Title: To hump seat or not to hump seat, that is the question.
Post by: Bowtie316 on July 21, 2014, 06:21:15 PM
Rebuilding my 88, I wil start a thread soon.  I like the looks of the hump seats by quadtech and fourwerx, are there any drawbacks to having the hump?  Do I have to modify my foam or is the hump added to the stock foam?

Feel free to post hump seat pictures if you like.

Bruns got um. The hump is a added on piece. I think he said the humps were about 4“. I wanna say he went with jetrim.

Jettrim is another place to get a custom seat cover. I choose not to do the hump. I don't like sliding on the seat and hitting a bump. My buddy has a hump seat and loves when he moves he slides into the hump kind of like a backing, I don't.

Jettrim will send you a piece of foam to add to the seat. Or you can send it in and they will cover it for you. Mine fit great and was easy to install with not creases

I really think it's personal preference.. I've rode a couple of bikes with them over the years and they weren't really my thing - seemed to get in the way a bit when riding but that could probably be solved after getting used to it.  Plus I don't think they look good on a dune bike :D.  But for racing applications, maybe they have some merit.

I like the hump personally
I've had quadtech jet trim and fourwerx, the quadtech was my favorite

Still can't decide, I like the looks, but have never sat on one.  I think I'll probably have to get the hump and see if I like it.

It may really depend on what type of riding you do. For example, for mx I would think you wouldn't like it. I could see it getting in the way of leaning far back during whoop sections and rollers. But for a different type of riding, it might be a good thing. I could see it possibly being a problem if you are a tall guy.

Im 6' 1" and ride MX.  I will only run hump seats.  It keeps me forward on the bike.   Whoops sections you better not have your but on the seat anyways, other wise your going slow.

No one was implying actually sitting on the seat while going through whoops. lol. But I lean back over the back of the seat when skimming over whoops. This is pretty common. I just figured it might be a little more difficult to get back behind it, but sounds like that is not the case.

My point is if your doing whoops right, you shouldn't even know there's a hump there.  Maybe a hump seat is less preferable for a short person.  Im just throwing my .02 in.

Ya i have several shots in my last year season video going through a long section of whoops carrying the front end with my but back over the hump.  I dont think its an issue, but i comes down to rider preference.

There are also different heights you can get. Looks like 86-250rbuild has a smaller hump. Looks nice!

I just ordered a hump seat from jettrim, I should have it in a couple weeks, won't have it on a bike to ride it for another couple weeks after that. If it looks real nice, I will probably never complain about the hump lol.

I don't really like a gripper seat, not to mention a hump too. The only time I like a gripper is when it's super muddy, but I don't ride in that anymore. I like being able to slide around easily on the seat so I'm pretty sure a hump seat isn't for me. They do look cool tho. I'll just have to see if Sam or someone will let me ride their quad for a few minutes at the dunes to know for sure. Please take pics and tell us if you like it when you get it.

Can you get one without the gripper material on top where you sit? I might like one then if you can.

There are 4 areas on this seat that you can pick the material. I got the medium grip. I'll post pictures and review when I get it.

You can pick the material for every section of the seat. I choose the gripper only on the top. This way the sides are a bit slippery and can maneuver easier than if the gripper material wrapped the sides too. Definitely a personal preference. send pics with you final decision!
