Title: sphynx questions.
Post by: d-rock on May 01, 2014, 07:35:39 PM
On a CPI sphinx cylinder.

1- what do you use to seal the exhaust flange to the cylinder?
2- there are 2 holes at the base that go into the water jacket. They should take a pipe plug but what do you seal them with? The threads are poor, I don't think Teflon tape will seal it. I was thinking of epoxying them in.

Thanks. Derek.

I used hi temp silicone for my exhaust flange on my Puma and I'm sure the same would work for the water jacket plugs as well

If its that bad, can you clean them up with a tap?

Plugs thread in fine but on 1 side of the hole there are no threads. I think the holes are there from casting and were to big for the tap.

after millennium acid dips and sand blasts them the threads sometimes look a little ragged but it should still seal fine unless someone has jacked them up. you can just use pipe sealant in liquid form, teflon tape or even a good silicone on the threads and you will be fine

Remember they do have to come back out next time its plated. I like to use High Tack    http://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=Cf7M6PrZjU7y2NpS_-QOS5YGADK2W480CjZ3b43TNmYP6SwgJEAMg3s3PHigPUJjS8b8FYMm2-IvMpIgZoAGXydf6A8gBB6oEJ0_Q4w_bObwFAnDsVlSE1GH_o6LslldTWblQnOIhGOyk6b-6QyJ46sAFBaAGJoAH0baoBZAHA-ASlbrCx8qS3MKyAQ&sig=AOD64_1-9_r8d-L4lQZGeVbxL4jwUlZgCw&adurl=http://www.rkdms.com/redirect%3Fc%3D1108676683%26en%3D27%26cl%3D811%26u%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.motorcycle-superstore.com%252F22862%252Fi%252Fpermatex-high-tack-gasket-sealant%253Fdevice%253Dc%2526matchtype%253D%2526network%253Dg&ctype=5&rct=j&q=&ei=PrZjU_SIM4P9oASEsIG4Ag&ved=0CKIBEKcrMAM&cad=rja

i think your right, they look sand blasted, ill try sealing them up and pressure test before i assemble it .
I have high tack and liquid teflon.
Thanks for all the input.
Derek.
