This project is starting from my last project: younger woman build. Now that the racing season is over and I finally had some money to do some things that I really wanted to, it's time to flip the switch to BEAST MODE. With the help of Eddie @ Eddie Sanders Racing and Neil @ Cleigh Racing, I will be moving up to a meaner, more aggressive motor. This, hopefully, will also translate into more wins at the mx track. I want to say a big shout out to EDDIE and NEIL for working with me on this! Top notch fellas.
Here is what is going to happen.
Starting Point:
ESR 310cc power valve
TRX 9 porting by Eddie
HotRods standard crank
ESR TRX 5 Pipe and Silencer, also used a Sparks MX pipe and silencer
Generic aftermarket aluminum radiator
Vforce 3 reed cage
BEAST MODE:
New ESR 350cc Stroker motor (363)
Low to Midrange porting by Neil
New HotRods +4mm Stroker Crank
New Custom Cut Race fuel dome
New ESR TRX 5B Pipe and Silencer(anodized)
New CBR oversize radiator
Rad valve w/ new carbon fiber reeds
Complete bottom end overhaul
I will also being adding a few extra goodies here and there as we go. Below is a pic of some of the goodies I got in from Eddie on Monday. Right now, Neil has the cylinder prepping and porting the cylinder. More to come!

Nice!
I bet Jesse is working on a "Beast mode" meme right weow! lol
-
Going to a 350 you will wonder why you did not do this before. Its just MEAN as talking Tom would say. Brute strength down low will be most surprising!
-
Sweet!!
You will love this ryan. Big change from a 310.

See the roost, BRAPPPPPPPP BRAPPPPP see ya 4 pokers, grunt & go baby.

LOL!! You would be the one to know, since you ported it!
-
You just wait, all anybody has to say to me, they want to kill a 4 poker & I'll bust a gut trying to make it do it. Course thats what I been doing all along all these years, but I'm just saying it now.
Remember, dont show all your cards at first, like Kenny Rogers, wait till the money comes out, then put the smack on them.
Neil
-
you got to know when to hold em........
You're gonna love the 350/363. Mine doesn't have the stroker and I still love the low-end power

I agree 100%. That's why I didn't tell any of the guys I race with what I am doing. And keeping it off of facebook as well. And being that I was already running an ESR cylinder, most of them will never even notice the difference. The only difference from the outside will be that the power valve is gone. But none of them will notice that. The real excitement will be when I come shooting out the gate like my rear end is on fire! LOL
-
Make sure you do a plug chop with the smart carb. Burns had to make the change to the metering rod. Mine just fried the piston. You don't want to be too lean breaking in the 363

You will be surprised at how nice that billet shifter and brake lever feel. It really does make a difference from stock, no flex, better more accurate shifting and brake control!

That billet kicker did take alot of play out of the kicker assembly as well. It does wiggle freely any more.

What type of riding were you doing the last 15 seconds or so before the piston failure? Show us the top and all sides of the piston.
Please leave this out of my thread. If you guys wanna talk about it , please make a new thread.

rablack,
I have an ESR pipe on my 87, do you find that it doesn't fit very well? Mine fits poorly, and it seems like some minor changes in their design would have aleviated that. Just curious.
-
I had a TRX5 pipe on before the tear down. Actually, I thought it fit quite well. Granted, I didn't like that the silencer didn't use exhaust hangers. But other than thant, I thought it fit fairly well. And it was much easier to install and remove than the Sparks mx pipe I had on previously.
-
Weird. This one is a TRX5 as well; definitely fits like crap. The head pipe isn't "straight" on the exhaust manifold, and the first bend in the pipe lays against the frame gusset on the inside of the bend (as in the pipe needs to sit a half inch further forward than it does). I've dinked around with it for several hours, and it just is what it is. The main issue is the position of the first bend from the head pipe into the expansion chamber, I'll get a picture when I'm back home again. I've always been a die-hard DynoPort fan, I know the owner and he is completely obsessive compulsive with his pipes; so I'm a little biased I suppose.
-
Yes, gets some pics and start up a thread and we'll talk it through. I use the front exhaust hanger and torsioning the pipe at different angles to get the fit that I want. But I was able to position the pipe so it wouldn't hit or lay against the frame.
-
Alright will do, I have to get it put back together first; in the process of doing the clutch. Some close up pictures of yours might help as well so we can compare.
-
Got my cylinder back! This piston is noticeably larger than stock. This porting is ridiculous! And when I say ridiculous, I mean amazing! Thanks Neil, you did a great job! I'm impressed.(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_3935_2017-04-18_7054.jpg) (http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_3924_2017-04-18_2013.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_3925_2017-04-18_3384.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_3926_2017-04-18_6238.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_3927_2017-04-18_7503.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_3928_2017-04-18_941.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_3929_2017-04-18_7049.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_3930_2017-04-18_709.jpg)

tador as stated in chat after you use the correct oem type center section mount you will be all good. No problems with these pipes.
-
Looks like the fun is about to begin ryan. You will love that bb stroker.
-
That's one fancy work bench. The cylinder looks great, and I really like the new style heads.
-
Piston box says 72mm. What happened to the 350 beast? Should say 78mm
-
That was the old stock piston box. Look at the size of the piston in the pic. That's a 350 piston. I was comparing the size difference of the two last night, just to get a physical idea of how big the big bore was. It may be hard to tell, but Neil's porting is as smooth as can be. It's almost a razor's edge on the bottom transfer ports. Not sure if he did it or it came from ESR that way, but the front exhaust port is almost smooth like glass.
-
Oh man... engine porn... what a nice way to start the morning.

