Heres the video of me wrecking last Sunday. I wrecked hard, my rear brakes lost pressure suddenly and i panicked and grabbed the bars to hang on for deal life and my hand hit the extended throttle lever and i accelerated into a tree to miss my buddy Kevin infront of me. It was a steep hill to begin with and everything happened really quickly. I was carried 200 feet down to the lake and removed from the woods by boat since we were one mile back in some rough trails. I cant thank the rangers and paramedics that extracted me and transported me to St Louis. I was driven by ambulance to St Anthony's up in St Louis but would have been flown by helicopter if the winds hadn't prevented them from flying in. I lost a lot of blood immediately since it was a compound fracture where there were 3 broken parts to my ankle. Bones came through the skin and i was in some serious pain. An Orthopedic surgeon put a plate and 3 screws in my ankle, im down for 8 weeks. I was not wearing my MX boots, i will never ride again without them. I have been riding 10 years and dont usually strap my helmet, another thing i will never ride again without doing. My Ankle should be normal after some time and PT. I smashed my knee pretty good and slightly reinjured my left shoulder that i broke back in 2009 in another atv wreck. I wasnt riding outside of my abilities here nor was i impaired by substances, things happened so quick its hard to even explain what actually occured. Jason, I read a post about this wreck on facebook. I'm glad to hear you are ok. It sounds really bad by the post. I noticed you were wearing regular tennis shoes in the video. You feet were just at the mercy of the cold steel and hard wood. Man, I can't imagine. From the video, you took it alot better than I think I would have. I will say a prayer for your healing.
P.S. - bike sounded good if that helps any. :friendly_wink:
-
lmao thanks man. i couldnt be happier with how the bike sounded and ran. just a dream come true. I was so used to riding in my skate shoes but told myself when i got the 500 running i would be safer with my riding gear. first real ride on it and i jacked myself up, should have followed my original plan. Live and learn! Hows that SC treating you still? I plan to plug mine into the 310 and see how it runs, the 500 didnt agree with it at all

glad you survived your wreck. get well jason.

It's still ripping around good. I have been running it through the ringer at the mx races, and it has performed well. I have been really happy with it . Jets? What are jets? LOL.
-
That sucks Jason. I hope you heal up 100% and fast.
Use this as some motivation guys. Helmets, goggles, and riding boots. Once you get used to them you will feel strange without them. You just have to make yourself work through the transition.
-
ya i look forward to seeing how well the 310 likes it.
-
Damn thats a pretty nasty wreck man. Hope ya heal back up just fine and get back to ridin asap
-
Sorry you crashed man! Hope you recover well and ill ne wearing my alpine stars from now on!
-
You can have all the saftey gear there is, mechanical failures can still get you.
Yes real MX boots are good but don't think you can't get hurt with them. I broke my foot while wearing them.
-
Oh and the helmet flying off is the first thing I noticed. I watched it before I read.
Good luck on the recoverey
-
I have to wear all my gear when I ride. If not I feel weird!
-
I feel unsafe without my gear. There is no way I would have got on that beast without it.
I guess your not going to make it to Sikeston to race. Lol
-
Glad you are OK man. And your camera is fine I take it. I was thinking a getting a helmet cam now I am wondering if its such a great idea. Everyone can see when you happened to get messed up. Thanks for sharing!!!!!

That's a bummer but glad your gonna be ok. I was out at st.joe just a day before you.

thanks for the responses guys. Wrecks happen, i would rather have footage of them to be honest! If your going to the hospital you may as well have some video footage to look at. I really like my go pro, it has caught some great riding and adventures, great investment for sure. It took the fall just fine. I dont know that my ankle wouldnt have been broken had i worn boots, given the intensity of the wreck im sure there would still be severe damage. oh well, it happens! live and learn.

Glad you're as ok as you are. I always wear my boots and strap my helmet, but you're probably right about still having an injury with your boots on. It may not have been quite as bad, but by the looks of that peg, I can't see a boot completely saving you. It did sound really sweet.

