Title: help figure out what needle I have
Post by: dirtyd on September 21, 2014, 10:31:10 PM
I have a Keihin 38mm A/S quadvent and I want to try out some leaner needles but I don't know what I have to start with. I looked at the stuff posted in the "jetting data base" thread to figure out the 3 letter conversion. But the numbers on my needle are not like whats on the pages. Here is what is marked on my needle (A715 289R A327 A487)

Those numbers are not numbers you will find on the Keihin after market needles.  I think you have a needle that is an OEM number.  I do not have a way of cross-referencing the numbers with the needles whose dimensions are published.

In a situation like this I would carefully measure the needled and then compare the dimensions to those that are published so that you have a reference point to work from

thanks Jerry. I googled that number and got some threads from other forums and it looks to be OEM 2000 CR250 needle

Just for reference I have a DGJ in mine. I ran that needle with a stock cylinder and my 300 cylinder so it should be a fairly safe starting needle for you, I'm in IN so weather ect. should be similar. From what I read that is some weird triple taper needle from a CR250 so I'm guessing that is why it has all of those funny numbers.