You saying like the bottom edge of the sleeve is razor ?. Normally I'll use the a flapper wheel to smooth the bore side of the sleeve & kinda touch that edge with it while I'm doing that, just didnt hit that edge as much.
That casting was the ruffest casting inside I've ever got from ESR, like maybe the casting molds wasnt smoothed out as much. I had to carve out more than normal on the porting just to get the aluminum as smoothed & angled as it is.
The exhaust didnt turn out like normal either. I like them to be completely chrome, but it just wouldnt smooth out. Put like 7~8 hours just in the exhaust area, but hey, its cause I love a 2 stroke & want it to show.

Ok so maybe not a razor edge, but it is very pointed and distinguished. I am very happy with the port work. It looked very good to me.
-
I have a diamond stone I'll sometimes smooth that out with, same one I use for the port champhers. The idea for beveling the inner edge of the sleeve, is so you wont have any trouble with the rings when sliding the cylinder on. Some bore shops dont touch that area & you have to be careful to keep the rings from snagging. I dont leave it pointed to do anything, just how it turns out from beveling that inner sleeve wall. Now I do stagger that sleeve edge, to kinda make it easier for the flow to go into the main transfer more.
Neil

I can contest, to Neil's work. It is art! Enjoy the ride Ryan!

I was actually referring to the outer sleeve edge going into the main transfer. The bevel on the inner sleeve is normal to what I have always seen.

Here ya go, Tony. Just for you! This is what is going on in the ogre's lair.

Update: 1/9/15
I ran into a factory design failure with my Hot Rods crank, so I have to tear the engine back down again to either put another crank in or notch the cases. So engine is on hold at the moment.
I got some new goodies in from ESR today! Got a stator cover, some gaskets and factory bolts, and a new ESR reed cage with carbon fiber reeds. Real excited to try out that reed cage!
Also had to do some work on my LSR axle. The aluminum sprocket hub spline were wore out and it had some play in it. So I had a new sprocket hub pressed on.

Finally making some progress. Got the engine all buttoned up. Ran a pressure test. Everything good to go. Got the engine installed in the frame and bolted down. Got the stator and flywheel back on. Got the Smart Carb hooked up and ready to go. New silicone hoses installed. Rear end back together. Still got a little more work to do, but it won't be long now. Almost time to fire up the beast!(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_4415_2017-04-18_9298.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_4416_2017-04-18_5398.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_4417_2017-04-18_5904.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_4418_2017-04-18_3479.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_4419_2017-04-18_7366.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_4420_2017-04-18_8043.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/100_4421_2017-04-18_1981.jpg)

Where are you setting the clicker for break in? Scary stuff right here!!!
-
She's got a nice ring ting ting to her. Sounds nice and crisp.
-
Doesn't that sound, make you just grin so big?
-
Where are you setting the clicker for break in? Scary stuff right here!!!
Lol. That clicker setting doesn't scare me. I set it at 38 clicks from full rich, which is 3.855 on the rod length. It is a bit rich on the idle but I'll adjust it once it's broke in.
-
Doesn't that sound, make you just grin so big?
You are exactly right! Next bigger grin will be mash that throttle for the first time.
-
Sounds damn good....I like how good the hoses and stator cover match the frame. I am also digging those nerf bars alot!
-
Sounds really good Ryan! Do you have a CR ignition on there?
-
Sounds really good Ryan! Do you have a CR ignition on there?
Affirmative. No flywheel weight at the moment. Gonna try it without and with. decide what I like.
-
Sounds damn good....I like how good the hoses and stator cover match the frame. I am also digging those nerf bars alot!
Thanks. I'm liking the black accent, but I need a graphics kit pretty bad. I'm gonna try to get one this year. Those are the best nerfs I've ever had. Never even came close to missing the peg or boot slippage.
-
Ryan is that a new billet clutch? I noticed you didn't have a beveled drive gear on your motor and was wondering if it hit the basket. If not, what brand of basket is it?
-
Ryan is that a new billet clutch? I noticed you didn't have a beveled drive gear on your motor and was wondering if it hit the basket. If not, what brand of basket is it?
Not a new one, but yes it's aftermarket. It's a Hinson. No, it doesn't hit the basket. If my memory serves me, I believe it was only the thick gear that needed to be beveled. The thin gear doesn't have to be.
