birds made nest and put the gravel in there. how the cracks got there is hard to say. had many old used bikes and cracked cases werent part of the normal wear and tear.
-
Guys its been stated he has been trying to contact him throughout the whole process....unfortunately some people are just selfish pricks.
-
IMO if something is gonna be sold as a good bottom end, then it should have at least been split and inspected by the seller.
^^ Ageed! The seller cannot claim it's good, if he doesn't know! It sounds, a little misleading.
-

When you see the face of the teeth with pitting like 5th gear in the upper left, it is an indication the gear has a lot of miles under a heavy load or the metallurgy was not up to spec.
-
I bought a bottom end off a guy in the fall. It had a hot rods crank all new bearings seals and OEM gaskets Yukon gears new counterbalancer good cases etc.. Supposedly just needed a top end and it was good to go.
The seller made some bold false claims that highly effect the value. No question, the buyer got ripped off.

i concur. the pitting is evidence of microscopic fracturing.

yes but what was the price??? if seller charged top dollar then you would expect top quality, but if it was an average price for a used bottom end then expect problems
you usually get what you pay for....this bottom end was no different from the beat $300-$400 bottom ends out there....
my question is what was the final price?? that tells the hole story if it was a rip off or cheap price for a cheap product,
I agree its in tough shape, but that what to expect for a few hundred bucks, regardless of what the person selling says it has or is worth.
Price????????
-
maybe the gears were made from a bad batch of steel. its just as likely that they grinded up a chunk of metal. either way it doesnt matter. you cant claim something is in good shape unless its poped open and verified , which wasnt done
-
The seller gave me this big story about how he had just built the motor with all new Yukon gears new counterbalancer perfect cases new hot rods crank etc he ran a 265 top end on it for a little while then removed it. I paid over 600 for it because it was supposed to be a bolt in and go motor and I know yukons are getting hard to find.. I'll be making some more attempts at contacting him. How serious do you guys think I should get about getting some type of reimbursement? It's been a while since the deal went down so it might be hard to get ahold of this punk.

ya that's way too high a price.... but as you said it was last fall, so maybe 6 or 7 months since you bought it?
that makes things tough, if he was a decent person he would honor the original deal, but I doubt you have any recourse in this situation because of the amount of time
-
it might not be possible now but send the whole damn thing back to him if you can. otherwise just patch it up i guess. not much else you can do
-
Allison, I think realistically 6-7 months is quite a long time after the fact to seek some kind of reimbursement. I'm not saying you are being dishonest at all, but would you feel like you owed a buyer some money back if he came back to you 6 months later with problems?
Totally different story if you had discovered the problems a few days after the deal went down...
-
I think it's time to bump this thread back up! I let it go after not being able to contact the seller. I thought from his posts that he was getting out of the R game and we wouldn't have to worry about him anymore.. Figured I would cut my losses but I see he's back now and making some bold statements about another member being dishonest. Just a heads up for the good guys in here. I don't want to see anyone else get burned the way I did! Evan Naber Aintsokoolaid or whatever is the guy

If the bottom-end was advertised as having a Yukon gear-set, and it doesn't, then that's bullshit
-
If the bottom-end was advertised as having a Yukon gear-set, and it doesn't, then that's bullshit
It's a trashed stock transmission. I haven't done anything with the motor since I tore it down. It's still all sitting in the crate that he sold it to me in.
-
I think you should take that engine back to the seller and ask for your money back. The guy said it was just re built with Yukons and in good shape. Clearly it is not as he described it.

This happened over a year ago. He brought it to my work in his girlfriends Grand Prix and I bought it on my lunch break. He wouldnt answer my calls, then finally responded to a text I sent him, and he asked who it was and I told him, then he blocked my number. All I know is he was from the frankenmuth area

This kid is local. Never delt with him though.

To clarify: Evan did not get scammed by Roger Sneider. Roger filed a dispute with paypal because of the condition the parts were in when he received them. The so called free parts were not packaged with any packaging material. Through transit and poor packaging the parts were not acceptable to his standard when Roger received them. Roger is not a member here or he does not care to dispute it on our forum.

Bam !

Looks like he posted more parts for sale yesterday on this site. Buyers beware.

Vinny, did you read the thread. http://trx250r.org/threads/3107-Got-burned-again!/page4 Where he sold a motor with yukon gears for a high dollar amount and the guy Allison#51 took it apart to find stock gears? You think I've just made all this up? What do I have to gain? You obviously have no morals. I don't expect to get anything out of someone as slimy as you. But I'll do everything I can to make sure you don't screw over anymore of the good people in this community.

Here's another thread for the same motor the description just changed a little bit.. Big surprise. There's so many signs I wish I would've seen before. A "Wisco Hotrod Kit" ??? States that the basket is new, yet he "believes" it's aftermarket. If it was new you would think you would know what brand it was. For the record It's a stock basket and its definetly used. I can post up more pictures of everything tomorrow if anyone wants to see more. I haven't done anything with it.

All your sales are done hear and on TRX250r.net. You are banned for life until you make this right for Allison#51. :stupid:

Thanks guys. I don't normally stick up for myself. Wasn't sure how this would go but you all had my back and I appreciate it. Makes the situation a little better. Maybe now I'll make that motor breathe some fire and go kick some four stroke ass with it. Lol

over exaggerating with his responses just like how he over exaggerated the quality of this bottom end, clearly shows the date was 2013 in the posts. i kno plenty of people with this type of personality.
douche bag thru an thru.

I find it hilarious how there is no response for him lately, yet hes bumped up all his forsale posts etc?

This sux for everyone. And now it sux for me. He is selling green fenders I need and won't buy from him.
-
i have sold tons of parts an i can say this if ya sell a bottom end with"all the trimmings " ya don't forget.
-
I sold a bottom end that came from a running 88 for 650 because you never know what the issues are and explained everything I saw to him.
-
I trust you jared. It is what it is. We take chances buying things used. I feel you described it to the best of your knowledge. But your certainly did not claim it had a bunch of aftermarket parts installed. I do appreciate you stuffing the exhaust and intake full of hundred dollar bills, its the only correct way to keep out debris.
Now sell me that ratsun!
Hopefully this all gets worked out. Kool-aid is getting tore up pretty good on both sites.

He's catching quite a bit of shit for this. Don't think he'll be selling anything until he at least clear this issue.
Fenders are pretty cut and dry as long as there's enough pics, cant hide anything inside fenders.
-
Cut and dry or not I won't support this type of seller

Still haven't heard anything from him

I'm just waiting for him to make a new profile.

i'b be embarrased to even give that flywheel away for free

It's a custom race flywheel. The rust adds weight so you can lug it in the lower rpm range.
