Title: My Re-builds That are on Going
Post by: Rupp250 on August 08, 2014, 09:13:35 PM
Well I figured I would chronicle the rebuild of a couple of my R's. I've slowly been collecting parts for a Drag/Dune bike. Had a lot of fun running it that way. but have recently picked up a dedicated drag chassis. Well it is still sitting 2hrs away for 3 months already paid for. So now I will have a dedicated Dune bike. I also picked up a stock 86 250r from a forum member back in April. This will be my trail bike.

So this bike will be going back to a Duner.

The plan so far is to run
363 Sphinx ported by Nate McCoy
ESR5CM piipe
+2 Arms
2+2 Durablue Axle I got from PortedR(AJ)
+1 Stem(Still need)
Aftermarket Stock Length SwingArm (Still need)
Works Shocks by Evan @ Schmidty Racing

I update the other stuff as I redo them.

This is the bike that will be staying fairly stock.

It will have
stock Cylinder setup by Nate McCoy
Works Shock from Scmidty

The drag Bike I will post pics and info as I get to it.
Wife is having our second son any day so racing and trips this year is done. My next ride will be Glamis for Newy Years and the drag bike should be ready for Bakersfield next year. Which is usually late March.

wow! rupp; the top pic was a realization of the power most drag racers are working with.  your pic clarifies the volume and tenasity these engines create.

Yeah Nate is a great guy. Someone I truly am grateful to know. It is nice that I am close enough to him to drive over to his house.

Oh and don't mind the dirty garage floor, it is stained. I need Jon to come through and strip/polish them up for me.

Also the diapers are not for me. Just to clarify.

I have plenty of stuff to update this with. Just have to get some pics and descriptions. But here is a random. Maybe next project? That is my Sphinx head on it for comparison.

Here is where I am at now. Chassis is raw, got it back from the sand blaster. Just have to mock everything up. But, that is a little hard to do since I am working 15 days straight. I'll do a better job of taking pics and posting up going forward though.

Here are the other bikes. The Sphinx is ready to go back into the white bike. Then later this year that one will be torn down and powdered as well.

Its nothing special.
Here is the upper. I picked it up during black Friday deals for $207 shipped. The lower is a Tactical Machine 80%. This will be just a cheapie paper puncher.

went out in the garage today and did a little tinkering with the duner. Took the baby motor out and put in the Sphinx. Changed up the motor setup from alky to pump gas. Also went from vforce3 to a see of ESR reeds. Also putting on a stator set up for a lighting circuit.

Made a little progress lately. Last 3 months have been extremely busy. Actually have more progress done than this shows. Motor is in. Tank and electronics mounted. Need to build pipe mount and rear caliper mount for a small single piston caliper. Hopefully take it to the beach when I go for my birthday early December.

Went out for a  fast dune ride Saturday afternoon by myself. The boy doesn't go very fast and Bro-in-law doesn't ride much plus he was already having some cold ones. Bike was running strong, nothing abnormal. Played with a couple 450's, headed back towards camp. Was going across a long flat/wooped area in 5th. Heard a little rattle, pulled the clutch and hit the kill button. Got off the bike and checked things over, nothing noticeable but I knew. Put it in gear and it was locked up.

Took my helmet off and started pushing. I was 1/4 mile from closest camp, and a mile from my own camp. Luckily after 10min some guy seen me pushing and drove out into the dunes and got me. Threw like bike in the bed of his truck and off we went. Got to camp, unloaded it, and played on the stock bike for the rest of the weekend.

Got home Sunday night, Monday cleaned the trailer, cleaned the bikes, pulled this motor and put a stock one back in. Put it back in the trailer and off to storage they went. Not sure what will happen next motor wise. The motor was built 3-4years ago I think. Ran 110, then had another dome cut for alky. Ran some drag races with it. Now it has/had a pump gas dome(tired of buying 110, but was running TORCO 100)  Oh well shit happens. Not the first to go boom and wont be the last.  At least this was at Pismo, which is close(4hrs) instead of Glamis (10hrs) Been there and blew up a bike in the first hour. Haha

At least you got it before it completely let go. I to have blew a bike up in the first half hour. Luckily my cousin had a spare.

I got to go last year. Was out in Santa Maria for training. Once I realized I was so close, I stayed the weekend. Drove up on Saturday, rented a 400ex from Arnies Atv rentals. I beat the piss out of the bike, and with its stock suspension it returned the favor to me.

Jared, its a little bit like Flornece, but smaller. You can't ride in any trails...that I could find anyways. It was still very cool, but I wouldnt say it would justify a special trip.

Yeah, just BSing. They are not the best dunes, but they are the closest ones to me.
Funny story though, we were there one time and this group of kids from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Just showed up with tents, no bikes, just came to party. Well they start drinking around 10am. I swear they played Katy Perry " I kissed a girl" on repeat for hours. Well around 4 my wife says hey look at them. Yup here comes 2 girls from the water hammered, topless, and making out. I said I didn't care if they liked it or not cause I did.
