Picked up a quad and it came with a DG pipe and silencer. Going for an OEM look. I would like to use this pipe. Are these decent pipes or is it scrap metal? It would look similar to oem and that is a big plus for me. My cylinder is ported so I can't run the stock pipe. Currently have an old Paul Turner TRX race on it and that doesn't run too bad but not the look I am going for. Thanks.
-
Well I am sure people will say it's a piece of junk, people also say this about the FMF and I am running one. Yeah the DG won't be optimum, but it is pretty easy to change the pipe out and try it. If you like it great, if not change it to something else.
-
Kind of my thoughts. I see I could still buy it new if i wanted to. It doesn't sound too popular though.
-
Popular no!! But if it pulls and hits where you need it to for yor application then so be it, dg it is....
-
Can't speak for the pipe but I have a DG silencer on my bike with a CT pipe and really like it. Has a good sound to it. Straight flow through design.

Please Explain pipe master, if a pipe works good for somebodys application why shouldnt they use it no matter the brand

Please educate then oh great one. I don't see you adding anything to the conversation.

I believe the DG pipe is an OEM replacement or comes quite close to the stock feel. My sister and brother in-law swear by that pipe. They have one on each of their 3 R's. 100% stock other than reeds and FMF silencer.

not necessarily true, not optimal, but you can use the stock pipe and silencer if you wanted to.

as for DG, their pipes mimic OEM bends and shape- therefore the performance should be similar to stock. I have no idea why you would want an "OEM" look to the pipe. If its a stock showroom peice put an OEM on there and let it sit there in a corner, if its a rider spend a little money and get a good performing pipe for it.

just because you use it doesnt change the fact its crap compared to a LRD or Sparks - for example

all silencers are straight through design
Now having said all that, Im grumpy and havent had my coffee yet. If you happy with it then whatever, good for you. at least you are riding and riding a 250r.
as I said - carry on

Straight.
I've read on this site and the other site that the turn down hurts performance. Sorry if I was misinformed. I didn't want to offend anyone or put any bad info out there.
-
we are piddling over nothing, but you are discussing the end cap, either way the flow is "straight through" the silencer.
-
Just because it is "crap" to you, doesn't mean it is crap to someone else. Many people run everything stock as well. To me those Sparks or LRD pipes are crap because they were not built to my motor designs.
-
Back in the day I had a coffmans and an fmf that were routed like a stocker and the dg. If you like that look you could even possibly mount a stock heat shield to them. Not the best pipes normally but...
-
Tim Farr used to be a big DG rider. Dunno if he used the pipes but he definitely used the silencers

Is it a black DG pipe ? Or the nickel plated Gary Denton signature pipe ? I had a buddy that ran the Gary Denton one and it pulled hard! He used it for MX and won quite a few races.....so it must have been good. It all depends on how the motors ported too! If it's not ported for the type of pipe you're using then it won't work well at all.

Gary Denton can pull the hole shot and often go on to win the race with a piece of stove pipe from home depot bolted to the side of his bike.:adoration::adoration:
I watched Gary when he was riding pro motocross as a privater. He would consistantly pull the hole shot riding a slower bike against some of out factory bikes. Our factory bikes would pull him off the corners and on the up-hills but he knew how to make the bike hook up off the line and time the starting gate better than anyone I have ever seen.

Yep.. winners win. They can change engine builders and win just the same. Always have and always will. There are a lot of builders that made a huge name for themselves based on pro result sheets but there are also, and have always been, lots of equal to better builders to them around.
-
Thank you for the opinions. From what I have gathered there are much much better choices out there. The machine currently has an old Paul Turner TRX race pipe on it I guess I will get it dialed in with that pipe and then change over to the DG and see what happens

Yes. This is why the factories and big named shops pay the big bucks and hire the riders to ride their bikes and quads. They know that a talented rider is going to win and make any brand or shop look good regardless of what brand of bike they are riding or whose shop flag they are flying.

I have an an old bills pipe the has the oem look. Don't much about the power but I would sell it.
-
After riding this thing around with my old duncan trx race pipe, I decided to leave that pipe on there. It just seems to run soooo good this way, I don't want to mess with it!!!
