I was lurking in the chatbox, and there was some talk about RD engines. I have wanted to make a post like this for a while but that was the push for me to do it. I have a 1974 RD350 and it got me thinking what you guys have (other than a 250r)?

This was my dad's bike. for all my memorable life, this bike was sitting under the stairs in my basement collecting dust. Last fall I rescued it, pulled it out of the basement, cleaned it up, got her running and now it sits on my friends porch (a step in the right direction). I have most of the parts needed to make her road worthy, just don't have the time atm to give her the love she needs.

This is my friends 1984 RZ350YPVS (soon to be mine :character0029:). It was given to him in bad shape without forks or wheels. I am looking for a ninja 250/300 with a blown engine to throw the RZ engine in to.
So, what 2 stroke bikes / atv's do you have?
-
I got a Blaster with a 240 engine in it, actually hauls a** !! Going to be my sons when he gets older, hes 8 months old now!!!
-
I was thinking about weed wackers / chainsaws when I posted. Some of those modded saws and weed wackers are sweet. Quite a few out there with 80cc dirtbike pipes on them!
Blasters are great bikes. Not going to win any races or popularity contests with one, but perfect to learn how to ride a 2 stroke on and parts are cheap.
-
Just the R right now. Had a Tecate 3 in pieces and a Tecate 4. Just recently sold my cr 125. I do have a collection of old chainsaws. My favorite is an early 70s Poulan 361.

got this about 1.5yrs ago brandnew. wasnt sure it would have enough power since i mainly have 500cc stuff but i was pretty suprised its a zippy little son of a bitch. honestly i think it would beat a stock 500. damn near as much power and about 20lbs lighter

2 Suzuki LT80's
Polaris Scrambler 90
Polaris Trailblazer 250
Polaris Scrambler 400
And of course the R
-
Everything I own has had some 110 and Amsoil put through it.... But my only 2 stroke units are the R's, chainsaw and weed whip. Truck, mower, etc, we'll they like 110 sometimes....
-
built raptor 660
tri-z
85 kx125
and the most prized whip = 1975 kv75

built raptor 660
How did you convert that to 2 stroke!?!?!? Lol
-
i thought the thread title meant 2stroke bikes, or all other bikes LOL

That's a bada$$ bike! My friend in Reno recently got a 2014 XC-W 250 that he desert races. He has an 03 CR250 that he lets me ride whenever we go there but on our last trip over Memorial weekend he let me ride the KTM & I was blown away by how smooth & powerful it was. I want one now.................... Sorry for the thread jack but I love KTM's.

Been poppin wheelies on my lt80. Lol (my sons first quad)
-

Bikes can be a very generic term lol
-
2 blasters
3 TRX 250rs plus another 2-3 projects
CR125
zilla
zilla motor in a LT250r
KDX50
I think I am forgetting something, but those are my 2 strokes
-
88 R and a 03 yz250
-
Banshee in pieces
LT80-sons
Polaris Trailblazer 250-wifes
And don't let someone pull up on you with a Blaster and pull on you down a straight. I know of one that smokes stock cylinder 250rs all the time, and it is not even a big bore Blaster.

This and a yz125 that i toasted in Oregon last time I was there ill probably just sell it I dont feel like putting the time into it.
-
3-250r's, CR500,and I just bought a 2014 KTM 250 XC to hit the woods with should be fun
-
3 R's 05 yz250 85 cr500
The yz has been a pretty impressive ride(and has no problem outrunning my friends 01 cr250 that's actually a 280) . The cr500 is wicked fun. Nothing like 3rd gear launches and tons of torque with wheelies only a slight twist of the wrist away:)
Nice looking KTM up there too, but I think I'd want a 300 for the woods riding I mainly do(preferably prob a Beta since I'm dreaming anyways). If I'm spending that much tho, I'd prob end up with a Service Honda 500 (or a new v twin or v4 sportbike). What's a few more thousand LOL. It's only money!
I just CAN'T make the switch to a 4 stroke(except for the street and that's only cuz nobody makes a streetlegal new 2 stroke that's affordable- look up the Ronax 500 for something cool). I'd prob be faster on a 4 poke offroad, but I ride for fun(mainly) and therefore own 2 strokes. Plus 2 strokes are so much easier to work on and cheaper to maintain.

That Ronax thing is sweet, never heard of it. It sounds cool, but then I saw the price tag ($136,460). One day I would love to find a moto GP bike like an rs250, rgv250 or ns250 but no way i can even think about something like that now.
Beta's are sweet too. I'm in NJ, and they are extremely picky about titling and plating enduro motorcycles. The new KTM EXC's can't get a plate here since they put 'for offroad use only' on the MSO, but the Beta can! I've mentioned Beta's to a friend so often he almost accused me of being a salesman for the local dealership.
I agree with the can't make the switch to a 4 stroke thing, a broad power band just isn't exciting. Just like the saying goes: 2 strokes are crazy, 4 strokes are lazy
At the same time, I don't hate on 4 strokes, they have their purpose. I wouldn't want to see a 2 stroke utility quad or similar. That's just not the type of riding I like to do.

I picked this beauty up last fall. It's fully stock and I was pleasantly surprised how well it performs, both the motor and suspension. As we all know the R defined the golden age of quads, but now that I have an LT I think they got a bum rap.

Back in the day Honda would only lease NSR500's to teams/privateers and that was for a million a season(you got some spare parts too:)). The ronax is a steal at under 150,000 HAHA.
I never even bothered to look at the Ronax price honestly cuz I knew it would be crazy!

never tried the xcw version but i know theres quit a bit of difference between xcw and sx. head, cdi box, crank, tranny, flywheel, just to name a few. i ended up putting on a 300 cylinder. pulls quit a bit stronger in the lower rpm. been real happy with it
-
That's why I didn't buy the xc-w and bought the xc because its closer to the sx than the xc-w
-
whether its xc ,xcw,sx they all have a place and time. depends what your using it for
-
The Ronax is cool, especially because it's a 2-stroke, but it's not my first choice. If I had that kind of money and I was looking to find a rare/expensive and fast streetbike, I'd be looking for a Honda NR500. Oval piston, 32-valve 4-cylinder. I know, it's not a 2-stroke so doesn't belong in this discussion, but I think the technology and innovation of the oval piston makes it way cooler than the Ronax.
-
Here are the other two-strokes I own. First up is my 1984 Yamaha PW50 for my son that runs like a champ. Next is my 1987 Kawasaki Tecate. Yes, it's a real 87, and I bought it from the original owner last year. What sucks is that they can't be enjoyed right now because we're stationed in Korea, and they're back in Oklahoma. Oh well, they'll be there when we get back to the States.

Besides the '86 R I have a '83 ATC 250R and a '97 LT80 that my daughter rides. Of course, also have 026 Stihl chain saw and weed-wacker! Can't beat the HP for the size!
