Title: Trx axle work in a 85 atc?

Does anyone know if a 86 trx axle work on a 85 atc. Curious need to buy a sprocket for my 85 project but might wanna change. Thanks!!!

If I remember correctly the 85 has a  smaller carrier and wont interchange .the 86 will interchange

Yes it will.  The carrier is 85 only.

Steve is right on the money.

'86-later axle works fine in an '85 carrier. You just need to switch to an '86-later style sprocket! :) I have '86-later axles in both of my '85s.

thanks I knew the carrier was different buy did not know the axles interchanged

Yes Fred, the carriers themselves do not interchange. The '85 carrier has a smaller OD by about .080".

Thank God the later axles will work in the '85 carrier though! It can be hell getting your hands on an aftermarket '85 axle

A 400ex axle will fit right in as well. Just need the 400ex hubs.
