Got it out yesterday, still struggling with cold starts but once its lit and warmed up, it runs great. The only carnage was the upper chain roller nut loosened up and fell off. I have no issue with the vibrations yet, it's really noticeable at an idle and at the top end, it is violent at the top end. Should have some pics after today's ride

The Zilla will easily walk away from either of the Honda 500's. But to be fair to the Honda's the Zilla has been ported by Jerry Hall, V-2 reeds, PWK 41mm and the Honda's are stock other than reeds

Thanks, Maxx
If you still have your honduki frame we may have to talk. How is your bug coming along?
-
Day two, no carnage all is good need too experiment with gearing a little. Runs awesome all the low end grunt i had expected. So far quite happy with the results.

Thanks, Maxx

Yep still have the frame tucked away.
Bug is slow going a lot of fab work. Picked up a pinto engine out of a rail for it and a 091 trans :)

After five days of riding and pretty much riding only the TRX500R i am very satisfied with the results. Cold starts are not an issue anymore, runs awesome, dropped a tooth up front like the gearing much better now. So far it is staying together with absolutely no issues, the vibration is nowhere near as bad as all the stories i have heard. Good to hear. We'll keep our eyes out for you tomorrow. Should be on the sand around 11AM.

Where are you camping? I'm in Half Moon Bay group site A.

Cool, I have a 500 and a spare frame, might need to come see you and check out how you put it in the frame. I love my 500 but it wears me out anymore riding it in bike form in the dunes, quad forms alot easier and I like the torque and sound of a good ole 500 cc 2 stroke.

We'll be staging out of the 3rd parking lot and staying at the Winchester Bay Inn.

We are back home after a week at Winchester Bay, I screwed up my reservations and had to move out of my site Friday afternoon so we did not get to ride much Friday and we left Saturday afternoon. I apologize to the group down there now I really wanted to meet up with you guys. Real happy with my 500 build it worked awesome. The vibes are nowhere near as bad as i have read or heard. I did have some failures, the nut for the upper chain roller backed off, a lock nut cured that. My air filter mount broke, I will rubber mount that and one of my silencer mounts broke and will rubber mount that as well. I rode this quad 80% of the time I was there, every day. Trail rides, playing on the dunes no issues at all. Flat out in fifth it is pretty violent, but still not that bad. Long term results are yet to be seen, but after 8 days of riding I am happy with the results and consider the build to be a success. I will get some pics and video up soon.
