Anybody run this race? I am wanting to run it this year and need to fing out if they allow 3 wheelers.
Is there anything I would need to do to my bike for it?
-
Pricecheck ran it last year, it sounds like a blast and I would like to run beginner this year. When I asked pricecheck about it, he said pretty much show up and run.
-
Yes! It's run what ya brung. Plenty of racing of all sorts.
Tell ya like this, besides me wanting revenge on the course (because I blew my motor), I'm debating on leaving the quad in Oklahoma City with family and flying in from Alaska so I can race it in Tulsa.
If you have no family with you I'd camp out at the raceway. Damn I wanna go back!
-
On the three wheeler thing, didn't see any. I only saw three two strokes. Mine, a quadzilla and a banshee. I was the only one racing theirs.
Write them for info. They aren't the best at contacting but they will get back to you. And don't worry about prepaying. You can get there and just pay that morning of whatever race.
-
I am only 2 1/2 hrs from the track. I emailed and haven't got a response back. There was someone that was trying to get a 3 wheeler class a while back but didnt get enough to do it. I think I might be able to get a few to show up. I am going to show up and see.
I don't know anything about it so I didn't know if there was some prepairation that would help.
-
No 3 wheeler class, but I've seen'em run before. It's under an hour away for me. Went to Hallet last weekend for a CMRA 6hr endurance race that some friends were doing on sportbikes. They got 4th in class with a pretty much stock R6. I helped in the pits the whole race. It was fun and Hallet is a blast.
-
You might try calling K&N Yamaha here in Tulsa(Sapupla technically).
-
Thanks for the info. Norm there said he started the race 18yrs ago. He said if we can get at least 6 people we can have our own class. I know me and one other guy for sure and almost sure on 2 more.
-
Ive ran it the last 2 years on my TRX450R and I also popped a motor last year. It was probably my own fault my oil cooler came loose and I didnt know it. I will be back again this year on my TRX250R. As far as mods its mostly up to you. Last year I had a +2 front and rear and I ran 18" rear with 19" fronts 90% MX setup and it worked really good for me both years. This year I think I will be doing more of a XC setup.
-
Does anyone else have any plans on going to this race this year? I will be camping at the track with my family.
-
I am. I think we are going to have a 3 wheeler class. I need to start pushing my guys to get together
-
A few guys I ride with and I are planning on going, but plans seem to fall apart more times than not.

I SHOULD be there. It's abt 45 mins away and I've been doing it since the 90's(didn't go last year-plans fell apart and the weather seemed kinda iffy, along with me thinking WTF on some of the start times that prob changed anyways). Best finish I ever got was a 4th in quad am. No supermoto back then. That's what I'll run is supermoto BTW. I may also run beg open dirt bike on Sat and that will be xc since I've only raced a dirtbike once in my life and I'll be able to do it without a fuel stop. The xc race has longer stretches of pavement vs the supermoto which breaks it up more and has more obstacles(kinda in that I mean more closer together). We'll be running regular(not backwards) this year according to K&N yamaha. I'm out to have fun honestly and am not worried abt where I finish, espec in the dirtbike class-quads, well I tend to get more competitive(and crazier-I love pavement) on them HAHA). I've always preferred a more mx type setup there personally for either race, but that's just me... It may have some mud, but it's not deep that I've EVER seen. 18's always worked great for me
Bowtie I know exactly what ya mean abt plans falling apart. This year I'm gonna give a whole lot of friends chit if they try to back out!!!!!
-
Its looking like we wont have enough for a class. So I will run with the quads. May have some other guys coming.
Do I need to do anything to my bike or just show up and run? What classes are there? The website is cluttered and I am not sure what all they run.
I Know what you mean about giving friends crap about not showing up. They will never hear the end of it.
-
Just show up and run they have different classes but its all about what ever event you want to join in on and what class you choose to run.
Race schedule http://okgoldrush.net/Schedule.html
Race Classes http://okgoldrush.net/Classes.html
I intend to run quad beginner and quad MX on Friday, quad team race if I can find a partner, or I may just Iron man it and the night race if I can get some lights hooked up on Saturday, and sundays races will have to see what I have left in me and left for quads.
Would it be wrong to run the 250CC and under class for Fridays begginer quad, I am stock bore and only have a PTR TRX Type 6 pipe, and stock suspension other than a set of 450R front shocks. I think I would feel bad mixing it up with some blasters and stuff, but running a mostly stock quad against big bore, built suspsension 4 strokes seems kinda unfair to. Man it stinks being inbetween two classes, I feel I have to much for one but not enough for the other any personal opinions. I may just run open it would be way more humiliating to the 4 stroke guys to get beat by a mostly stock, stock/small bore 2 stroke.

