Title: Mission Quad Replacement JP250r
Post by: FerrinMotorsports on May 22, 2014, 12:53:32 PM
This build as some of you know is to duplicate/replace and improve on a Quad that my son had to sell while on deployment. This was due to the fact of finding out two weeks after deployment that his third son was on the way. Here is a pic of the quad I am trying to replace.....(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2018_2017-04-18_793.jpg)

So I was able to pick up a JP no-link frame for the project.
This is what the frame looked like when I received it...(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2030_2017-04-18_6012.jpg)

His original quad had the Walsh aluminum sub-frame on it as it was an 89 250r frame that had been modified by Walsh..I was able to find another Walsh aluminum sub-frame so
the first think i did was to take the JP frame to a friend of mine to relocate the mounting tabs for the rear sub-frame... And after that it was off to the powdercoater......(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2019_2017-04-18_9537.jpg)....

A better pic but after I had installed the no-link swing-arm...(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2031_2017-04-18_5759.jpg)

I also picked up a JP steering stem clamp to keep with the JP build....(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2032_2017-04-18_5185.jpg)

I then started to install the Pro-Trax a-arms ...(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2033_2017-04-18_7123.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2034_2017-04-18_4625.jpg)

But then because of concerns of maybe having to modify things I decided to check to make sure I had clearance between the Walsh radiator and shrouds and the sway-bar.  I have always mounted the sway-bar to the back of the a-arms mounts due to two reasons...One is with the sway-bar on the front it becomes another bumper and either gets trashed on or bent up. The other reason is that it is just another thing to get tied up with another quad on...Especially while racing on the ice as an Arena makes for tight racing...(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2035_2017-04-18_1331.jpg)

While trying to fit the radiator I found that the bottom radiator pins did not want to line up with the rubber mounts in the frame....(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_2025_2017-04-18_7841.jpg)

After some modification to the bottom mount rubber I was able to get the radiator to fit....Sorry no pic as I had to get to work.....I will update tomorrow as I hope to get more done on it....

Looks purrdy. How much lighter is that aluminum subframe?
What size bars are you going to use? ⅞ or 1⅛? I may have something for you.

I'm using Faast Flexx bars which I took apart and had the black powdercoated to the same color as the frame...So 1 1/8...

Thanks for the thought Hawaii!...Patman he knows nothing about it....He called me the other day and asked if he could get one of my oem 250r frames off of me so he could start to build one again......LOL

What branch of the Armed Forces is he in?

I always thought it would be cool to do an Air Force or Army themed build

TBone07 funny you mention an Army Air Force build....my next build is a duner quad....I'm going to call it the Dune fighter.....I have a graphics kit depicting nose art from an airplane from WWII....I have everything for it just sitting in bins...Just no time to put it together....TBone he is in the Army....Started as a E1 now is an E6 after 2 tours to Iraq and one tour to Afgagastan.....

That cool. He's asking for a stock frame and dreaming of riding again. He's gonna be so surprised! You better get his reaction on video.

Ok....update on this build......I had this thing called a wedding which kind of sucked all of my barely existent spare time away.... My son did get to see the quad in it's current state but didn't take it for two reasons....he didn't want me to rush the build and also the wonderful Army gave him a promotion and instantly transferred him to the state of New York...He is not sure of his housing yet so he wanted to get settled first....(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/118_3535_2017-04-18_4491.jpg)
Corrie on his way....

Anyways starting Monday I will be getting back to work on this to get it finished..Pics soon to follow....

Ha ha, there is no order on a bike build. You just put stuff on as you get it. Looking pretty sweet Jeff. Getting close to finished always feels good!

I'm loving this build. I'm a bit jealous. Lol. My favorite blue/polish/chrome themed build I've seen in a long long time. This is going to be a show stopper.

Your R looks bitchen! Nice job..... The slammed dually in the background looks cool too. You got steam rollers on that thing or duals?

I believe this is the hottest black custom colored R I've ever seen. Damn it sure looks good. Your going to get some serious looks and attention everywhere you go. Especially with that big chromed pipe.  Sweet ride buddy.

cant go wrong with the TRX11 ,

Thanks guys for all the compliments!....I still have to set up the suspension to get it to the correct ride height...The pipe is a TRX11 center-mount which after the graphics are finished it will go to the pipe builders to get the stinger enlarged and convert it to the dual silencer set up like my quad has...Yes the dually still has duals as I tow my 40ft race car trailer with it....

This is a poor quality pic but it gives you an idea as to what I had done with the Graphics....I have a New in the Package ESR Graphics kit so I went with that theme and this is what we came up with....I will get some better pics later this week...Happy Thanksgiving guys!

I think it looks great but just have one question.  What's keeping the seat from laying down against the tank?  Seatcover a little tight?

Seat cover is stretched tight....It usually stretches after use and after being in the sun..

I have ran the TRX11 since the early 90's starting with the original Zepplin model.... For mid to top end I haven't found a pipe yet that performs the way this pipe does...With my own quad with the powervalve cylinder, enlarged stinger, Dual silencer set up, and a 2001 Cr125.cdi The TRX11 makes power from bottom to top...It made the quad easier to race as you don't have to worry about keeping the motor"on the pipe"....

You know when I first started racing quads after the three wheeler my first motor was A Curtis Sparks with the Yamaha piston long rod cylinder and ran one of his First TT pipes he made....It was a mid to top end running motor but it also had a lot of torque pulling out of the turns....I liked the set up but it just wasn't competitive enough when the big bores started to appear...It would be interesting to try it out on some of today's set ups...As a matter of fact I still have the complete set up and I was thinking it would be cool to pull out my old battered racing frame and put it all back together...I even have the JL swaybar I used to run on it.....
