Today we were at Sand Lake, got my motor warmed up and headed out to ride. Within 5 min. it just died on me. Came back in, tinkered a little and back out, boom a few min. died again. It would idle fine but as soon as i started to get on it it would completely die as if I hit the kill switch. It would start right back up but quit if I got on it at all. I had another bike with me so I started swapping parts, everything but the stator, no luck. Other bike was running fine with both sets of parts, checked the carb, kill switch, connections etc, no luck. I had this bike out about 2 months ago and no problems. I think I'm leaning towards the stator, but like I said it would Idle fine, but lights were real dim. Any ideas, Dunefest is right around the corner...thanks Ron

You can check the stator with an ohmmeter to see if its within acceptable range.

I was going to do that tomorrrow, just got home, it's shower and bed
-
and if it is within specs ?
-
I'm willing to bet its the stator 100%. My bike did the exact same thing. Unless you're out of fuel :disillusionment: lol
-
Sounds goofy, could be stator, or could be a fuel issue too. Never rule anything out in these things man!

I always say it; but check the coil. the coil will trick you.

OK... everything checks to spec except the lighting coil which reads 1.3...spec is 0.1 - 1.0, time to pop the cover I guess. I'm hesitate to think it's fuel as it died suddenly just as if the bike was turned off,and started right back up after about a min.

How is your compression? Probably not likely but i got half way similar symptoms when i had a hole burnt down to the first ring on my piston. It would fire up but if i put it on a hill she would die, then fire right back up.

Well this is a little embarrassing...the only part I didn't switch yesterday was the coil. Switched it with another one this morning and found out one of the connectors was loose, ran it around the loop and it seems were good to go, managed 5th gear up a hill. Thanks for all the replies.

Good, at least it was something simple!