That video reminds me of 2 things. 1 Always wear your gear. 2 The grunt of a cr500. Can't wait to finally get my 85 cr500 going again. Fun to ride, but just breathe on the throttle and the front end wants to come up(fun in the dunes, but scary in the woods). Hope you heal up soon. BTW just kicking my cr500 makes me wanna wear boots, not to mention riding it (got a decomped head that I'm finally putting on it). Just took my yz250 for a quick spin in my field. I wasn't wearing boots and that alone made it feel weird! I always wear boots, but just wanted to burn a little gas thru it to put some fresh gas in the bowl. I've broke both ankles before(one at a time, many years apart and one was while wearing mx boots). To put it simply, IT SUCKS and takes forever to heal and feel somewhat normal again. Again I hope you heal up soon and can't wait to some more vids of that beast.

Glad to hear you will be healing up. After watching this i will definitely take your advice and gear up every ride.
-
hope you get healed up soon that was a hard lick.

thanks man, i do love this bike for sure. watch the video, you can see me flip the decamp head and then ever so easily flip the motor over in one kick. i can't start the bike with the blaster kicker as is, but with the decomp head and blaster kicker its easier to kick than my old worn out 84 250r air cooled motor lol. I have broken the same ankle when i was growing up, i got kicked by a horse so its always given me trouble. My body is worn out at age 31 from too many injuries! Im kind of used to walking slow when i first stand up, or stretching more often before i lift weights etc. Bad shoulders, wrists, arms, knees, ankles. Its all been broken at one time or another! I just got to get used to wearing boots when i ride now, and finish breaking in the set i bought 6 years ago hahaha

Those trails look like a lot of fun. It sucks that you busted up your ankle but good to hear your recovering well. What I don't understand is how you can ride in skate shoe's. I forgot my boots on a dune trip once & had to wear my chuck taylor converse & by the end of the first day the bottoms of my feet hurt so bad I could barely walk. Your feet must be tough as nails!
-
Hope you heal soon. It sucks when a guy is laid up. You are very lucky as it could have been alot worse. A guy I work with fell off of a dozer while teaching his kid how to run. He broke his neck and now has problems making it thru a 8 hour work day. I dislocated/broke my hip racing MX in 99 and dislocated my shoulder in 2013 again on a MX track just practicing though. I agree with you on the video.....I have my back wreck recorded on VHS from back then. Just take it easy and use the time off to get better and rest up. During these times a guy usually gets alot of attention from the Mrs.:redface-new:

Sorry about the wreck bro, glad you are doing good. I always wear my gear except for at home in my little side yard, testing and tuning but nothing hard core. Now I wear alpine star tech 10 s because after I broke my ankle with my tech 8 s on and they won't fir because of the plates and screws. I also wear knee braces and a neck brace as well. Been hurt to many times and 1 bad 2 yr laid up wreck. So I knkw the pain your in because I to had a compound fracture from a flat land of 35+ ft in the air at silver lake sand dunes. The bone came rite out the kevlar in my tech 8 s. Hope for a speedy recovery bud.
-
I watched the wreck over and over and I just don't understand what you did...seems like it came out of no where... glad youre good though! compounds are no joke!
-
Looks like maybe the throttle was loose. But glad you are ok. Dont know you. I tried riding with shoes one day cause i forgot my boots. Didnt last long.
-
Watch the vid and you can see him accidentally hit that extended thumb throttle just a little while he's trying to stop with no brakes. That's all it takes! In the other vid you can see him basically idling around the trails. The reasons why are because 1 new motor and 2 it's making enough power to get around just fine. Not much throttle is needed to get around. You let the torque do it's job.
-
hope u get well soon! im the same as you, been breaking bones all my life, have had too many to count, but the worst was 3.5 years ago i compression fractured my T12 vertabrae, due to mechanical failure. vent tube at the top of my dual fcrs on my raptor snapped right at carbs and sand got in, and jammed up the carb slide just as i juiced it to pull a wheelie, then hit a huge sand berm wide open in 4th gear and it jacked me hard, was laid up for 4 months.
sometimes, even with all the gear you can imagine on, things can and will happen. good luck!

Ouch! Glad you're semi-ok. I have a buddy who rides with his helmet unstrapped and I still can't understand it.
