Title: CR500 Motor Recommendations
Post by: big specht on September 04, 2014, 11:10:57 PM
I'm looking to build a cr500 for a pulling bike I'm looking for info on where to get parts or who is good with these 500 motors if I'm going to spend the money I don't to blow it on any rum dumb with a grinder. I'm looking for a drag pipe for it too. I'm probley going to use the cr500 frame and make it a 3 wheeler.

Try LED Performance. They are doing custom pipes and Arlan is a magician with porting. I was looking at one of my old cylinders. He ported it in 2001. The serial number was over 1900. That means in 2001 he had almost 2000 ported cylinders under under his belt. I'm not sure what he is up to now.

Anyways, check them out, definitely worth a call

Best regards
-Jason

I would suggest you build a CP Industries Liger cylinder you can get them in 94,97 and 102.5 bores
my 97bore x 83stroke dynoed 110 at the rear wheels on methanol

I'm not sure if I want to go with the liger jug cause I know what this will make a great big snow ball that going to require a lot more parts to hold and use the full potential of power those parts can make BUT DAMN it would be fun to ride lol. Thanks for the info so far I just need to sh%t or get off the pot on this project

One name for cr500..glen howell at gss raceporting..he's doing a full port race cyl for my cr500af now. Nobody comes close to Glen on cr500 work. Be prepared for a long wait, he is really popular with the guys in the know.. could be several months till he gets to your cylinder but well worth the wait!

IIRC, 89-92 cr500 had a closer ratio transmission than the previous and later models. I prefer the wider ratio, but I'm not pulling on a trike either. The close ratio of the 89 might be better suited for that than the wider ratio trans.
If I get time I'll look up what years had what ratios for sure. Or you can check Google or cr500 riders forum

Talk to Roosty over cr500riders.com. He'll point you in the right direction(be sure to post first in the intro section). Roosty should be able to fix you up. If nothing else you can check out some reports on GSS and make up your own mind. My cr500 is a bike. It really doesn't need any more power(it makes enough for me and I'm used to riding liter bikes on the street). BTW 86 parts are harder to find.

BTW mine is a 85. Honda did mellow the cr's over the years. I've thought about doing an af conversion with my other 85 motor, but I really like riding the steely, drum rear brake and all LOL.

Just google Chris Mills. The pics he posted were fake. He is an internet scammer. Rich boy lying his way through life. Has burned many people and we don't screw our members over. The new guys need to know this guy is the wrong way to go. He is not welcome here as he has stolen pics from members here claiming they are his own. Put it this way. He is a virus and should be avoided at all costs!

At first I was like :smug:  but now I'm :confusion:

Rsss96 that liger looks healthy!!  And your signature is quite refreshing compared to tos

Still say you want 500cc go zilla motor.  Next would be cp industries, but your putting that on weaker, compared to zilla, trans and cases.  Not to mention more $$$$ Just mo

Most cr500 guys(and others too) have seen that build pic FOR YEARS NOW, but I can't think of anyone that's seen it finished(not to mention run). It's like a unicorn LOL. BTW this guy is an alleged thieving scumbag by ALL the reports I've seen/read on numerous sites. That post above by Tbone, if true(and I'm not saying it's not), shows what a real class act he is.
