is there anything different i should know with the pv cylinder as opposed to a non pv? never had 1 before
-
normally within 10min i let it rip
disclaimer : take extreme caution when following anything i do
-
No differences in break-in procedure. I do about 4-5 10 minute heat cycles. 2-3 10 minute slow riding sessions at no more than 1/2 throttle. Then let her rip.
You also can't go wrong with Duncan's break-in procedure. Although most will say it's a little much, better safe than sorry.

That is for sure! PV makes no difference on how you break it in. Just to be safe I never go over 3/4 throttle on the first tank of gas. I have fried many a piston going to heavy on the throttle the first day. Always a complete tank just messing around. Relax and enjoy your new bore!

do you happen to be using amsoil ? :congratulatory:

Honestly I really haven't done "proper" break ins
I got my motor back from nate ,started it up a few times ,checked for leaks ,went 300 foot racing next day
I recently pulled the head ,everything is super clean and lubed and great compression

I use this same method, Tbone. Overkill or not, this procedure works. I little extra care paid up front beats frying a piston and a fresh bore again.

Drag race builders put a .005 clearance on the piston too keep from seizing up at the track. When using the recommended .003 clearance you need a little time for the piston to wear in.

No "proper" break in on anything I run. Put it together, couple heat cycles idling in the garage. Recheck nuts bolts, let it rip.
And Ported R's motor is not a drag motor either. It is a dune setup that he just used to go racing.
-
^^^^ I have always done the same myself. ^^^^
I am not saying it is right and you should do what you feel good about but I have always and will likely always do this.

i dont understand the .005" for drag racers. whats the theory behind it supposed to be ?

thanks guys i just wanted to be sure. hopefully get around to putting everything together sat.
