Title: My sand dune video little Sahara Oklahoma
Post by: Grande huevos on October 21, 2014, 06:31:28 PM
Here's the video I made of some friends and I riding the dunes in Oklahoma. I had a lot of issues making this thing and even lost some of my clips and transactions, but I think it still turned out alright. Video was shot with go pro hero 2s and 3s. Hope you enjoy. Please let me know if it actually works

Is that Kermit? I have been riding the Oregon dunes for years, and love it. But I am moving to Austin very soon and I don't think Texas offers much in the way of sand dunes.

Best regards

Its no glamis and lacks the beauty of ocean/pine trees/etc of the coastal oregon dunes, but Kermit can be pretty fun.  its somewhere around 5-6000 acres, if you stay on the northwest side its free, but its just you and the dunes, no amenities.  Waynoka is pretty fun time too.  there are supposedly some dunes in the corpus christi/south padre / area, but have found any solid info and i think maybe now closed.

in the austin ish area, I hear great things about Marble falls for trail riding.

2ndmoto   Ive never been to Kermit dunes but i hear theyre prety nice. It will probably be about 4-5 hour drive from austin and about 4 hours from el paso.

atvmxr   Yes i live right outside of the el paso city limits called Horizon. Its all desert but there are some small dunes 10 minutes north of my house and the main dunes 15 minutes west.

Grande huevos   Didnt mean to sound like a dick my first post im all about riding with a group of people its just that my quad and I have been hurt because of people doing dumb things. Nice video though.

Yeah we had a blast !! I would ride the dunes everyday if I could!  It was pretty neat too because a couple of my friends and I from ks were at the dunes 2 years ago and we got to talking with some other guys with 250rs who were from Colorado and Nebraska, and it just so happens they are fellow forum members too. A year later we all planned out trips for the same weekend and ended up having a pretty nice sized group to ride with!

I'm glad you guys like the video it's my first time playing with the editing process so I'm far from pro.  I plan on throwing some more together in the future.

Where do you ride? It looks Austin is pretty dry for riding. Was checking craigslist and there are very few sport ATVs for sale. MX, trail, off road...?

Hope he didn't get hurt at all but that guy tomahawking after the jump was quite comical.  Crazy riding is the most fun, can't be too afraid to get hurt as long as you don't hurt someone else!

Googling Ronnie mac didn't fully explain it but those videos were hilarious .  I just googled squid - I grew up pretty country so it describes a lot of my family's traits.  I think my dad taught me how to shoot while holding a beer in the other hand.

Yeah luckily he didn't get hurt! Not sure how but he got right back on and kept riding without any aches or pains..... Although he does wear a helmet now and bought a. 250r so he can have some suspension lol

squid is used more by the street bike guys. A squid in the dunes to me are those people that wear full motocross gear (look like a pro racer) but dont know one thing about riding; but they think they do. The guys that are always in the wrong gear, redlining and hauling ass inbetween parked trucks, not looking out when turning, always in the way of drag races going on. We have a lot of those here in EP. Damn kids dont know anything about off-roading they just come out to drink and litter and endanger everyone else.

I knew exactly what a squid was thank you.  I've seen a couple of them turn into a squash(a vegetable basically). Some didn't make it, plus I had quit having respect for my bike and was out riding to fast constantly. That's why I got out of streetbikes for awhile(back riding them again). I'll agree with a lot of those things, but never understood why people tend to wear less safety gear at the dunes, espec with all the rails and utv's out cruising the dunes.  90% of the time when I see squids, they are either on streetbikes or quads. Not so many on dirt bikes anymore, but they are out there.

We called them posers. I feel weird just jumping my bike and riding to the bathroom from my camp without a helmet
