Can this be repaired or do I need a new case. I have a case lined up to buy if it can't be tig welded.

im sure it could be tig welded and cleaned up, its more of a matter of preference on your end if you want to run mismatched cases, or a welded cleaned up case with cost factored in
-
From what I've heard, that's an extremely tough spot to repair.

I had a motor with a repair in that place and it still leaked!

Lol, point proven I guess. I have a hairline crack right there on a set of cases, I'm gonna risk it and have it repaired someday.

I'm trying to stay away from splitting the cases if I can

Well you're definitely sol there bud. Unless you want to bj weld the crap out of it and say some mighty powerful prayers, because let's be honest, jb ain't fixing that alone.

If I have to ill run mismatched cases.

Wasn't even considering that route

The only way to correctly fix that is by splitting the cases, welding, and cleaning up the counterbalancer area, because the cases are alluminum, they will bend/twist/change shape. So cleaning up the inside will be needed.

I may have just lied a little. Sorry.
-
mismatched cases may also have mismatched mating surfaces throughout, including ones not able to be seen with the naked eye. i would get a matching set
-
Ill report back tomorrow with what the shop says and pics if they weld it

I'd hunt for new cases and still "try" to repair those. Pull the guts out bolt the cases back together to help keep true. Lay your bead and say a prayer.
