I'm looking to get some mx gear I would like to race some this year. I've had some motocross boots and can't stand to ride in them because I couldn't shift or brake the same as regular boots. Not sure if they make boots that you can move in or? Tips or what you guys use.

Thor makes atv specific boots. I never used them but they could help. I use axo shorty's & they work perfect for shifting. Spend some time on rocky mountain or motosport read through the reviews on boots & you should get your awnser if the certain boot is good for that or have to raise your shifter.

Your boots needs to be broken in really well before your get comfortable with them. Just like a baseball glove
I like to walk around in mine (when they're brand new) when i'm working on my quad. Shortens the break-in process

Can you move your left ankle to shift Ive worn a few different types all restricted my movement so I couldn't do much. When you race gncc or gp races do they require full gear?

Adjust your shifter and brake pedal. I wear a size 13 boot and struggle if it's not allowing my foot to shift up. I've had my boots a few years, and they are still stiff. Be patient with them.
Boots quality is basically what you pay for them, don't skimp on protective gear. Try some gaerne sg10's, they are pricey but have heard they fit/feel awesome.
I had the same problem as my feet are size 12 and being 6'6" doesn't help either.....That's why I was glad to get a hold of a couple of Denton shifters....They are so adjustable they will work for any size foot....

Is that the one with the linkage looking set up? If so i seen a couple sell on the bay for less then they are worth. I wouldn't mind having one. Or two

I too hate motocross boots. I love my Gaerne Balance oiled boots. gummed cleated soles really work well when of the bike (trail rider). no break in required at all. you can literally wear them all day long.

Tbone is dead on. You got to break them in. Walking around in them and bending them back and forth helps alot. Also, spray some type of light lube like WD-40 all over the boot. I thought it sounded funny too, but all the racers I know do this to their new boots and they swear it helps break them in faster. I had the same problem last year with my new Fly Racing boots. Man were they stiff. I'm on my second year racing mx with them and I don't even notice them anymore.

I feel your pain. I wear a size 14 boot. I have to kick my shifter up at a really high angle to get my big freaking foot under it. LOL.

That's a good call on the adjustable shifter. ESR makes their shifter adjustable now as well to accomadate for different size boots.
Like Danhung said, there are several boot makers out now that actually have a "pivot" built into the boot. They are so flexible, they require no break in time. But they are dang expensive. Gaerne and Fox both make a set of these type so far.
