Figured I would post some pics of my 250R. Have owned this since 2005 and has under went a lot of changes over the years. This current rebuild started back in 2011. (last time i rode my 250R was Labor Day 2011.) Started by ordering a new 250R no link frame from lonestar at the end of 2011. Since I have had so much time, some of the items have changed. (Wish I just would have put the damn thing together right away.) Highlights are LSR no link frame, +4+1 Laeger a-arms, rear LSR DC-4 swing arm, Motowoz shocks, GBC tires, DWT beadlocks, and a bunch of titanium bolts. Below are a few pics of how it sits today. This is sand dune trim, (just need sand tires mounted of course.) the silver plastics and carbon fiber stuff is to pretty to get dirty out in the desert. I have a IMS 4 gallon tank and white plastics that will put it back into desert trim. Not quite ready to ride, but close, I just and to see what it looked like with the silver plastics and carbon fiber stuff!

Here is the build thread I started three years ago on atvriders:

The above link even has a post to some older photos of it. I have spent way to much money on this damn thing!
(Sorry for all the links. No way I want to repost all that stuff!)

Looks awesome! Very clean, love the blue.

That looks great!

It looks great. How wide is it with the +4s?
-
Of course the bumper is the best feature. haha. She's lookin good. It's too bad the intake is such a p.i.a. She looks like she's going to be a fun ride.

51" from sidewall of tire to sidewall of tire. That is with me siting on the quad.

Figured you would like the bumper! haha I thought it turned out pretty good, thanks for coming up with the idea.
That is my biggest complaint with this thing, not happy with the intake setup at all. Guess it will work for now, but eventually I would like to come up with something different.

I won't be satisfied till I see her with a big tank tho. haha.

So after three and a half years, I finally got to ride this thing! Took it out about two weeks ago for a short ride. Just wanted to break it in and shake it down a little. Engine had a pretty bad bog right off idle, so I only burned a little over half a tank of gas then called it quits. Took it home and made some changes, dropped the pilot down one size and made seem adjustments to the suspension. Took it out last weekend and the thing ran great. (For a while anyway, more on that in a bit.) Bog was pretty much gone, could probably use to go down one more size on the pilot, but since it is winter, will probably wait to do that till we get seem warmer weather. I forgot how much fun a two stroke is to ride! Suspension worked great, loved the no link rear, but still have a little tweaking to do to get it perfect.
Now for the bad part. Burned up a tank of fuel and headed back to the truck to refill and take a little break. Filled the tank up, quad set for about 10 minutes, then decided it was time for another ride. Quad was a no start, kicked until my leg felt like it was going to fall off and not even a hint of firing. I have a 2001 CR250 ignition on this thing, and I have found my 250R rarely kicks back since I installed this ignition. Well, this thing was kicking back like a mother the entire time I was trying to get it started. I am guessing something failed in the ignition. (Years ago I had a stator fail while running the oem ignition and it did the same thing, kicking back like crazy.) Loaded the quad up and headed home, will probably be a couple of weeks before I can dig into it to see what the problem is. Oh well, was great to ride my 250R again though! For sure need to get it running again quickly, had to much fun riding it!
Below are the only pics I took while riding. I meant to grab my GoPro and get some footage, but forgot it, hopefully next ride.

Thanks man. Saw your post over on atv riders, figured I would just respond here. Air box and intake worked fine. I just don't like the way the back half of the air box is gone. One good silt bed, and the filter would be caked.
This Saturday is the Parker 250. While I was riding my 250R, I couldn't help but wish I had some more time to dial it in, I would seriously be racing it next weekend! Oh well, guess my TRX700XX will get the nod. But Parker 2016, there will probably be a 250r racing!

Nice to see you got the chance to ride. Even if it was a short ride. Good luck in the race. Break out the 4 stroke faithful!!!!!!! :applouse:

I'd like to see some pics of your intake. How did you end up clearing the shock. What boot?

If you look at page 4 of my thread over on ATV Riders, I have a couple pics of the intake. The Pro Tect airbox is designed to use the oem boot, it comes with a piece of metal tubing and hose so you can get to the carb. The only difference between then and now is I had to move the box back a couple of inches, so the piece of tubing is a bit longer. I had to move it back because if I didn't the shock would have rubbed on the boot. Of course, moving it back meant I was going to have issues with the caliper and swingarm hitting the airbox. As I said, it works, but not really happy with it. One of these days I plan on having a fab shop build me a custom setup, but that will probably be a while down the road.

Just looked through my thread over at ATV Riders, page 6 has pics of the current intake setup. Took those after I had the fab shop work on the box.

I too wasn't very impressed with the Pro-Tect airbox.
The intake boot had to be trimmed to fit in between the airbox flange and the top plate, and there's very little clearance on the filter flange at the bottom of the box. My filter fell off because it never was on all the way.

Okay, it's been a couple weeks. Did you figure out what the problem was with the ignition?
-
just a couple lol

Unfortunately, no. I haven't really had much time to mess with quads this entire year. I played around with it some a few months ago. All electrical checked out good. Started it and it ran for 5 seconds, shut off, and wouldn't re-fire. I was planning to race a night race on it this summer, so I pulled the CR ignition off and reinstalled the stock stuff so I could have lights, but I haven't had the time to completely install the stock ignition, so I have no idea if that will fix my problem. It's sad I own five quads and only one is ride able right now, and I can't even find the time to ride that one. I just need to find a way to put more days in the week so I have the time to work on quads. Didn't even have time to race a night race this year. First time in 10 years I didn't race at least one. :blue:

Doug sounds like maybe the trigger went out on that ignition, I had a few bad ones that those were the problem.

Thanks, will check out the trigger. i am sure it is ignition related, just have to figure out what it is, trigger gives a place to start.
I won't be satisfied till I see her with a big tank tho. haha.
You will be happy to hear I did get the oversize tank fitted up when I was checking out the ignition. At least it looks more like a desert quad!

Click, click, click. That's the sound of the camera taking pictures.haha

Right now all the plastics and tank are off it as I was swapping ignitions. Once I get it back together, I will for sure get some pictures.

They look better naked.

Well, only took 11 months, but it runs, ended up being the CR ignition. Put the OEM ignition back on and fired right up. The batteries in my meter were dead, so couldn't check the ohm readings of the CR ignition, but looks like the stator/flywheel is all one part number anyway, so can't just replace one piece. Not happy, since it is just over $300 for a new stator/flywheel assembly. Really makes me mad that I have less then a dozen rides on that ignition. May just say screw it and keep the OEM ignition, it has only let me down once in the 10 years I have owned it, and that was actually the Ricky Stator stator.
Oh well, took a few pics after I rode it around the block a few times. Hopefully I can get it out in the desert here in the next few weeks.

Figure it is time for an update. Unfortunately, quad has pretty much sat. Has maybe been ridden three times since the last post in this thread. Runs great, just life has been getting in the way of riding. My plan was to race all the local night races on it over the summer, so about two months ago I decided to see how the light mount would fit on the LSR frame. (It was intended for a OEM frame.) I got it to fit, but it was a pain, had to use a ratchet strap to pull it into position. Also mounted up the white plastics, since the fronts are already cut for the light mount, and picked up a Quad Tech desert seat.
I already missed the first night race, and due to other stuff going on, doesn't look like I will make any of them. Still have to run the wiring, but figured I would at least get a couple of pics of the lights on the quad. Sorry for the lousy pics, to lazy to move stuff around to push it outside.