The link you posted for the schedule is for lasat year, this year will be November 7-9th.

Crap my bad.
-
Just got a flyer in the mail, says there will be 3 wheeler class. I am going to try to find out if it will be run at the same time as the quads. I will try find this out and post it up when I do.
-
They need 5 to make a class. I know 2 guys from AR going and I was until I broke my bike. I don't know of anyone else going on 3 wheelers
-
Knowing how they usually do things, I'll bet 3 wheelers WILL run at the same time as the pros, ams and age/skill classes(all at the same time- it's a big track). I'm honestly waiting to see if I can take some vacation time to do this race-we're super busy at work. Also IDK how well I feel physically and am not sure I'll be able to hang on for the entire race and yes I mean just the short supermoto races. Getting old sucks! A pretty stock will do ok against the 450's if the rider is up to it. You prob won't win, but you will have fun. I have always wanted to do it(the xc) on a ATC, but mine is nowhere even close to running right now.
-
This is what they sent me yesterday afternoon.
In the Cross Country race, the 3 wheeler and quads will run together but will be scored separately. But in the motocross and super moto races the 3 wheelers and quads will have separate races.
-
Was out starting to prep my quad for the race and found a 2 inch crack in my swinger that I shortened years ago(not where I shortened it it lol). Luckily I have a spare that has been shortened also and some new bearings for the front of it. The welds look good enough to give it a try HAHA(where they cut it), but I doubt I'll use it much longer than the race-luckily the jumps aren't usually to big. Glad I'm not waiting til the last minute like the dune trip. That crack wasn't there before the dune trip. I'm guessing that after years of mx abuse plus that 8ft drop off to flat at the dunes plus all the jumping down dunes and whoops finally did it in. Anybody need a boat anchor?
-
BTW do y'all have enough to make a trike class? Mine is down, but I can make a call to Sandtrax and have them contact the only guy I've known to run it on a 3 wheeler and let him know that there is interest in a trike class. I'm not sure if the phone number I have for him is still good.
-
I was actually going to pick up a ATC250R or TRIZ for the race but, since we will be running together for the XC race im not going to.
-
Mine is down too. I only know of two guys going to run it. I have been trying to get guys to go six months ago. I was going to run it anyway until my piston broke.
I have good low hour stock cylinder I could get a piston for and get it together. But at this point I doubt I will.
-
I really wanted to do a trike race but i just dont see it as being worth it at this point. I have just put a brand new topend, chain and sprocket, tires, fresh fluids, grips and other things on the quad so at this point its stupid for me not to race it after the investment I have already made.
-
I plan on being ready next year. I am putting another bike together so I have backup. A year of riding takes its toll on equipment.
-
This will be my last year there. I will be moving in the summer next year so I wont be back for a while.
-
Got my 250R ready for the race, Did a topend, trans fluid, coolant, spark plug, air filter, chain and sprocket, all the grease points. I think shes ready to race hopefully I will see some of you out there. I will be there all three days with my TRX and LT 250R's in tow. If you guys see me feel free to pop in and chat.(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/687_3503_2017-04-18_7517.jpg)
-
I am so jealous. I want my revenge on that track but the way things are going I don't know when I will get the quad there. Being in Alaska sucks for making it down there but when I return I will be setup and ready to rip.
I expect some go pro footage guys. Maybe some editing from the trailer/truck area up to the brief and then staged. The MX jumps aren't huge and you can practically roll them if you're worried about breaking stuff. I hope y'all have a blast out there.
-
Well I will only be out for the Friday races now. Manditory fun at work on saturday night but at least I can get in two events. Going to run the begginer quad and motox friday.
-
5 days left, Im packed and loaded for 4 strokes, gonna go out and break some big bore 4 stroke hearts this year. Im running a factory bore, and 80% factory suspension wish me luck.
-
Wish I was going
-
Anyone else going Racing starts in 3 days whos gonna be there?
-
I WILL be there when I get back to the states.

