Title: Glamis
Post by: rjt500r on November 22, 2014, 10:29:25 AM
Looking for some advice for a first time trip to Glamis. The wife and I are heading to Lake Havasu City in December to visit family and up grade our toyhauler. We are planning a couple of days at Glamis, we will be pulling a 39' fifth wheel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on which camp area we should go to, I'm a little concerned about the size of my trailer, and be able to get to the popular spots. Coming from Oregon looking forward to our first visit to Glamis.

lol the size of your trailer???    I have seen 100' long double stackers in there before,,  its a totally different world down here nothing like what your use to,,, just go to vendors row at the glamis beach store,,  acres of parking

Yeah, Yeah I admit the trailer statement was pretty dumb!! But I my own defense I did say I've never been there before. We have like trees and shit we have to navigate around in our camp areas.:fighting0082:

We made the trip twice between 08 & 09 & parked where KASEY is talking about. We had a freightliner fl70 with a 38' toyhauler & a huge volvo coach with a stacker trailer. The coach & trailer was around 100' long. Parking these two behemoths was no problem in that camp site. It's a huge hard pack area & it's flat as glass. One thing about glamis is it's dusty so be prepared for that. It's definitely worth the 22 hour drive.

As long as you do not go on the big holiday moving that behemoth should not be an issue! Now the dust issue broken1 is talking about is from parking on the wash road or washes parking site. But there are also parking areas on Gecko Rd, Glamis flats both which have no dust issues unless it it windy then all bets are off:) Personally I park on Glamis flats or close to vendor row, no dust and parking always available and accessible, and most important no dust. You will have fun out there enjoy your time out there and do not forget to buy weekly or monthly passes to be out there, and passes are sold thru vendors out there.

Was out there last weekend.  Got to ride deep in some of the new open area that used to be closed until this year. Found some incredible duning out there.  Make sure you visit The Wall about 1.5 mikes south of china wall.  The Wall is softer and steeper than china wall.

Unfortunately we are leaving today, we got to see only a small portion of whats here and it is awesome. We are planning another trip with our Oregon group for at least a week. Anyone who is on the fence about a long drive to get here, do it, it's worth the drive. I'll post some pics when we get home and settled in.

That is what I am looking forward to. "The Wall"  We are gonna stay deep in the washes so should just head west I guess. Will need to put it in the GPS before the trip. How was the weather/wind?

Got a good ride to the wall in Friday am, then a little rain/wind after 2pm Friday but not bad.  Saturday was sunny and clear excellent - had a 6.5 hour ride into all the new opened area - over 65 miles RT.  We went 1/2 way down to Patton valley, about 9 miles south of china wall.  Had lunch.  Chilled. Found some cool hills including a steep soft hill with a giant 30' deep witches eye you drop into to go up the hill.  Everyone Brought extra fuel and needed it.

Thanks rjt. Where did you end up camping? Which Bike was the most fun? Did you have any issues with Rangers or registration or anything?

We camped over at Pad 2. Both bikes are a blast to ride, but i do ride the 500 the most . Never even saw the rangers, or really anyone else, there were a lot of others camped there but never saw anyone while were on the sand. It was like we had the place to ourselves. They were out there but always far enough away we never crossed paths. The registration was another story, the Glamis store did not carry the passes and told us the vendors did not either and that we had to go to Brawley to get a pass. A link was posted here to purchase them online and next time thats how i will buy the pass.

It's cool that you got to enjoy Glamis for the dunes. On big weekends it's a spectacle that's enjoyed in a different way.

Had a great time New Years in Glamis. The new suspension kicked ass. Seen a couple of 250r's. Seen a black and green one at the drags Friday. Aj (portedr) says he is a member here.

What I didn't see though was any damn BDT bikes.
