trx11B. just got this in the mail today "new" from eddie. the head pipe was already put together with the expansion chamber, and as i went to pull it apart, it was rusted together, and there has never been a o-ring in where there should be. i normally wouldnt worry about the inside since it would get a nice coating of oil inside, but under closer examination the outside is in pretty bad shape as well.
underneath the main exhaust mount the expansion chamber is solid orange from rust, the chrome is completely gone under 2 of the spring loop mounts, im not sure what that white stain from some kind of fluid, that is running from along one of the seams shown in the pics, but inside the trail of whatever it is, is many many spots of surface rust. also that one weld seam has a very large amount of rust on it. also looking up at it very close, the chrome is speckly in several places, which to me looks like an attempt to buff out some surface rust.
i very much want to ride, i have had this bike for 3 months now and still have yet to take it for a spin, but im afraid that seam that is badly rusted will turn bright orange very quickly and the rest of the spots that look like they have just been cleaned up will too. would you send it back?? if i send it back you think the one i got in return would be any better? i tried to take as good of pictures as i could.

I noticed they plate with the springs on. Under the springs and inside the small bracket used as a mount the plating is real thin and next to not existing. The plating is a reflection of the total pipe cost. If you are not going to see it, mask off the rust after brushing it off and paint with clear VHT or any clear rattle can. It will help the rust from coming back. If you wanted show quality then order the pipe bare and send out to your favorite chrome shop.

Yes I would send it back, that pipe has to many small things wrong with it.

thanks puma, im not looking for show quality, but as a new item am i over-reacting expecting it not to be rusted down the weld seams and rusted onto the head pipe so hard it wouldnt even come apart? im not being a smart-ass, i seriously would just like to know if this is the norm on these pipes, if so i can see now the basis for the price point. thanks for the help.

thanks puma, im not looking for show quality,
I am not trying to be a smart azz either. The plating will protect the pipe from instant rust on the outside but not the inside. I also asked the exact same thing to myself when buying a trx9r pipe for my Puma and again when I bought the second one. 80% of the pipe is great. The other 20% needs some attention. Its just you get what you pay for with production pipes. I think if you asked Eddy he would say some are better than others as he sees the same thing everyday. I was told by Jon that ESR ran out of pipes lately. It is a good chance you got one of the last ones....proly set aside. If you are really unhappy I am sure he would exchange it for a new one when the next order is done.

If you clean those outside rust spots with Barkeeper's Friend (or something else with Oxlalic Acid) it'd probably wipe right off. The inside will be coated with oil soon enough, so I wouldn't worry about that.
-
thanks, i know i could wipe if off, but paying $400+ for something new, id expect it to at least be in new condition. now if eddie would answer the phone or reply to my emails i could get this thing sent back. going to go with arlan and a LED 350G instead.
-
That's a good point, and I don't know that I'd be happy with that either. The chrome is very thin causing those surface rust spots. My 20 year old Paul Turner pipe doesn't look like that.
-
that's just poor workmanship, those pics are enough to keep me from buying a esr pipe

Previous customers not sending back sub-standard products is why your are getting one. You paid for a product and you did not get what you paid for. Send it back.

I bet that 11 had been made up and in thier inventory for a bit and with them being on the beach it got the rust. Contact them. Eddie has been taken care of and has been hooking up forum members over and over.

thats exactly what i was thinking Jerry.
disappointing, but he just emailed me a return shipping label, hopefully we get this taken care of asap, we have a trip in 4 weeks, have to get another out from arlan, and then tune and gear it still, havent even got to ride this thing yet, but am extremely anxious to!