I'll be there, but running supermoto Sunday and maybe a dirtbike team race Sat(not sure abt wanting to do that-haven't rode it in awhile plus IDK if we ever got a team together haha). It rained 1 1/2 inches here in Tulsa today btw. Still getting quad together, but it's piddly stuff like cleaning air filter(did that tonight-it's drying now), oil change to do, put on and double check all lug nuts and throw the plastic and fuel tank on. No gopro vids cuz I don't own one!
-
That super moto looks fun. I know the two stroke will kick ass on it. Keep it low and just know the first turn (bus stop) take it to the outside and come in. The XC race has this turn in it and I took it wrong.

When I get there I will def want to do a 250r team race! But this has to be completed first! (http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/04/a3d26192ff5a5cccf92086f8643fa172.jpg)

I went, I raced, I got my redemption, I got 4th out of 28, I turned second for second lap times compared to my old TRX450R, I packed up and came home, it was a long 23 hour straight day for me. It was a great race this year, 26 quads and 2 trikes in the Beginner open class, 1 trike was a 2014 ATC450R extremely nasty trike never seen one that fast in my life and handle that good, another was an 85 or 86 ATC250R and my 1989 TRX250R, other than that it was a 450 fest. Sorry no video my go pro was set to low on my helmet and was covered in mud by the 3 minute mark anyways. All I can say is I highly recommend you make a trip out there some time.

Sounds like my buddies out of arkansas on that 450. It is Definitely a nice riding trike. Very heavy though.
Congratulations on your run.
-
Nice ride!
-
Steve the trike was out of Arkansas and it was dang near untouchable on the pavement sections I the brief bit of video I have you see it just up and walk a way from my R.
-
Nice racing! I'm sure someone has video already up on YouTube that might show some of the R family.

I got 8th out of 13 in AM quad supermoto. Was able to get second to the 1st turn and run around in 2nd in my heat(I faded back to 3rd at the end), but the heats were only 4 or 5 quads per heat(the heat before me only had 2 quads in it(WTF?????). Not to bad for a little oem jug that's under 265cc I guess. It was hurry up and wait(for over 2 hours-it seems the bike guys cried about atv's/utv's kicking to much dirt onto the track) to finally get to race, then pretty rushed from the heat to the main. You could tell that some of us older guys weren't to happy abt it(nobody said anything, but you could tell by by both the way I felt and by seeing the looks on some of the other's faces-we were tired and would have liked just a little bit more time). Had abt 30 mins rest between heat and main to rest BTW. Was happy to have finished safely and for my little girl to get to see me race. At 43, I'm not getting any younger so IDK if/when I'll race supermoto again(it felt like we were the bottom of the barrel, 3rd[not even 2nd] class citizens, etc). I see more XC racing prob happening, but most likely on a bike honestly(and STRICTLY for fun). Don't get me wrong tho, it WAS fun.
-
My buddy on the 450 trike said it was the most fun race he has ever done. I will do my absolute best not to miss it next year. He was going to let me borrow a trike to race but after I blew my motor I made other plans.
Good job on the Rs. The 450s just have more power. I hope to have a 330 done by then.
-
That sucks that they rushed the super moto like that. Last year it went on for a while. I can see what you mean about the dirt. Last time I watched, I saw 5 bikes lay it down in one heat. Exciting.
Good job and I'm glad to hear nothing broke.
One thing about the gold rush is it seems like the organization just isn't fine tuned as it should be. For as long as it has been going on you'd think that it would have smooth transitions, their website would be more up to date and questions better answered. Hell, I asked if they sold race fuel at the track and they had no clue! It's only so big of a place.
But like y'all have said. It's definitely a blast. Regardless of the issues, I'd go back any year I could. I'm actually thinking of shipping my quad to family in OKC so it'll be there after my deployment and I flying in and renting a truck to haul it there to Tulsa so I can race.

