Why did the dyno guy compare power and an air/fuel curves using dyno runs made in different gears? The length (time) of the dyno runs between 5th and 6th gear can be enough to change the shape the power curve.  Did the dyno guy remove the sniffer tube from the muffler after he was done tuning and make a few more runs to check and see how much the sniffer tube could have been affecting the power and piston temperature??  Most engines need to be richened slightly after removing the sniffer tube and reducing the restriction the sniffer tube adds.

Do you have the run files from the dyno?  Not pictures of the dyno sheets but the actual data files that are on the dyno computer.  If so, send them to me if you want me to look at information that could possibly make it run better and or more reliable.

You know Jerry I have no clue why he did it that route & why he only threw in one main jet & called it good. I know if he would have spent more time tuning he could have sqeezed more power at it. It still runs like garbage, worse actually. I Know hes mostly a 4stroke guy & probably knows nothing when it comes to 2strokes..  I had my dad drop it off to him & dad picked it up, the fella said it was good to go.I was watching Arlen dyno some 250r's & it looked like he did it way different. Hmmm

My buddy's ESR 420 with an oof pipe, 40.5 keihin, cr ign, trx11 port...  He was somewhat disappointed lol. He was told should be about a 70hp motor.

My old FTZ built pilot cylinder 390, 40.5 keihin, cr ign... The tuner said "something doesn't seem right" lol. I shipped the motor back to FTZ to have the. Check all port timings etc... They said it was fine. I switched the carb over to a 44mm Lectron and it did run better but still was a disappointment for how big the motor was. But it had torque like a train at least...

DYNO (https://www.facebook.com/258905124138569/photos/a.616673628361715.1073741838.258905124138569/616673638361714/?type=3&src=https%3A%2F%2Fscontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-frc3%2Ft1.0-9%2F487508_616673638361714_124837290_n.jpg&size=569%2C450&fbid=616673638361714)
My laptop crashed so I don't have access to post what I really think is useful (overlaying 2 different setups to show the difference).
The software used to show the dyno is the old school version of Winpep but none the less you get the idea.
I had originally dyno'd it using a 38AS. Arlan and I decided to "play around" and taper bored the carb out to a 41.5. Jetted with a CEJ needle 3rd clip, 52 pilot and a 180 main. We saw the power shift ~250-300rpm scooping out the bottom and mid but produced 2 HP extra on the top. We all like big numbers but I assure you that was ABSOLUTELY the wrong way to go. In fact I just switched back to a 38AS. Nature of the beast my friends, the larger the carb you lose down low and gain up top. 38AS is magic - leave it alone. Arlan was doing R&D on his 350G pipe. The one pictured (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.616673628361715.1073741838.258905124138569&type=3) is the first release candidate. Was really cool watching my bike build more and more power as Arlan worked his magic on it. It was about a weeks time every night getting emails with dyno results. One of my fondest memories for sure.

Bottom line, IMHO the HUGE benefit of having a builder like Arlan that also makes pipes is the combination is killer. Unlike most companies who talk a big game, he is certainly one of the few that can backup his claims with dyno's. Yes, some people (and a few companies) will say dyno's are a waste or can be cheated. Well, some what true - that part about falsifying info anyway. For instance doing a dyno pull while the motor is cold can get ya a couple ponies. But I will say after using Winpep myself, there are no "cheats" within the software. Let's put that rumor to rest right now.

And another thing I'd like to mention, where I live (Portland Or.) we jet our bikes for 0-500. So you compare my bike to a bike dyno'd in (let's say) Idaho - there's a HUMONGOUS difference and not for the better. The altitude difference is a power killer. Less air + less gas ='s less HP.

Thats some good numbers Morse! I think I'll get a ESR9 exhaust & maybe a 38mm carb & I will have Arlen tune it properly on his dyno here soon.

I am happy with that stock top end, it hits HARD! However i struggle to find much power on the low end, which is fine with it being strictly a duner R, but would still be nice when riding with the wife, or trying to do a long wheelie(like i said, it hits hard and i've gone over backwards a time or two). The 310 on pump gas surprises me. Tempts me to give mine a shot....
