What do you do when your swing-arm is rubbing your center cases? Get a new frame? Put on a gusset kit to reinforce this area? Well the holes need to be filled up and redrilled. Only problem is weld is hard and you cant do it without a milling machine. I have been asked to supply an insert to renew this hole back to OEM. So I got a hold of my buddy who has his own shop. Made up a print and be busted these out for me.

You will have to scribe a line aroung the existing washer behind the swing-arm pivot. Use a die grinder or dremel tool to bore the existing slotted hole to 7/8". Weld in this insert and you back to a situation when they were purchased new. The step is exactly the thickness of the existing swing-arm pivot bracket.(.150")

i would get metric washers weld to exterior of frame and then back fill with weld on inside of pivot hole lil bit of grinding and good to go, but i like what ya got there that is pretty trick. i always tell myself i need a lathe to make stuff like that but i'm a backyard engineer haha.

You cannot put anything on the inside of the frame as the swinger would not fit. My first thought was to do as you said, just replace the outside washers with new ones. But washers are sloppy. I have .007" clearance with these. The swinger bolt is .587" and the hole drilled is .594" They are .360" thick. I measured 4 different frames and measured the holes anywhere from .597" to .620'. Just want to be on the tight side as they are severely abused.

i should have been more clear about the washer thing. i figured y0u should be able to buy a metric washer but some how in all my years of honda parts i have found washers that fit the swing arm bolt on the money . and i also did this to my 350x and at the same time after breaking 4 swing arm bolts on the x .i found that a kz650 swing arm bolt fits the x its a lil long but never broke it.

washers are under no reasonable tolerances that would benefit you. they are sloppy and out of round, stamped and getting a good alignment would be a miracle. tony did it how it should be done. backyard engineering has no place in the atv world. if that swingarm/pivot area fails at any given speed you are looking at a hospital visit at the least. also, backfilling with weld will only divert the forces to another weak point in the chassis.

I think what he was trying to say is it is better to take the time and fit this insert in place rather then weld on a couple washers. Like I said before I don't know why a new set of washers like the ones on your frame would not work for awhile. But these are 3/8" thick and will give you a permanent fix.

put it this way I welded those washer s on over ten years ago and my frame is just fine . I've owned it for 19 year's and plan on owning it for alot more. if you don't have any skills and are afraid to work on your bike thats on you . I have the tools and the mind to fix my own toys.

Great job tony. I have my own lathe. Made bushing for my frame last fall works great. Will save many people a lot of time and money. This is how it should of been from the factory

Hey Tony I noticed I have a little bit of slop in my pivot area after my last race but I think I caught it fairly early. Problem is I already have that area boxed in with your kit and its freshly powdered. Is there any chance I could get you to make me a collar Like those but with a thinner outside washer part? Like the step was machined out more towards the edge so that I could just leave the stock collars in place but grind the hole bigger and have the new ones just fit snug inside and sit there as a temporary fix until I strip the frame down again. I have a FourWerx titanium pivot bolt and I noticed i have some extra threads sticking out so a little extra width wouldn't hurt.
