I hate the idea of polishing but desire a set of nice shiny rad shrouds for my Laeger build. I'm considering buying a set and having them chromed along with some other items. How well does chrome adhere to stainless steel or is this a bad idea all together? What about aluminum?
Also, anyone know which shrouds work best with a PWRS rad?

This is a great question! Curious to see the answer. But I know chrome I alluminum is doable!

I suppose too may folks on here are partial to polishing....lol.

Doug, (OldschoolR) has his stainless shrouds chromed. So it can be done. Mine are polished stainless and have a darker tint to them than chrome. Chrome is more silver.

In wet areas aluminum tends to oxidize under the chrome and look bad in a few years.

Polishing aluminum is definitely, a labor of love! Get some of your favorite beverage, and buff to your heart is content.
I personally like the look of the mirrored aluminum.

Nice. I'm not much for keeping polished stuff looking good. Two fine examples thus far.

Your best bet is to chrome the stainless. I have never actually seen a chromed pair of shrouds myself. I think maybe a PM to Doug and he would get us a pic of those bad boys. He is having me make a set of stainless ones (plain) for his next build he is going to have chromed.

That's the direction I'm leaning. I've never seen a set either but I have a bunch of stuff that will need chrome so I was kinda thinking why not add the shrouds in with the batch.

I'll post up some pictures tomorrow, im out of town. I have some old rpm shrouds that I had chromed back in 97 and they still look good.

And they look good on both sides.

Those are the exact shrouds I'm thinking of getting.

Is that over aluminum?

Tony those are the old stainless rpm ones.

Those would be hard to polish to a mirror finish. I buy 1 sided mirror finish stainless and polish the second side when its flat.
