I had these stands setting around and thought I would make a bracket to attach a 250r frame to it. You just turn it over when you need to put another coat of paint on the other side. It is hard to do these by myself so I am set to start sanding this one. Its gonna get a coat of black then head to Hawaii.

I got tired of sanding the red frame and thought it would be better to start over. I just keep seeing Josh scratching the black frame and you would see this bright red underneath.
Sandblasted

Mixed up about a quart of black Valspar
(http://i60.tinypic.com/ndv490.jpg)
Some asked me to go through the paint process real quick. So starting out up side down you want to do a light paint on all brackets and welds. You will do a second coat right away to get the easy to get to sections blended in
(http://i60.tinypic.com/14wy70i.jpg)
Go back and get the spots you just missed. The paint looks like chit at this point all rough and scattered.

This is where the paint jig comes in handy. Give it 1/4 turn and lock in place. You can get to the brackets from all directions.

The paint is going on quite rough. But that is expected over primer. I did a quick 1 hour hand sand this morning before starting. Time the turn right side up and get everything else I missed from the other 3 planes

So now this is what you were expecting to see in the first pic lol.
After the rough couple ruff coats its time to start again on the bottom side. Painting over everything again and hitting those spot that have little paint on them or are ruff. It has been rotated 2 times and all but 1/4 quart of paint is left. This is when the candy coat comes in. Add another 1/2 quart of clear. So now there is 3/4 of a quart of clear with black as the tint. The first 3/4 quart covers the frame getting everything black. The second 3/4 is basically clear with a heavy back tint. If you were to start bare this second mixture would never get it black, you would always be able to see through.
Covered top and bottom with clear. Now is the time to put on a heavy coat to get the paint to lay flat.
-
The last coat is the one you have to worry about. Not enough paint and the surface will remain rough forever. To much paint and it will run. When you get done have someone look at it to see if there are any rough spots or places that need a touch more paint. I had to go back and touch up a couple times.

Why paint and not powdercoat?

Why paint and not powdercoat?
Convenience and cost.

Now that the paint is dry a reversible drill is what you use to chase all the painted threads on your newly painted frame. Otherwise it takes forever to take the tap out by hand.

Tony I couldn't figure out how to pm you on my phone. But do you do any frame mods/ rapairs for ppl? My frame needs your gusset kit & repairs to the subframe. Let me know please

If you are local we can work that out. Most the time frames are over a $100 to ship each way. I am doing the 87 gusset kit tomorrow. Then the next is the swingarm inserts for oblong holed frames
-
Yeah I am local. I'm in McMinnville. Its a 87 frame, I'll post a pic tomorrow of where my post for seat gromets sheared off. I could actually drop it off to you on my way down to reedsport not this week but next.

I have made replacements for when these mounts get crashed. If its only the tube part mashed up we may be able to just run a 1.2 round rod from one mount to the other. I have seen this fix before.