It's fun(prob the most fun race I've done), but I've seen it done better other years there. I expect things to run over on time(it's always been that way), but this year supermoto was almost a joke on how much they put us off. Fact is the bikes go down regardless. I'm not saying lets make it more dangerous for the bikes, just that racing IS dangerous. All the OTHER events went smoothly and on time from what I saw while there. I've been going there and racing since 1995ish. IDK what the deal was this year on supermoto, but it was bad. Over 90% of the people were gone by the time we were racing. Many just do their race and leave. I've done it plenty of times and could care less if people watch or not usually. This year tho, I had family waiting to watch. I had fun, but it was frustrating too. Let's put your race off for a few hours and we'll see how you feel. I'll bet you'd feel the same way.
I'll be back next year, but the chances of me racing a quad, ESPECIALLY FOR SUPERMOTO, are slim to none
-
BTW I'm not trying to sound b!tchy, but am being honest about how the class I raced happened. I don't just ride quads/trikes, but dirt and street bikes too. I spend a lot of time at Hallet(not just for Goldrush) and I've seen Goldrush done a lot better there in the past. It was packed this year. For those that did stick around, they got to see the R1 powered utv do some supermoto. That was cool. Your friend on the 450 trike did great and it was fun watching him do some other events, but supermoto kinda sucked this year and the turnout for it showed by the number of racers. If you're gonna put us off and make us wait some, then I think it would be better to let us know beforehand. That is my point. Things not only got changed before the race, but during too.
-
Good write up. I didn't realize it was that bad. Usually super moto draws a lot of people (racing and watching) because it's exciting to watch, especially at the transition from dirt to asphalt near the "bus stop". That claims bikes as well as the following bus stop s-turn. I'll continue to look for video available.

Check out youtube and type in oklahoma gold rush for people's videos on the races.
It'll give you an idea on what the place looks like and gives an idea on what the races look like.

Here's a little video on youtube. Can't tell who's two stroke or ATC is on it but you get to see them for a little.

The two stroke is me, Thats my 89 TRX250R, and the guy on the ATC i meet and talked to him quite a bit while there. I was right behind you on the first lap when we hit the mud and you roosted the crap outa me and thats why my video was usless. Good run and good video though.
-
That's not my video. I was just watching them and I noticed the R and atc R.
I haven't been to gold rush for a few years but plan on making it the first year im back in the lower 48.

O ok well I'm not mad just hoped you didnt take it that way. I sacrified the go pro for the googles.
-
I didn't take it bad since I didn't race! Besides, if I were racing I'd say "maybe you should have been in front of me!" Haha.
I hope to see you and others in a few years when I come back.

Found some of the pics of me online(was hoping to see some of the full lock sliding sideways turns, but don't see any. Oh well). I'll be back next year as almost always, especially since it'll be the 20th anv. year race. Don't let my race report discourage anyone btw. This race is fun, but I'll pass on supermoto next year to get more track time(was kinda bummed that the supermoto turnout was low this year)! I hope the link works LOL.
