I'm thinking of getting some of these mohawks but wanted to see if anyone has used them and if they really work better than dirt tires.

I've been running kenda mohawks on my bike for over 20 years & like them because there light & they look good but I didn't notice much difference in traction between those & dirt tires. My front end caught ruts & moved around a lot with the mohawks until I got a stabilizer. If your looking for traction razorbacks might be a better option but heavier.

i just bought a set of front dwt doonz tires. they have shorter "mohawk" in the very center, then another short row of mohawk offset to the inside a bit. the traction is nominal really, but i like them since they dont fling sand up on you when cruising like dirt tires in sand do, also they were significantly cheaper than the skat mo-hawks.

I have razorbacks(the cheap ones-not skat traks) and they do help. Mainly when sidehilling and such, but also when turning in general. They do tend to grab ruts a little bit more, so mohawks may work better for not being so grabby. I dune rode for 20 yrs without them and just used dirt tires. I say buy them, as it's only money and you already have a ton in LSR HAHA. $800 carb, may as well have some mohawks too. I bought the wider, but not taller front sand tires(21x8x10 I believe). I bought them for like $43 a tire and put them on the cheap STI wheels(I forget the brand of tire-not kenda tho). They weren't a bad investment for the price, but they don't make the dif that rears do. A stabilizer will prob be my next investment(after that road race bike I showed you last nite LOL). Time to buy some leathers if it makes it thru the weekend!

Good point Jesse abt the dune tires not flinging sand on you. It's not like knobbies  did it much, but sand tires do it even less. So much sand at the dunes, that it's hard to notice a little more sand :). I did mine to see if there was any performance improvement and there was, but how much depends on your wallet and how much you use them.

I like the mohawks because they are lighter, but if you are looking for a better steering tire, go with a continuous rib like the sand star or dune tracker.

Agreed.  I've been running mohawks for a lighter tire and running skat-trak in the rear so they both have that "buffed" look.  I ran a full rib before and honestly didn't notice that much of a difference after the switch.

Oh yah and some don't have the buffed look!  I actually bought mine second hand because I didn't want that smooth rubber look.

I might be lazy and not put on the fronts...seems like knobbies have better steering.

I would like to try the dwt or the maxxis that they copied some time. I have ran mowhawks alot and like them but they do track more then std stock knobs. Oem fronts do well in the dunes but I prefer to run a mowhawk or like I said the dwt  and maxxis look like I would like them.

I've ran the Kenda/GBC molded type tires before and never had an issue besides the weight.  Fully buffed Mohawks look sweet and are light.  If you like the floatation of a 22" tire, Cascade Innovations sells their "Cascade Cutter" which is a badass full buff 22" setup.

I have always been a big fan of mowhawks.But lately the razorbacks(21x7x10) have been the best for me steering wise. Alot of people make the mistake of having the ribs/blades pointed outward, if they are mounted correctly the steering is way more responsive then any other tire out there in my opinion.

Duro Sandmaster, 80 bucks on rockymountainatvmc.com. Got um on 2 bikes, no problems and work great for the price
