Hi I have a 86 trx250r that has a airstriker carb on it that was done by bdt motorsports I've had a problem with it starting running I've tried setting all the needle pin settings and never stays running as soon as I give it has it Boggs out also tried switching to the stock carb and did the same thing if any help would be great thanks Dustin

Check all you electrical connections. Especially the ground. I had similar issues and my ground connection was corroded

as mentioned check connections, including the plug cap also make sure you are getting plenty of fuel to the carb,
-
All wires and connections are good and not corroded just rebuilt it from ground up and it seems like it's getting to much fuel cuz it's spitting gas out the exhaust flange in the front and i always have to have the throttle kinda turned to keep it running could it have to do with my throttle not being right? I have a twist throttle on it
-
you need to pull the carb and see what jets are in so you can compare to other setups.
I would also check the float adjustment if the float level is to high it make the bike run very rich with fuel
-
Idk what jets are in now but I'm guessing close to the extra set I have but I have a 162 main jet and a 45 pilot jet and I haven't checked the float level yet but idk how to set those without messing it up if its not leveled
-
Confirm that the crankcase hasn't filled up with fuel. Does it act flooded? Keep fresh spark plugs in it until you figure out the issue.
-
Yea it seems like it's getting to much fuel and spits out the front of the exhaust flange can never keep it running for more than 3 mins tops and as soon as you let off the gas it stalls out
-
I think it is a float level problem. I too had float level issues with a bdt carb that i purchased used from a parts lot. Are all of your electrical components OEM?
-
Yea everything is oem it never use to get spark at first but put a new wire harness on and got plenty of spark but seems to be getting to much fuel
-
Just for elimination purposes, have you checked your reeds to make sure 1 is not hung or broken off...And its not hard to get the float height close if you don't have a way to measure with I've been checking my carbs like this for years and never had a problem...just pull the bowl and put a piece of fuel line on fuel inlet, long enough so you can blow in it fuel line and look at the carb from side push the float up until it cuts off the air your blowing in,and when needle valve cuts off air flow ,the float/float body should run parallel with the carb body(the flat part where the bowl screws on)..hope theirs helps some..

????? Does this mean your running your engine with no pipe on it????? or is the fuel getting past the pipe to flange seal?
-
You need to tear apart your carb, verify exactly what jets are in there (including what needle, and clip position) and get back to us.
Also check the reeds, do a compression test.
What spark plug are you using?
-
I would guess stuck floats as well. To be getting that much fuel it spits out the exhaust.

A 145 pilot is not gonna be that rich for sure unless its plugged  If your running a BDT carb, it has to be the best!
-
Its pretty odd that it does the same thing with two different carbs. try turning the fuel off while running and see if it starts to rev while opening throttle as some of the fuel is used up in the bowl.
-
The two carb thing is goofy, make sure your whole ignition is oem, plug gap .018, reeds are good, air screw 1.5 turns out, clean air filter, clean exhaust.

It has a 45 pilot jet in it and a 162 main jet in it and I turn the gas off and it still does the same thing could have to do with the slider adjustment ? The needle position is in the center my dad thinks it has to do with the twist throttle and cable possibly? But does anyone know what the readings should be for the stator so we can test it and see if it's bad or not ? Any help would be great thanks
-
I tore it apart yesterday and checked all the connections and they are all good and is getting plenty of spark idk what the air screws are suppose to be at on the carb with the jetting it has but does anyone know how to check to see if the stator is bad or know how to check it? And the reeds on it are also good been trying to have someone who knows what there doing to come look but can't find anyone and don't have the money to take it to a shop just want to ride the quad before winter comes around miss riding lol any help would be great thanks
-
If you're getting spark then you should be fine, as far as electrical issues go. Not sure how to test a stator but you could get a spare from somebody and swap out parts.
Start getting spare electrical components and swap them out to eliminate the issue. Could be a bad CDI box

Alright ill have to get that checked ASAP and ill get back to you guys thank you
