What do you guys prefer and why ?
Thinking of getting a mapp or butane torch
-
I've got some mini torches and one with a soldering tip that burn butane, and a little bit bigger torch that I use mapp gas in . The mapp burns hotter. I guess it depends what you want to do with it.
-
Basically for rusted bolts and nuts around the vehicles
-
I know its not butane but I got a propane torch set up for doing small metal fab projects & it didn't get the metal hot enough for what I wanted so I gave it away & got a mapp set up & it works much better & burns a lot hotter than propane.
-
Propane is comparable to butane. Oxy/acetylene is definately the preferred setup, but much more expensive. If you just want a single gas setup get mapp.
-
Right, Go axy/acetylene if you can. Simple MAPP takes forever to work on bolts. And trust me, being from MI, there isnt a vehicle out there with a clean bolt on it. I envy southerners.
-
GM and Ford might as well give all their vehicles a good oil bath before they release them to MI dealers. i'd say RAM should do the same...but they dont have a chance of avoiding rust. :)
-
WHAT!!! There's a lot more rusty gm trucks around here than any others under 10 years old. I actually got my main Ram from Traverse City back in 06. I did end up putting rocker panels in it 2 years ago, but it's 22 years old so I think it earned them.

I know GM trucks rust also, as i have owned 5 OBS chevy/gm trucks and tahoes, and have done rockers, cab corners, and repaired doors/tailgate, but there is no way a dudge rusts less. Obviously how you take care of the vehicle plays a role in it, but Dodge is notorious for rotting out before the pay off in MI.
But any GM 06 or older will have rusty rockers in its life, theres no avoiding that haha.

What is this rust you peeps talk about?

The devil....

Actually if you want a great single gas setup go with a acetylene TurboTorch, it is what most heating and air guys use to do hard solder on pipes and gets much hotter than Mapp or propane torches
