Title: new 250r owner S.D CA
Post by: sbixel on August 03, 2014, 10:31:24 PM
first time quad owner, but not completely new to the two strokes.
I picked up a mixed trx250r (87 engine, 89 frame) from a family member that traveled back home after his military stint was over. got it cheep but he had had just dropped 1,200 into a complete top and bottom rebuilt. aprox 2 hours into riding the motor just (seized) and water flowed from the weep hole like the Nile. I took it back to the shop (were he held the motor for a year putting in a new piston and rings). needles to say i was excited to get it back and put the R back together needles to say the shop accomplished nothing. fluid still flowed from the weep hole. Researching on this forum I discovered the real underlying problem. (http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/989_2726_2017-04-18_5942.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/989_2727_2017-04-18_5727.jpg)   the counter balance and its drive gear are mangled and the water pump bearing retainer is shattered.
Q? is the case cover still usable; is there a preventative for counter balance bearing failure from beaning this catastrophic?

Very strange you have no oil  in your transmission. Is the impeller missing from the clutch cover or did it just break off?

was hoping the shop drained the oil. the impeller was busted off
After your comment, it does seem to have been ran without oil.
thanks for the reply. by any chance do you know of anywhere to pick up a used right case cover and clutch basket.

silverlake250r has a nice clutch basket for sale, it used to be mine and ran fine!
