Title: 400ex Hub Setup
Post by: bholzgen on July 11, 2013, 10:59:00 PM
I have lonestar +2 a-arms with factory spindles.  The ball joints are adjusted as far as they can go, and there is still too much negative camber.  I was told 400ex spindles fix this issue?  If so I would be interested in buying a 400ex front end setup.

Thanks, Blake

Hubs won't change your camber but the spindles will...

Ahh sorry there. I believe the 04-05 450R spindles work as well and utilize twin piston calipers.

The 06+ work well also. :encouragement:

Good to know! For some reason though the 04-05 sticks in my mind as being more desirable?

I do believe the 04-05 have a better turning radius. Not 100% positive on that. Better geometry, in some area. My type of open trail and woods riding, doesn't require that advantage.

For an 07 TRX450R, I paid $150.00 for everything needed.

I have a set of 400ex spindles at the house somewhere. I'll look for them if you are interested. it's just the spindles...no hubs or calipers.

Don't forget you can use the yfz calipers (dual piston) with the 400ex stuff. I got a fresh black pc set of 400 hubs if you piece it together...cheap.

Purchased a set from Dan Hung.  Thanks for the help guys!

However after installing the new 400ex front end parts I still have negative camber.  Come to find out, 3 of the four ball joints on my +2 LSR arms are short.  One is longer, allowing the camber to be where I want it.  Does anyone have a longer upper ball joint?  I have no idea what kind of ball joints they are either... I will try to get photos.  Going to need help with this one guys!

Here is a photo.  I can post better photos of the ball joints if needed.

Take the ball joints out bud and take both a long and short to NAPA and they will help you out and its much cheeper than buying from LSR. Unles you talk to spiretaces about your lsr ball joints, he mite be able to see what they cost for you since they are his neighbor now where he lives

04-05 450r spindles are the best bet in my eyes, for geometry and being able to find them cheap

A tip that might help you with the ball joint/camber issue:

Take the nut off of the lower balljoint (the one on the outside of the arms closest to the tire)  run the balljoint all the way in and just use the nut on the inside of the a-arm (side closest to the frame)

This will pull the spindle closer to the a-arm on the bottom and give you a lot more adjustability out of the top balljoint

Also the closer the ball joint is the a-arm (more threads penetrating the arm) the stronger it is
